And I suspect most of you are ready to say good riddance.

We here in LA are enjoying some of the most lovely weather you could ask for... sorry... it's just the way the high pressure bounces, I guess.

It will make for a nice Rose Bowl tonight.

Gang, all of you dealing ok? Supplies coming in? No loss of utilities?

I don't remember a cold spell like this in a LONG time. It's absolutely brutal. Even my brother's area (Sebring) is expecting a chance of snow!!!!!!

QX: Tommy - thanks for the links! However, in days of old, I remember that in SoFla that over half the houses were without heat. I suspect that number has dropped as A/C units are replaced with heat pumps, but has it? Is it an issue still?

Thanks Andy I'll be thinking of beautiful Cal. as I watch the Rose Bowl.. Tonight's low is 4 with 4-8 inches of system snow followed by 4-6 inches lake effect snow for Friday. Lost power last night for 4 hours. We have a back up generator that will power everything. In South Bend we are use to snow and lake effect, but I have not seen this persistent cold and nonstop snow in a long time.

Personally, I love it. In general, winters are much milder than when I was a kid, and the snowstorms like today are the few times that I don't mind that I drive an obnoxious truck most of the time that gets 12.4 MPG and can't be parked in a normal parking spot.

Looking at this monster on Saturday:

http://www.dickscottmotormall.net/new ... 00001016c6b0882ad6893.htm

Go Diesel or go home, baby!

And we already had the Rose Bowl, and THE Ohio State University powned the heavily favored Ducks.

Tonight's game at the Rose Bowl should be a good one, though.

Severe clear in the heartlands with a -30 wind chill. Schools called off and everyone is hunkered down and not happy. Everyone complains about the weather but no body does anything about it. I was going to start my work on the Vette but it is to cold in the shop to have any fun. Go Tide! (We hate Texas here in Neb.)

I agree about winter. Ran my car last night, was kind of sad to just let it run in the garage, but the poor thing couldn't stand a chance in the snow around here.
I am an old guy, and yep, winters have been milder, but the last 2 years seem to be making up for lost time. Last year was a brutally long winter. I don't mind winter so much in January and February, but when it drags on, I get sick of it. Let's hope we get our shot of winter, and by mid March, things moderate.
And I agree, the Rose Bowl was played on the first! Go Buckeyes. A little bit of redemption for the Buckeyes and the Big Ten!

O-H I-O!

This winter does suck. Fortunately, all I'm bitchin' about is a lack of sunshine. Crappy today, kinda foggy but sunshine and hi 40s to low 50s the rest of the week.

Yup. Gotta go there. I still think that the Huskers are on their way back... and will reshape the Big 12 in their mold, like things used to be.

However... -30 wind chill is COLD. That's just too damned cold. I can see why everyone is inside.

Ocean affect.

The cold also hasn't quite gotten that far east.

We are looking at mid 20's tonight. Highs tomorrow mid 30's. I don't mind it, everyone complains around here if we have a week of cold air. I feel for you northern guys. At least our cold snaps don't last long.
