GM CGs

I'm off to run the nursery for several hours while the wife and crew do an installation. They have been working on the big place in Key Largo. A potential buyer is coming in Monday for a third visit so the owners want the place lookin really good. Income is way better than outgo.

Good Morning CGs!

No park here today, Tommy. Despite the heat wave of a high of 23 today, I don't think we'll be playing on the slides and swings. Good luck with the landscape cleanup.

I should be on my way to work.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Good morning Gurus! I slept in until 7AM this morning!! Yeah
However, that caused me to miss the Katie's Coffee house Cars & Coffee this morning. It's amazing that this get-together is still going as strong as it is. Temps this morning were probably dipping a bit below freezing here. No snow to talk about yet and no salt has been spread. Crossing our fingers that the snow doesn't make it this far south and east.

If things warm up a bit in the garage today I may go out and do an oil change. I have just gone over 5,000 miles on the new engine and this will be the fourth oil change. I think I can leave this oil in for a longer period this go round.

Have a great day!

Howdy! After sleeping in good and proper, I'm gonna start prepping the halls for paint. The excitement is at a fever pitch. Another long weekend, anyway - we have Monday off, which is unusual.

Enjoy your day!

Just got finished having a late breakfast with wife. After posting here this morning I went down and did a light detail of the Vette and warmed her up. Then took a fun drive to do some morning errands and pick up some breakfast for the two of us.

It's cold but with beautiful blue skies today. The bay looks inviting and if I had a boat ready I'd be out there today. I talked to a guy last night that is preparing for another trip from here to the Bahamas on a 35 foot ocean going sailboat. He and his girlfriend have done this twice already and he says that its the biggest thrill in a lifetime. Personally, knowing what a body of water like the Chesapeake Bay can dish out to sailboat; I think guys that sail on the oceans have huge Cajones!!!

I'm not sure what I want to get into today yet. I need to do some winterizing outside and getting ready for the inevitable (freezing and snow). I know that our luck can't hold out here much longer with no snow or heavy icing. I need to close all the outside faucets and bring the hoses in etc. Clean out the gas fire pit and cover it over for a couple months too. Oh yeah, I need to crank up the generator and make sure its working too. Rake the leaves, clean out the shrub beds again and run the mower over the lawn one last time...Ok, I'm ready for nap just thinking about what needs to be done around here. Maybe I should just go across the street and watch some football and drink some beer!!

Yup, 5,000 miles already. I live at least 25 miles from just about anything and another 25 miles to most of my Corvette Club activities and friends. So, when I take the Vette to do things its typically at least a 100 mile day. For example, last Saturday we went to the cruise-in over in Northern VA. I drove about 35 miles to my friend Jim's house (the closest of my Corvette friends), then we drove another 35 miles from his house to the cruise-in. Then we left there and drove another 25 miles to a Corvette Club Board meeting in Gaithersburg, MD. After the meeting I had to drive 60 miles back home. I do this kind of driving a lot!!! I also live about 50 miles from where I work, so if I drive the Vette to work its an automatic 100 mile day.

Some things I need to look into after 5,000 miles.

Road Racing Oil pan is still leaking from the drain plug. I have tried a few different gaskets and plugs but for some reason I'm still getting some leakage from those threads.

The Derale Deep Transmission Pan would be great on a 4X4 or other vehicle with higher ground clearances but I'm getting ready to replace it with another lower profile pan like the OEM but with a drain. I have snagged the drain plug when driving onto the lifts at the dealership. It bent it back a smidge but didn't cause any serious damage. I also have a few dents on the lower leading edge of it already from road debris, so I think it would be wise to replace it for something a little shorter.

It's running a little rich and also when I sit at a traffic light for a few minutes; I can smell fuel when I take off from the light. I'm not sure if this is from a bad fuel pressure regulator or I'm just dumping fuel into the intake while I'm sitting at idle.

I have a exhaust leak at the collector on the passenger side from removing and replacing that band clamp a billion times. It is too stretched out to seal very well and this is on my list of "To Dos" for the winter.

I love the torque and power the 383 delivers, However, it has serious traction problems when you get on it hard, especially if you choose to turn off the ASR. Last weekend I decided to be a showoff when I left the parking lot when leaving the cruise-in and turned off the ASR and shifted the trans manually. I left the lot without spinning wheels but took it up to about 5,000RPM before hitting second and when I did the tires just broke lose and the car got sideways before I realized I had lost traction and was too close for comfort to a tall left hand curb before I lifted my right foot. The Sumitomo 315s I have offer little traction and make little or no sound to let you know they are breaking loose until you feel the car sliding. I used to like those old bias ply tires that squeal like the dickens when you lit them up!!

LOL It's funny how public burn outs can go so wrong.. You can do them all day long intentionally on a deserted road but if you have an audience

All it takes is hours....and hours.....and hours.

One door latch - done and ready for lube.

The cad plating is off in spots but at least it's inside the door.

Evening guys....it has been a day full of basketball. #2GS played at 10am, they won by 5. #2GS played again at 1pm(wife and I didn't see this one), they won again, by 1 point. Wife and I left after #1's first game to drive down to the next town south of us (30 miles to watch #1GS play in the freshman tourney championship. They won by 7, GS had 15 points 8 rebounds and 5 assists (good game for him). Then after that game was over we high-tailed it back as we hosted a rare Saturday game for the high school. I worked three games this evening, just got home. Oh #1GS won their second game this evening by 11. I hope to get to stay home tomorrow and DNBFS. I guess I did get to take the Corvette again today down to the tourney game, so it wasn't all bad.

Those burnout videos make me laugh. The guy in the Z06, yea "burn off $600 in tires", ha, just what he deserved. And the guy who ran over himself...what an ID10T.

Bill, I have to agree with Tommy, that door mechanism turned out way better than I anticipated.

Thanks Tommy and Tom.

I'm really happy that I didn't have to take this darn thing apart. Everything works smoothly.

Someday, there won't be any rusty/dirty parts left.....someday.
