Saw this in the Summit catalog. Is it worth $15? Better to go to HD and pick up three feet of standard chain?

Don't forget to add shipping costs. I make all my own hoist chains. Not only does it save me money but I get to pick and choose the length, size, and chain ends.

I agree a couple of eye bolts and clevis's and you can make your own with adjustable length

Me to, big time saver. Matt, the only thing with the Summit chain is that, if you guess the angle wrong, you have to sit the engine back down and have the chain totally loose to move a link and change the angle. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with it. If you decide to go to HD, take a 5/16 bolt with you and make sure the hole in the links are large enough for the bolt. A standard piece of chain will work just fine with bolts and large washers. |

I pulled my engine last week and got some chain at Harbor Freight. It was $2 per foot (three needed) and heavier chain.

Mat, a chain like that is fine when you are working on a Tri 5 Chev and you have room to push Rosie O'donnell through. The only way I suggest doing it in the Vette is with a load leveler. You don't have to pitch much in a C4, but an inch or two helps make things easier.

Thanks, guys, I'll stop by Pep Boys when I'm ready for my project and pick up a load leveler.

I thought of getting one too but decided not to, since the rebuild bill is high. I had zero trouble without one.

Or, if you happen to have your boat/trailer backed into the driveway such that the bow pulpit just happens to be right next to where you're hoisting your engine, you can also use your anchor rode chain...
