I am going to have my front bumper cover painted. I have a friend who will do it however I'll save a bunch of money if I bring him just the bumper cover. I THINK there are a bunch of 8mm and 10mm bolts holding it on. Anything else I should know ? The rockchips are getting to me.

Most likely, it is just a bunch of fasteners on the perimeter. I could be wrong...take out what you can see and pull....then you'll know. They aren't really hard.

I took off the RX7 and another...and it was pretty straight forward.

Sorry, not much help other than mental support...

I'll take a look at my FSM when I get back home

You might be better off painting it on the car rather then risking scratching it putting it back on.

From my experience...this is the best way to do it.....take out everything and paint it all while on the saw horses.

When it is on the car there is a lot of masking etc......and usually there is a top part that you can hang it while reinstalling it....then you just start replacing nuts or screws whichever the case may be...

simple...

I've pulled mine off (well I took it off with the turn signals and fiberglass inside) and it was easy. Just a million bolts across the top and down each fender. Make sure you note how many shims in the front so you align it when you put it back on.

No big deal at all, 7 & 10 mm screws and a lot of them. All the way across the top, down the sides and across the bottom. Takes maybe 1/2 hour to remove, maybe a bit more to re-install. If the front park/turn signals need anything now is the time to do it.

An 8mm ratcheting box wrench saved me a lot of time the second time I removed mine. Clearance issue between hood and bumper. The 7mm ones at either end do not need removed. They are not attatched to the impact bar bracket. 7mm, 8mm and T30 took care of all the fasteners on my '91. Couple pics might help.

I stand corrected, the later C4 must have used different sized screws. The 7 & 10 mm. I referred to were on my '85.
Sorry for any confusion.

As a precaution, run some blue painter's tape across the front of the hood. It's very easy to gouge the hood while removing those bolts across the top.

The trickiest part really, is popping the top edge up and over the bracket it bolts to without flexing the bumper too much. After you pop the top flange up and over, and have the other bolts loose, the whole bumper sort of rotates nose down and then is easy to get loose. During reinstall, it's possible to crack the new paint at the top corners while flexing it into place.
