Greetings! Our regular chat starters are slacking off this morning, so I figured I'd pitch in. Congrats to Boston hockey fans! Sounds like the Vancouver fans need some anger management training - wacky goings-on there. Haven't driven the Vette in a few days, gonna have to rectify that soon.

Have a good day, all!

Yeaterday, I wanted to load up the truck for a trip to the dump.
Today I'm going to give some serious consideration to loading up the truck for a trip to the dump.
Tomorrow......

Well, there's always next week.

Good morning Brad, thanks for starting things off. Tommy is probably so sore from handaling all those big rocks that he can't type......Just had a big lightning stike near here. Flash then a huge BOOM. Dog jumped a foot in the air and then in my lap all shaking and whinning. Hit around here somewhere....unbelievable power.

That guy with the C5 called yesterday and told me he would take 14K for the car. I said I am not trying to beat you down it is not a good time for me right now with taxes and weddings going on. If I showed up with that it would be like......well it wouldn't be good! Nice car though.....don't do anything stupid, don't do anything.....

The 90 was low on Freon. I finally figured out how to read the codes and it threw an 09. I am also fixing the fan speed switch or whatever it is called so I should have that working also now.

Gotta go, have a good day guru's!

Good Morning CGs!

Last night I had the opportunity to meet one of our members, Mike (HDFire). Mike has a beautiful 89 convertible that he's trying to solve some running issues with. One step on the list was replacement bosch injectors from Jon at FIC. So I stopped over at his place last night and we got to working. Got it all torn apart without incident and mostly back together with only one or two swear words Waiting on some new gaskets for the upper plenum and it'll be all buttoned up. Then we can check to see how it's running. Mike is a great guy, a true car nut. He's built a ton of hot rods and street rods, from 30s, 40s, etc to 80s fieros! He's also built some sweet custom bikes. I saw some pictures on the garage wall and they were amazing. We probably could have gotten things done faster, but the conversation was so great that we kept getting side-tracked and just jaw-jacking. It was a good time.

Other than that, I have a few errands to run today and maybe I'll tinker in the garage.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Good Morning Gentlemen!

I have been pretty busy off and on for the past couple days and haven't been able to post much. However, I'm hoping to get some time this afternoon to do some more troubleshooting on the Vette. Maybe by the weekend I can solve some issues and take it for a long ride. I have been just driving it around town here for short jaunts to the grocery store across the street and down to North Beach for an ice cream in the evening. The wife still hates the loud exhaust, but I think its more of the drone. I love the sound of the car at idle but that 1800RPM drone is killing the fun for her. I hate to chop off those nice looking Magnaflow mufflers and stick some aluminized Midas Muffler on it... LOL

Tommy -- sorry I didn't get to check in yesterday, but how is the big project going? I hope better today.

Chat wif you all later!

Don, did you ever look into the silencer cones like this? Again, I have no experience with them, but it might be a simpler option than changing exhaust systems.

Ha! I'll let ya think that.
Be more like.....it's 100 degrees in that back shop, shorts, wifebeater top, beer and sweat rag close by, ex will be there to help do and show me so I can learn. Praying for only needing a head gasket not a set of heads. Engine is hydrolocked.
Ex will come do the work for gas money but the agreement is, I'll be doing work and he will be there to make sure I don't fk up something. This will be a learning experience for me. If you hear a woman cussing loudly all the way where you are, it will be me - you'll know it's not going well.

My neighbor's having a 2 car garage built. They had the slab done A truck pulled in at 9:30 this morning when I left to go down town. I get back at 12 and the garage is totally up, 2 1/2 hour, the sidea and rafters are up and they're hauling plywood up for the roof. Damn.

Afternoon guys(and Letty)...I've been busy again this morning with getting stuff together to leave for KC in the morning. Then I got a call from my mechanic, saying he could look at the daughters' van, so I decided to get it over to him (24 miles away). My daughters' semi-ex driving the van me following in the pickup. I've got 5 gallon extra water in case we need to fill it back up. We make it about 8 miles and she starts to get warm. Pull over to add water and the recovery tank is full, the radiator is full, pressure on the upper hose and the thing is hissing out the top of the engine...SOB the thermostat isn't opening, that could answer a lot of questions. Well, instead of waiting for it to cool down, I decide to just hook on to it and pull it the rest of the way. The SIL did a great job of steering that pulled vehicle. The mechanic seems to think like me. I hope we can get it fixed without spending a ton of money on it.

Don, that drone is a killer, just get it fixed and everyone will be happier. Bill, I like the Bose system, where the other 901? Matt, it cool to meet and help others that we meet on line. Marcus, we actually got some rain the other night, but we could still use some, send some of the sh!t our way.
Got to go out to the shop and do some woodworking. I'll check in later.

Letty - too bad you aren't closer, I'd give you a hand. I think having a little "mod party" with local people would be great. I'd like to do that one day. Usually I think it ends up being two guys working and six guys standing around drinking beer...but that's ok!

TB - requisite pictures of woodworking project?

I am irritated so far today. I've been doing errands and work but seems like nothing is getting done. I had to go to the store this morning and get some new work boots and a few things for work, that killed almost 2 hours between driving and being there. Stopped by HD and picked up a spline tool so I could replace a couple screens. I got home, took the two damaged screens out and rescreened them. Not hard, just time consuming. Went to the hardware store (several) to get some gaskets for the sprinkler system main valve. No store seems to have 1 3/4" OD flat washers. So I bought bigger ones and cut them myself. Installed it and it's leaking like a sieve. Must have cut it a hair too small. Also, one of the zones is turning on by itself w/o demand from the controller. So I need to check that valve somehow. I'm no sprinkler guru, so I'll be researching that later. And I still need the new gasket. Currently defrosting the freezer door because the water line freezes up about once a month and won't dispense water...geeze. I'm gonna get a workout in and then go to the mall to return baby clothes my wife bought that are too small. So I've been busy. Worst part is when she gets home, she'll complain that I didn't do anything all day Can I have a drink now?

Don - did you buy a new system to quiet that down, I don't remember? If not, you can try stuffing some steel wool in one outlet on each side of the muffler and see if that helps. Stick it in hard with a broom handle or it will just blow out on acceleration. I did that and it seemed to quiet it down, but then I laid the hammer down and it blew the steel wool out. If you like it, I've heard of guys getting some large OD washers and welding them in to one side of the tips, that changes the backpressure in the muffler and supposedly eliminates the drone. Can't verify that with personal experience, though.

I can't afford too much at this time. I'm still recovering from the engine fiasco and the wife is still out of work for a while. So... things are a little tight here compared to what we are accustomed to. I'll try the steel wool but I'm afraid it could get stuck up in there and not come out. I'm thinking about taking it to a local guy that does some custom exhaust work and having him put some magic on it if he can do something for less than $300. I'd trade the Magnaflows for something else if it were a better alternative without killing too much HP. Like everyone else that has gone down this road before me, I'm looking to have my cake and eat it too. Moderate exhaust tone and maximum flow. However we all know that max flow means more air, thus more noise. I can probably get $200 for the Magnaflows, that would help out with the new mufflers... whatever they may be.

Don, thanks for the mojo - I'll need it. The biggest thing I've done so far is change out my radiator and then other small things. I ended up ducking out of doing the starter. Not cause I tried to but cause while I was on my weekend hiatus, the guy that has my car was nice, got parts and did it for me. MUCH appreciated. Actually taking off heads and mess scares the shit out of me but I'm not afraid to tackle it with help right there. And, Matt I'd be up for a 'mod' party myself. I'm sure I could learn a lot from you guys, but I'd also probably be one of the "6 standing around drinking beer"....
Been a hairy day at the office thus far as well. Hope that's not an indication of the rest of my four days off.
Hope you all have a good afternoon....

Changes the routing for sure. Routes higher flow through one outlet just like the old stock mufflers did.

I'm tired, dusty, dirty and sweaty. My hands are sore as hell. Ran through three masonary blades. Still not done. Got several hours more to finish. Don't think we'll be doing it tomprrow though. Still waiting for the county public works dept. to finish fixing the pipe. Fortunately we won't have to pay for it since it is a PTA project. The end of the job is clearly in sight.

BillH. Sounds like you had a tough decision to make today. Goto the dump or take one. Don, I must be lucky with my Flows. Only a minor drone above 65 but it's tolerable. Matt. Helping others is nice. What does your wife think about it? Letty, Good luck. Hope all goes well. Same for you

Ah, I decided to go to the casino and..........

Then went to the Round table Pizza buffet.

Then spent an hour and a half loading up a complete kitchen into the Silverado (with pizza heartburn), now I'm dusty.
