The deceased family wanted answers. They (local police) pretty much dismissed them from the begining. Now they're all on a magic carpet ride with Jesse and Al and a host of others wanting to ride that train. I just wonder how many anglos and latins have been run down robbed and shot or beaten at the hands of blacks since this incident went down. Profiling? Racial profiling? Ethnic profiling? You bet your ass. Just because law enforcement pretends not to do it, I'm gonna do it. I've been on these streets to damned long and I can tell jackyl or hyena from a doe or a bull. Of course all of us have trouble with the wolves in sheeps clothing.

I don't usually post anything in PR&C but this moved me to write something.

Ya! Right!

Once again my theory seems to hold true. Each side has their argument, somewhere in the middle, lies the truth. Thanks to the media and those who ride the backs of dead men, the truth lies dying.

Stir the pot? The racist Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are surely doing that.
Seems it's OK for blacks to kill blacks, blacks to kill whites, but not for a white to kill a black.

What about the General Services Administration spending $832,000 of your tax dollars for a Vegas party with clowns, mind readers and commemorative coins labeling it "instructional"?

Coming from a criminal justice background, I really HATE to see cases tried in the court of public opinion.

If this was being handled properly, with competent police and prosecutors, dollars to donuts says that everything would have come out in court and that would be that.

As it is, it has turned into a typical cluster fuck of innuendo, lies, half truths, distortions and character assassinations. Oh, and don't forget that some laws are now being brought into question.

I don't care what Al and Jesse have to say. They pander to the lowest common denominator of ignorance and fear... which says something about the genpop, eh?

I hope that at some point a trial can occur, with real, verifiable chains of evidence, with proper court procedure. With real professional lawyers, with a real judge... but right now, there can't be a jury of peers, and that's because this is currently being played out in the court of public opinion, which means bombshells can be dropped without so much as an objection.

And a kid is dead.

As for the "news" sources that Matthew has selected, I don't believe they are all that unbiased.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the recording of the 911 call was doctored (not sure by who, one of the networks?) to make it sound more racially-charged. Where Zimmerman says "he looks black", seemingly of his own accord, he was actually answering a question from the 911 operator about the race of the person he was calling about.

I'm glad to see that the numerous marches here in Chicago are trumpeted by the clergy as against youth violence in general, not to make a martyr out of the dead guy. One wouldn't know it from the signs being carried, however.

I still remember the summer of 68. In Miami they like to burn down the neighborhood and loot all the stores that were willing to establish a business there. Well, that's one way to get rid of urban blight. I don't promote anarchy. I understand peaceful protest. It gets to the point where the message is lost and an annoyance established.. Just think back to the Occupy movenment. They got there message out. What it was exactly, I don't have a clue.

Thank you for this very predictable response. And I will say why as I progress.

Media, by its very nature has always wanted to hype itself. So they have a huge history of embellishing, enhancing, hyping, flowering up language so as to make the story bigger and more fanciful than it normally would be.

Case in point, have you ever read a paper from the pre-WWI era? Hell, pre-Depression? Oh, my, they are an absolute hoot.

Hyperbole was the rule of the day. Big words, big meanings, all trying to beat out the next paper for that sale.

However, something happened... something dramatic happened to the news media. No, they didn't just find ethics, I don't think they ever did, really, but three things happened with snapped them to awed attention, and made them behave. Because finally, the story didn't need elaborate narrative. It just needed REPORTED.

#1 - talkies. The ability to hear voices during the presentation of the news. Radio was really nothing more than reading the news from a paper... so other than adding more hype, the addition of moving pictures allowed the story to tell itself.

#2 - WWII. This changed a lot of things about media. It also created a generation of the press that had been humbled by experiencing such a life changing event. Honest, ethical news men came out of WWII, and for the first time ever, the media was perceived as being good. Men like Edward R Morrow, Walter Cronkite, Andy Rooney, Chet Huntly... the list goes on...

Which leads to the 800 lbs gorilla - #3 - TV. This, in its early days, was a wonderful medium for the news. Men like Walter Cronkite delivered the news in an objective, honest, ethical manner. It wasn't until late in Vietnam era that the media started to swing away. And by the late 1970s, local news outlets started local news wars with all their local "eyewitness this" and "action that" and mini-cams and promo's of pretty boy anchors and the cute weather girl. It became entertainment again. And they were now battling it out for the best hyperbole.

Fast forward another 30 years, and if the media isn't mainstream, it's uber-rightwing. Oh, and it could be uber-left. But the days of truly neutral reporting are sadly gone.

Let me ask you this...

Do you pay for your"cable" so you can watch your 460 thousand channels at any time of the day that you choose. Are some of those "News" channels?

Let me pull out 3 words from the above questions.

"Pay" "for" "News"........Thats Entertainment.

'nuff said.

I only get my news from the established news sources:

AP
Reuters
BBC
LA Times
NY Times
Time Magazine

And others of the same ilk. I avoid the local TV news, the cable news, you name it, I avoid it, because it's annoying and full of whatever agenda they are trying to push.

I find that AP and Reuters are the best. BBC is very good. LA Times and the NY Times do a good job. LA Times is good for regional issues. My local paper, the Daily Breeze does an excellent job with the local-local news.

I watch the local news at 10:00PM on Fox. WSVN

It has the traditional local schlock news, a smattering of non news entertainment news, a fire, a weather event, a local crime or two, national crap, stock market summary, weather and I usually skip the sports segment. I get an earful before I go to bed. Actually, the most important news to us is the weather. I try not to get too much information. They also have a consumer alert investigation segment and a legal segment with an attorney that lets you know if what an entity is doing is legal. The less I know the better. Of course I get a little news off my AT&T homepage too. If I wanna know I click.

TV news IS the 6 sources you cited Andy. These are all MSM sources from the "SPIN" doctors. If you can't cite one source other than MSM, you are only seeing what "they" want you to see. And with only that level of information, your saying your capable of making any unbiased opinion of your own?

IMO your an exceptionally intelligent man. Make any comment you like, but until you open your eyes to the sources of what your reading, you'll always have one side of the story.

First off, I am at a disadvantage, I am not sure what "MSM Sources" are. I don't know that acronym.

Here is how my head makes sense of the bullshit floating around it:

I read a story from the AP. I find that the AP, tho dry, will report events without much hype.

If it is a big story, it will appear on other news sources and they may or may not cite the AP as a source. Otherwise, they have supposedly done their own investigation on that given subject.

somewhere in there, discrepancies start to appear. I watch for what doesn't make sense and then question it all.

It's how I automagically filter lying spam. If it sounds too incredulous, it probably is.

Here is the problem... the system is inherently flawed. They only want us to see what they want us to see.

At the same time, I am not paranoid. I have a natural dislike for it, because I had to live with a paranoid mother. Trust me, I know paranoia...

As for "sides to stories..." There are so many sides I am losing count. Hell, Obama care is 1800 pages of legislation... who has actually read the entire law?

Funny you should mention that Andy. I listen or read the words of reporters and fill in the blanks with my own scenarios. I have a great bullshit sensor. I also know of the shady deals, covert ops, military actions etc. that all go unreported. It's the nature of the world we live in. The more people are kept in the dark the faster they turn into a mushroom. Let's all feel warm and fuzzy. You don't truly want to live in the real world; Do you?

P:S Lots of reporters demonstrate their ignorance of the subject matter they report on. Drives me whacko. Why not do a little background on the subject that you are reporting on? Geez, Louise ....... Quit looking like a lot of eneducated idiots. Afterall, most of them graduated with (supposed) higher education.
