Tata Motors has unveiled the world's cheapest motor car at India's biggest car show in the capital, Delhi.

Resized Image

The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees or $2,500 (£1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels.

The four-door five-seater car, which goes on sale later this year, has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear.

It has no air conditioning, no electric windows and no power steering, but two deluxe models will be on offer.

Whats this world coming to??????

Two deluxe models will be available?
One has seats and the other a radio?

I don't think I'd trust driving in that on the sidewalk. Sort of like a closed in golf cart.

Shows you what inflation has done over the years.
That is still more than I paid for my very first car brand new off the showroom floor in 1970. It didn't have power windows either, but it did have a/c

I bought my Amigo for $2500. 300,000 miles on the chassis, but under 10k on the new engine. It's in GREAT shape! Looks like it has about 50k miles on it, overall.
I would much rather drive this than that little tin can, but I bet the Nano is the right product for their market though. My guess is that if they don't all fall apart in a couple weeks, they will sell like hotcakes.

I can't imagine they would be legal for export to the U.S. though. There's LOTS of people in India though...

Forgot to mention that I worked with a guy about 20 years ago that used Tata as a slang word for a woman's breast. As in "Bodacious Tatas!"

So, this would be a small tit?

Jesus H. Christ, that thing is beyond fugly. If they ever import it here though, it'll be popular with the same crowd that buys VW beetles, Scion XBs and other such ghey vehicles.

I don't see how it will help a developing nation... they can't rub 2 nickels together, let alone cough up $2500.00.

It's also a city car. It would not last 10 minutes on a modern American or European super highway.

I think I'd feel safer on my motorcycle! I find it amazing that someone would chose that new POS over something used that allows you to fit your arms AND legs inside the vehicle at the same time.

If I had some money to throw around, I'd get one of those and slap a sizeable motorcycle engine in it.
