It's called System Tool... and it's messing up bastet44's laptop.

I thought I had nailed it... ran in safemode, ran Spysweep, it found it and I deleted... guess what... it's STILL THERE.

I am sick and fucking tired of these sites that direct you to questionable fixes that promise solutions that only run scans and then tell you it will cost you $30 to download the fix. I don't trust anyone enough these days to give up a credit card number.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

If it keeps coming back it's in the registry.

If you found it there and cleared the registry, you need a better spyware tool.

I know adaware and spybot are popular and free, for the life of me I can't remember what I used last, it's been so long.

FWIW, I don't run any antivirus programs, I find them to do more harm than good.

malwarebytes anti-malware
super anti spyware
anti virus guard

These are all free and were recommended to me by my cousin who is a computer technician.

Malwarebytes should take care of it. Although I had one the other day that I had to download a linux based bootable image and create a CD to get that one.

Sometimes all it takes is one product.
Other times it may be 2,3,4 or more to find the little bugger.

WHen a bug becomes evasive, I pull the drive and have a "mule" computer scan the drive in a cradle.

A momentous day in guru-land. Steve and Andy are on common ground. They actually agree on something. . Steve helped me through a similar situation. Between his suggestions and my sons probing, I have been problem free for about 6 months now. Once again guru helps guru.

Just because we're holding hands, doesn't mean we'll take warm showers until the wee hours of the morning.

Of course not. The hot water tank won't hold up that long, even an 80 gallon. You'll take lukewarm to cold showers until the wee hours of the morning
