http://www.theage.com.au/technology/t ... 016-h02h.html?autostart=1
Naked airport scanners in child porn uproar By Asher Moses The Age 2009.10.16 Manchester Airport has been forced to rethink trials of its invasive new X-ray machine after claims the "naked" images of airline passengers could violate child pornography laws. This week, the airport began a year-long trial of the full-body scanner, which can instantly detect any hidden weapons or explosives without passengers having to remove any of their clothing - such as shoes and belts - for a search. It effectively does away with the need to frisk passengers and is expected to speed up the security process at airports, but the cost of that is passengers are starkly naked in front of security staff. Genital outlines are clearly visible on the screen.
|

Well, if the security lady gave you two thumbs up as you walked through, it would probably make your day.

Typical puritanical thinking of the average American. You either have one the other or both. What's the big deal? Maybe the complainers should go through the strip and cavity search in private. Ya, that would be much less invasive.
By the way Brian, that's -2 points for showing that image on Hot Chick Friday. |

Superman would be proud.
I can't wait until they install these in all public places. Better yet, we should just all walk around naked so nobody has to fear anyone hiding anything. |

"Manchester Airport initially argued that its scanner was lawful and exempt from the child pornography laws because it was used for the prevention and detection of crime. ARCH said a good reason was required to qualify for this exemption."
Sounds familiar. Yeah, we're invading your rights, but it's for your own good! "Under the circumstances of [DHS security] checkpoint stops, which do not involve searches, the Government or public interest in making such stops outweighs the constitutionally protected interest of the private citizen." |

They could hook them up to large screen TVs in the waiting areas at the gates. Then maybe give us interactive 'scorers' to rate the scanees. ??????

My poor vision puts on a pretty good scan without x-rays but I'm fairly picky about who I scan. Female scans only ... of course.
