In 1995ish my dad bought a Beautiful blue '88 then we moved to Florida and I spent a couple of months driving it around. It was awesome for a 21 year old to cruise top off around West Palm Beach. He had that car for about 12 years then he traded it in on a '76. Which is also beautiful and he's put a lot of time and work into it including pulling the engine, swapping heads, cam, carbs, etc. The list is too long.
This summer I drove up to PA to see him and for us to attend Corvettes at Carlisle. While there we did some work on my '90. Apparently this brought the C4 bug back for Dad.

I don't have any before pics but he bought a white '91 with red interior from a guy in NJ. The guy admitted that it had been lightly hit in the front end but claimed it was repaired correctly. Dad noticed some things once he got it home that told another story.

Yep, he's taking his time and doing it right.

Whoever fixed it the first time only put about 1/2 the bolts back in it. He's got more money in fastners than actual parts at this point. ha-ha.

Damn... I will defend the prior owner - some body shops are thieves and will say it's right when it isn't. Ask me how I know.

It looks sharp. I love the white on red look. Very classic.

I am pretty sure that he's not going to do any engine mods. I think the reason he did all that with the '76 is the absence of all the computer stuff that we have on the C4's. We had a good time pulling the engine/tranny on it though. I wish I knew what I did with those pictures.

Well, I drove up to Raleigh and got dad a "new" impact absorber on Sunday.

Paid the guy $200 and got the impact absorber and all of the turn/fog lights. I think it was a good deal.

Looks like a good time to polish up the lenses - I'm gonna do that if I ever pull the front bumper, and put some of that protective film on them.

So, you're replacing the egg crate impact absorber with the later foam one. I wonder how they compare weight wise and for ease of installation? I seem to recall hearing that they are not quite as "forgiving" as the egg crate. Yeah, that's a good price, especially including the fog light housings. Been looking for a nice pass. side one myself.

It weighed 35lbs after I had it packed up for shipping if that helps.

What do you mean about it not being as forgiving?

That is some serious foam. I hope it's not a problem installing it since they use the same front cover.

Well, there's no spring back on the foam if it gets dented, also the closer fit could make bumper adjustment more difficult, guess you could shave it if need be. I can't find my #'s on the weights but would be interested to see if there's a difference between the two.

Good point, although in my case it wouldn't matter, the bumper is fiberglass. Be interesting to find out exactly why they changed it. Cost or some kind of improvement, maybe like what you said.

He is going to park it until the fall then he's going to try to rebuild it himself. I told him to make sure he reads the PeteK threads a couple of times before he starts.
