Up early for a meeting so I thought I would kick things off. Looks to be a nice day here again......keep them coming.

Got a letter from State Farm that they are cancelling my 21 year old's insurance. I took it in and raised hell with them.....we have a huge insurance bill every month with the business vehicles and all......She had a fender bender in 08 and a 6 to 10 over speeding in 11. She did roll ahead when the other cars started moving around her at an intersection and bumped the guy in front of her. No damage to our car and 800 dollars to his ratted out Honda civic bumper.

She got a neglegent driving ticket for that along with the accident. She did not contest it and went and paid the fine and pled quilty. She should have gone in and fought it and tried to get the DA to get rid of the Neg driving.....insurance companies don't like neg driving tickets.......I'm pissed and told the insurance company not to mess with us.......we will see how that goes for me.....lol.

Always something......

Better get going....have a great day Guru's....

Good Morning CGs!

Site is running a bit slow for me....anyone else? Dunno why.

Sucks about the insurance, Marcus. Hope it works out. Last year when I complained about my rates and threatened to leave to another company, my rates went down over $250 every 6 months!!! It's a racket. And legal. Damn.

Hope everyone has a great day!

She had a tough night Monday, a lot of pain, so they kept her in the hospital again last night. Sounded like things were moving along better yesterday, so maybe they'll let her out today. She's going to stay with my mother-in-law for a while since her place doesn't have so many steps. We found out yesterday she has no insurance - lovely. And my niece's mother, ever helpful, told her that she should return all her Christmas gifts to get money to help pay for her bills. Of course she has no intention of helping out.

Hump Day already - yay! It is mighty quiet around the office, nice change of pace. I've been looking at the ATI Super Damper - wonder if that would help with the vibration in my Vette's engine? Kind of a spendy bugger, but it would be well worth it if it helped. Something to chew on while I wait for spring, anyway.

Have a good day, everybody!

Looks like the topic of the day might be insurance. I could write a book. I have State Farm on all my vehicles. It costs us a small fortune every month but they have a paint rider that we have used in the past on custom paint jobs and they pay .......... Never, ever, ever declare guilt. Always contact your insurance company if you're involved in an accident. Fight, fight, fight, with an attorney. Never ever, ever, allow the other party to make an undeclared cash setlement. It will come back to bite you in the ass. Call the cops, get an accident report, contact your insurance company, secure legal councel if needed. Let the chips fall where they may. And keep your mouth shut.

Brad ...... Not having insurance is a game many people play. They gamble with their future. They bet they won't need it. It's all well and good ... until. A declaration of bankruptcy may help ...... once. Debt doesn't just go away. It waits patiently as your credit scores tank. It's sad that your neice chose to gamble. It all could have been avoided. Sorry to hear of the troubles. Surely this economy makes it impossible for some to comply with the ability to maintain insurance. Those people face the potential of devastating future financial losses if they are involved in a catastrophic or health related loss. Yes ..... It sucks. I could go on ... May as well start that book.

Yeah, they don't have a pot to piss in - my brother-in-law (her father) already lost his house and owes money to anyone in the family who has 2 nickels to rub together. My niece is working part-time and going to school. So unfortunately insurance fell by the wayside. The county will likely help out some, but there will be hefty bills.

Good morning gurus....Ouch, Brad. That just sucks, but like Tommy said, it a tough lesson to learn. We, the taxpayers, end up footing the bill for a lot of that. Marcus, with the business riding in the wake, SF may change their mind.

We will head home after while, it's been a good run, but it's time to go home.

I'm sure I'll watch that as much as I watch Keeping Up With The Kardashians. ........... Never ............

Somehow I do get hooked into watching the Pawn Shop shows, people that buy storage units and the guys that pick through the massive junk collections across the country digging out collectibles. We often go to rural flea markets plus out of the way antique and pawn shops when traveling looking for rareties, barn finds and steals. It's a sickness.

There's one guy I know that finds rare 60's car parts lying around in his garage.

Huh, I always thought it was throwing up with the Kardashians.

But it's also why I have a very high opinion of a lot of the American public.

It's much easier when you can just open the livingroom closet and find rareities.

On the zoom pad here at the folks place. No internet, so have to use this thing. I think it has a long way to go to be as good as a laptop. Everyone has left and headed home.except us. We will head home after lunch.

I kind of like the pickers, the pawn guys try to rip off the people coming in 99% of the time.

I found this early piece of Waterford Crystal in an antique shop. The owner told me it was really old, I verified That by the 1891 date on the bottom.
Funny that it was done with a Sharpie.

Almost ready to call it a day, I hate bodywork. Already been uo inside the wheel wells with a grinder. Got fiberglass in my eyes, damn leaky googles.

And sanding anything sucks.

Hi gurus. Its been about 4 months since my last post. Busy with work and my MBA. No time for anything! just work and studies. Dad has been helping with one of his SEAL Team buddies that suffered a stroke back in October. He is building a ramp and handicap access bars throughout his house. The prognosis looks good for him, just needs time and rehab.
I hope everyone had a nice relaxing Christmas and a Great New Year. Take Care Guys. Erin

Marcus My parents had the same experience with State Farm. They have been customers of SF for 35 Years. SF said they had too many claims since 07. Hail damage, and wind damage to house and 1 auto claim from a hit and run in a parking lot. State Farm Lost my parents and me as insurance customers. Went to Farm Bureau with better rates and service. BTW I never had a claim and my rates went up with SF. Not Cool.

Hi Bill. Yea Dads been busy. His SEAL Team is still close. He never talks about what they did in Vietnam what ever they did they were excellent at it.
His welding class maybe canceled because of the School Corp is 10 million in the hole. The State of Indiana has 1.8 Billion yes Billion in their coffers but the public schools are in the red. Needless to say he is not a happy camper. Even though he is retired from teaching auto shop and wood shop he agreed to teach the vocational welding class at night.
I hope all is well with you Bill and looking forward to 2012. Take Care Erin

Hi Erin good to hear from you, hope your studies are going well. That's funny that you should mention that but we recently had a hail claim and I had an 05 Duramax Crew Cab Silverado stolen and totaled. I told them they better not be punishing us for those claims with my daughter situation. Seriously her older sister was hell on wheels and thought the high school parking lot was like bumper cars and we never had any problem.......

Also funny is I just got a letter from Farm Bureau wanting me to come in and talk to them about car insurance.....I might just do that.....have a great new years!

Great, I just switched from Safeco to State Farm. Had an accident year and half ago, got four points on my record for something I couldn't help. Cop knew it, said so yet cited me anyway. Only about $4000 in claims between two cars, the one I was driving was totaled for only $2000. Ins only went up $14/mo for that and then when I got the '02 magically all of a suddden, it shows up on my record. Hasn't been there all this time, I get those little letters every six months telling me they've checked my record. Now it's there and Safeco bumped me up to their highest risk category for that one thing after years of nothing. State farm came in $30/mo less for the same coverage. I'd heard horror stories from the State Farm group in the next town over but was recommended by a friend to the guy here. Turns out I went to school with him.
I guess let's just hope nothing happens to me for a while...

Evening guys/Erin....say Hi to your Dad for me. I know how demanding working on the masters and working full time is, my daughter did the same thing a couple years back. It will all be worth it when you're done.

State farm sh!t in their bed with me 30 years ago when I moved to SW Kansas. Raised my rates, just for moving. Said I was more apt to get into an accident out here in this rural setting compared to the college town I lived in....they are so full of BS. I went to FB, but their rates started climbing to the outrageous, so now I'm with Shelter, so far so good.

One thing I have heard about State Farm is they will go with national sale average on my 911s. The Vettes I want covered to handle a $5000 hit. Much more than that they would total the Vettes. Realistically my 87 911 is worth over 25K and the 83 I wouldn't sell for less than 17K. Like cars in like condition and I have all my receipts to prove it. I don't want to think about it ..... It's giving me a headache.

For those of you that think I'm nuts .... go price them. I would not sell them anyway. I'll dog my cars to death on a track and tow them to the junk yard before I'd sell them for short money. So looks like that's what's in their future when we're done with them.

Hi TB. How is school going for you this year? Yea this MBA is worth it but long days and nights.
I really miss the Gurus, lately the only emails I get and send are to Profs. These guys drive Audi's and Lexus. You would think if they are Business Professors they would buy American, just a thought. Bought a Toshiba Table nice! Profs have apps that can be downloaded and an Asst. is always on duty for questions. Hum...
Spending the night with Mom to keep her company while dad is in Grand Rapids.
