OK... I know that Brad and some others have changed exhaust systems to go back to a more tame sound. Either in the past year I have become an old fuddy-duddy or this 383 exhaust combo is definitely louder and has mucho worse harmonic drone. I currently have the 3" Maganaflow Cat Back and its just too loud for my wife.

I have a factory resonator left over and the pipes that go rearward from there, however I have no factory mufflers. I gave them away a while back. What did you guys do to meet a happy medium between sound quality and performance. Also, I have no plans for Corsa, I'd like to just find a good quiet muffler to stick on here behind the resonator if I can fit all that under there.

Here is a used factory one, be sure to check shipping. You could sell yours to make up the cost. Bose also makes headphones for planes. A set of those may work too.

I'm going to the factory lt exhaust, Don. Same boat, my magnaflows are too loud with too much drone. I got mine from a fella on CF for cheap.

Don, I might be shopping for a 3" Magnaflow cat back, but it will be a while before I am sure. Keep me in mind if you decide to sell what you have.

NAPA Sound Masters for my 90. No drone, inexpensive. Maybe they make them for an LT set up.

Baffles might be another option - I have seen some cone-shaped ones that can be installed inside the pipes.

x-pipes might help...

However, to my (very sensitive) hearing, Corsa is the best. I know, it's expensive as hell, but it does work well.

@Marc - Just so you know, what works on an L98 may not help an LT1. The exhaust configuration is seriously different.

Have you tried to plug one of the muffler outlets?

I remember back a few years ago on CF a guy figured out that it quited down his Magnaflow and got rid of the drone...

I would suggest a simple expandable rubber freeze plug - if you can find one that will fit the exhaust tip.

Easy to uncork it for the track and cork it back up for the ride to and from.

I found the thread.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-te ... ltered-my-magnaflows.html

Dude there used steel wool to block off one outlet per muffler - but I think just a rubber freeze plug in the tip would be easier.

i tried the cone shaped baffles and they really didnt change the sound at all just lightened my wallet by a cnote .if you are going to use a resonator get the one off a 96 its a true 23/4 in one .the other years neck down to either 21/4 or 21/2.you could most likely build a really nice system for around 400. use the 23/4 in exhaust pipe, and intead of an xpipe put in a balance tube. i just put one on at a buddies suggestion and the car is a lot quieter .it really freeked out a modded neon that tried me on for size . couldnt believe that i pulled him by 5 cars from 50 to 110. he just knew he would beat me as the car was so quiet .hehe. it seems that the xpipe promotes drone a little on this chassis . i need to go to the strip next weekend and see what effects it has on performance , you can get 21/2 in super turbo muffler and she will be almost as quiet as stk but make some decent power . you really don't need a resonator if you use the crossover . lastly the 96 lt4 cars had a balance tube that was installed behind the rearend . gm found that it quieted down the car a bunch. hope this helps a little . what is your rear wheel hp????/

Here's an interesting link on exhaust science. Seems relevant for an Lt1 setup, also.http://www.superchevy.com/technical/e ... st/0505phr_exh/index.html
