Well, I had a deja vu back to the Harbor Freight of 20 years ago.

Bought an abrasive blast cabinet at Summit. Big headache putting it together, HF quality and instruction sheet from 20 years ago.
Don't buy this one, pay $40 more and go to HF.

But in the end, it's just a metal cabinet and a gun.

I got 20lb. of glass beads to start with. I'll try it out tomorrow.

No more standing in front of a wire wheel.

Will that thing clean up a part as fast as said wire wheel?
I like your cardboard box debris containment method.

Yea, Joe. As fast as a wire wheel? Well, the one I used last month (My buddie's) was somewhere in the 20 times faster than a wire wheel. Simply amazing.

And the glass bead finish is so much nicer, no wire wheel marks.

If something's extremely rusted, I'll use different media.
I plan on getting some ground glass, black oxide and maybe some plastic media.

The glass beads also are great on brass & aluminum.

Yea, it works. BUT, you have to really watch it if you change to a grinding wheel, the sparks may lite a small fire in the box. Ask me how I know.

Well, I just downloader the HF product manual, their cabinet is identical except for the lighting and the manual is every bit as bad as the Summit one.

These grills took 5 min. or less. A wire wheel would have been a half hour. Plus all the small places you can't get into with the wheel and you have to switch to a dremel.

I can make it worse, Marcus, I paid $3,000 for that C2.

If that doesn't work out for you Bill, you can always try beading these.

Yea, a fairly reasonable expense, $210 for this El-Cheapo plus $34 for the media.

I.ve spent so many hours in front of a wire wheel that this seems like heaven.

I got the cabinet fired up for the first time today.

This was done in one minute's time. Paint, rust gone on half of this part.

Yea, all it was was some caulk in the 4 corners of the cabinet and 2 places on the hopper where the dump valve is.

As in all the Chinese crap, it didn't fit real well, had to elongate a bunch of holes (there were about 100 screws/bolts in the assembly).
AND the stupid fukin Chinese manual - The assembly instructions sucked (not a big deal). Then, after they explained how to use it (even bigger joke), on the last page, final paragraph - "be sure to caulk all the seams to prevent leaks."
Danm glad I did the research on the web and knew to caulk everything.

And nothing on the gun, 4 nozzles of different sizes - no explaino.
4 metal tubes with different orifice sizes and rubber washers (not even noted in the manual, won't fit the gun, damn if I know what they're for).

With all that, it's working fine and it's not flimsy after everythings bolted up.

I did go to HD and buy a high micron filter for the shop vac since shop vacs don't like glass (more internet reasearch).

The beautiful thing about being here in Reno is no humidity, stuff doesn't rust unless it's left outside. I have some parts that went 10 years -no rust.

But, on the C2 parts, I have some stuff from Eastwood called Oil Finish, spray/wipe it on and it will keep things rust free for years. Just spray with brakeclean then Simple Green and paint right away.

A bit, and some is sucked out by the shop vac.
It really depends on which media on how reusable it is. The glass beads last a long time. I figure 20lb will last me a couple years. I got 20 lb for $34 and only pored in half of it.

Some media does get broken up but then you have new, sharp edges on that media to use again.

The glass bead that hits the part falls back into the hopper and is continuously recycled thru the gun.

I should have done this a long time ago but didn't have a compressor that would do it.

There was a vendor selling blasters at the car show Sat. Maybe 4' long, included the compressor I think, $2k. I can't imagine how much time one like you have would have saved me over the years, not just on cars either.

Well, I don't know about the quality of the $2k unit. I went the inexpensive route.
The compressor plus accessories from Home Depot - $500. tha cabinet - $210 w/o media. 4 year warranty on the compressor.

Been there, done that Kevin with my sandblaster rig.

I should have taken a pic of that, it was half a cardboard refridgerator box with 2 arm holes and glass duct taped on.
Damn it was beautiful.

Are you considering softer media, like walnut shells and such?

Yea,but the round glass bead does such a nice job since it doesn't have sharp corners. And you can always lower the air press.

I'm going to get walnut, plastic media, alum or black oxide.
All are about $15 for 10 lbs at Summit and I can just walk in and pick them up.

Looks like I'll never use sand again.
