I drove past D&M Corvette today and this was parked outside forcing me to stop for a closer look. Asking price, $45k. This would be a really fun car, I'm thinking.
If you're in the Chicago area, a visit to their showroom in Downers Grove is a must.

64s fall through the cracks: not the first year, no disc brakes, no big block.

Thus, they are the easiest way to get into a mid-year. I could go for a nice convertible with a 4-speed. I'd even deal with the base L75, though the L76 or the L84 fuelie would be nice (I can't tell whether the pictured car is the L75 or L76).

$45k is not crazy talk - that's about #2 condition.

Yea, cept, it ain't a 64.

Unless someone put a 65 front clip on.

Looks nice but right now, 45k is pretty high.

A lot would depend on looking at more that the pics.

There's many nice drivers out there for around $36k.

And 65 seats and door panels.

L79, if you believe the stickers on the air cleaner.

For $45k, it might not be a bad deal. The rims are repops, in 65, the insides of the fins were grey.

Probably just the camera angle on the wheels.

Even the repops are $2,300 though.

I always thought those wheels really set off the car. I saw a beatiful black '66 a few years back with some aftermarket deep-dish ones that were extremely sharp.

You can buy a new 'vette for around $45k.
What's it worth after 5 years, or 3 for that matter?
Sales guy sold this same 'vette 5 years ago (before the collapse) for $50k. It's a consignment.
Honey, are you listening? Honey? It's an investment.

Better to buy one for $3,000 and keep it 38 years.

Most Corvette vendors are... that's a given...

however, if this happens to be a bitsa 64 and 65, who cares? It looks like a rather period correct C2, with much of the right bits, and at $45k, not a bad car to drive and enjoy and take to the local show-n-shine. It's never going to light up Bloomington Gold, so who cares? It will never lose value... or only a little (per Tommy!).

This is the best way into a C2 - cheap and not perfect! If you want to drive one, this is the one to get.

Those $150k 67 L71s are nice and all, but not real friendly; overheating, really loud, ride is poor, MPG nonexistent... At least the L79 will get mid-teens on the highway! You won't be looking for pumps every 200 miles!

I could get a lot more enjoyment out of this one than a new vette, and for longer, and be better off when selling it.

$45K into a car that you beat the crap out of doesn't make much sense to me anyways, and that's exactly what I'd do in a 2012 vette.

I guess I missed this thread when it started. Right off the bat I knew it wasn't a 64...unless they did a lot of work, the "gills" and dash are 65-66, the seats 65, the emblem on the rearend, 64-65, no emblem on the hood (66 only). I immediately recognized it as a 65. It's a nice car, would take some extensive checking to make sure that the birdcage is OK and no rust elsewhere. Might be a decent buy, but I'd bet they'd take less.

BTW, rust? Thia is the steering box that had east coast rust on it, was cleaned up in 1988 or so and has been sitting on a shelf ever since. I don't see no rust.

I realize there are other factors involved in longevity, but hopefully the galvanized steel used in the C4 structure that is "prepared for a projected 20 year service life" is more resistant to rust than that in the C2.
