Here are some pics of the system as it is being built. Everything is in place and tack welded. The system will be made so that it can be removed without having to cut anything.

Here is how it looks coming out of the headers.

These are the heat shields that we put on to protect the tranny. Hope that's enough.

What the engine bay looked like after working on it to make it look better.

When it's all done I will see how it sounds. I have no idea at this point. I think they are doing a good job on it. More later......

Yes, Marcus! Dyno. I would love to see what the numbers look like. Did you baseline before?

I wonder what a tune would do? Or should we wait until the next phase is complete?

oh, so many questions...

The baseline is in a thread called Ultra's Dyno.....something. The best run was right at 200 hp at the rear wheels. Hope to have Mick help with tune but may wait until phase 2 next winter.

Ah, excellent.

I am real curious how an otherwise stock L98 responds to an exhaust upgrade, or, how restrictive is the stock intake...

To do it right I should dyno after the intake upgrade and then again after the tune.

That is looking real nice.

Should be a big gain for an L98 if you orginally dyno'd with the single cat/Y-Pipe exhaust system.

Looks good so far! What are the final details as far as cat and x-pipe selection and pipe diameter?

Did the shop provide the band clamps? I think I'm gonna try those on my next set up and need a good source.

Thanks guys. Matt I will check on the clamps for you. The shop did provide them. Out of the headers into 3" cats then down to 2.5" thru the X pipe on back to the stock diameter pipes to the mufflers.

Jeff from what I read it is for sound and performance. Lot of C5 and C6 guys use the 3" and like the sound.

the x-pipe is designed to balance pulses from left/right.

As flow comes down the pipe, it crosses the other and speeds up the scavaging.

This can also remove resonance.

I found this on the X pipe on the internet and it backs up what Andy is saying.

Since V8's fire unevenly, exaust exits in pulses rather than a steady flow. While one pipe is filed with pressure the other is relitivly pressurless but by conecting the two pipes in a siamese pattern it allows the exhaust to pass through the pipe quicker. This improved breathing will increase horsepower.

@Matt: Those SS clamps that they are useing were bought at CarQuest parts store here in town. So I am thinking NAPA or any of them would have them. The box did not have a logo or manufacturer that I could see, so they probably came from China.

The car is finished and I went down to listen to it and I liked it. There is a burble as it idles but does not have the deep rumble some folks like. When you rev it up you get more of a a..........I am at a loss for words here. Maybe a raspy high performance sound. Any way it was and still is raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock so no test drive till tomorrow.

Here are a couple more pics and I will try to figure out how to get a sound bite when I get some time. Just standing there next to it, I really like the way it sounds. The real test will be on the road.

Marcus - thanks for checking on the clamps. I did find them at a few parts stores online. They are usually called "band clamps" and sometimes "seal clamps" and run around $8 each.

As far as the sound, I think most guys want a cam overlap lump but can't get it from the stock cam, so they settle for loud and think it sounds good. I call bs. I'm sure your system is gonna sound good. I'd like to hear some clips.
