The tap you need will be in the next sized kit.

when you finally find a store that sell individual taps in the size that you need, they will be out of stock.

well at least I picked up the hacksaw I needed.

Same rule applies for bolts, nuts, screws, etc, etc. As huge as a HomeDepot inventory is they always seem to be out of the one thing I need.

So you can cut the hole out and not worry about tapping it at all?

Gotta disagree, Andy. Home D's inventory sucks, it sucks, it sucks.
They will sell you a 7/16ths nut, but don't have one 7/16th bolt in the store.
Their specialty selection is a joke.

Lowe's new speciality selection is only half a joke.

We had a Supply One here that had 100x the stuff HD has.

They do have a good inventory of wood though.

I like old mom and pop hardware stores. The longer they've been around the more hard to find stuff they have. Either that or ask BillH. He probably has two or three out in his garage.

Bill,
Don't forget HDs headquarters is Atlanta. The stores here are likely better stocked since HDQ brass probably shop in them too. I must have at least 10 clerks offering to help me everytime I walk in. Oddly though I like Lowes better.

I thought you broke a tap.. For me it breaks on the last turn of the thread. You're better off buying from MSC with taps.. much better than most the stuff you find in the hardware stores

Yes, he has a detailed storage and inventory system. If you ask him, I'm sure he'll be happy to look for you:

That's quite possible, keep the brass happy.

The supply One that was here was probably run out of business by Lowes & HD.
They did have an amazing hardware section. They had things like a section for socket head cap screws that was about 10 feet long, 6 ft. high shelves with drawers full of every size, std. & metric. HD has one foot and a half long drawer with just a few sizes, individually bagged no less.

Same with nails, HD has a lot of stock on the regular stuff but a poor selection of things like siding nails.

I shop there quite a lot though (closer that Lowes which i too like better).

I did a post a while back on the 10 clerks at HD and what I do after the 5th "Can I help you?", wasn't pretty.
Murphy says: Why do they all disappear when you actually have a question?

Thanks for the reminder, I gotta get them dumped in the lake before bodies decompose and start to smell.

turns out Murphy's law also applies to wrenches and inverse torx bits.

Not enough room to get my extended socket on

Needed to go get a 24mm open wrench.

They don't sell inverse torx bits as singles
Needed to buy a $39 kit!

Better luck with my rear swaybar links
got the inserts milled down
all torqued down ready to go.
