On thing that has always bothered me about my 89, since the cold January day I purchased it last year was the fact that although the heat come up hot... the blower motor, even on 10 (HIGH) fails to really push the air out of the vents. The heat just kind of leaks out of the vents, it doesn't really feel like its getting pushed out. The blower motor sounds like its pushing air, but even on 10 it sounds like its only pushing at around 5.

I have ask this question many times on CF with NO responses at all. So, hopefully I will get a little (if any at all) input. Does your C4 really push the air out, or do they all suck; rather then blow?

Dan

I have heard of this before, but I have to say I don't think it's normal.

I know I've seen this topic over at CF, but I don't remember any details. I bet if you did a search on "Fan Speed" or "Blower Speed" you might find something.

The only thing I have to compare with though is my '96. The fan blows just as hard as any car I've ever been in. I can't use any setting over about "7" for much longer than a few minutes, heating or cooling.

Mine spins hard, just doesnt blow hard. The 87 did both, it would blow harder on 5 with the C68 as my 94 will on 4 with the C60, and they both made about the same amount of sound when set to simular speeds.

My 94 seems to blow pretty good. Not nearly as hard as my Nissan XTerra which could peel your skin if you get to close to the vent, but I have not had any concern over the Vette's airflow. Seems to be in-line with most cars I have owned.

I'll bet you guys dollars to donuts that the heater core fins are blocked with dust build up.

Does the A/C blow hard or is it just heat?

Logic is that the A/C fins would be clogged with dust from the condensation build up, and that is why I ask.

You know, to be honest, that may have been suggested before and I don't think I checked it out, but what gets me is that it really doesn't blow all that hard.

Are the blower motors different from year to year?

No, my evaporator core is clean as a whistle, and the heater core is almost new.

Case,

I was reading on alldata a little. The program is decent, its agood if you don't have a FSM but it should probably only be used as supplimental. Anyway, under diagnosis, it suggests that because the relay is in a location that does get "moist" from time to time, the contacts can corrode leading to resistance and hence less power to the motor. There is a series of checks I think I will try and run that shows you how to test for voltage at various blower speeds. I don't know if this is the problem but I can't think of any better way to waste a Saturday afternoon :sleepy4: . That is of course after I finish diagnosing the MAF sensor issue, add the new horns I bought, install the shift light I've had next to my bed since July, change the oil, and install the C5 brakes. Why can't it ever be a quick fix?

Did you ever check this out? Just wondering because the fan strength on my 89 is pretty weak, too.

My 90 and my 91 both blow but the 91 has no heat, just A/C. By the time I think about fixing it winter will be gone here. The A/C in the 90 keeps losing refrigerent pressure but heats like a champ. They blow allright but they both suck.

I read in my 85 manual that the heater is not supposed to blow out of the dash vents. Underdash only.

On VENT mode though, it does blow out of there. If I'm ice cold and need it to feel like a furnace, I use vent mode. Otherwise, heater is fine.

In my 84 I think it's just right, not too strong not too weak. Coverage is good for Heat or AC

Itll blow what ever you want where ever you want provided its working.

I've notice it is not near as strong as a regular car in both 88's I have owned. I figured it was because there is not near the space to heat or cool as a larger car.

Hmmm. Noticed on the drive home the day I bought the car that the fan was pretty weak -- even on 10. I assumed it was normal, as it didn't make any strange noises, but now you all have me wondering ...

Damn, yet another thing on my growing task list
