Good Morning CGs!
Marcus - have you tried some stretching in that area to help the hip pain? Might help. It was pretty warm yesterday, mid 80s, will be about 71 today. Was a strong thunderstorm all night long last night, 10 pm until at least 4 am. House was so muggy when we went to bed that we had to turn the a/c on for the first time this season. Kids were sweating in their sleep. We don't like that. Didn't do much on my house last night, helped the neighbor move a little dirt for a few minutes, that was it. We are getting our rock delivery this morning. Looking forward to being done. Except now my FIL wants a stone circle around his tree in the front yard like mine :idontknow: Here is what the concrete looked like the other day...no final pic but you get the idea: And now to make you feel inadequate and worthless and lazy, this is *part* of my neighbor's project(s): Flower bed: Where my old river rock ended up (bad pic at night): Hope everyone has a great day! Matthew |

Happy Friday! Yard's looking great, Matt. Hope you're feeling better soon, Marcus. I dragged the Vette out of the garage this morning, since the weekend looks like it will be soggy. Oh well, plenty to do indoors.
Hope y'all have smooth sailing into the weekend! |

The reason I suggested mesh for the walkway Matt was to prevent cracking and offer more resistance against frost heaves. |

Looks like a fun weekend if the rain holds off. Sprint car racing tonight and tomorrow thae out to a nice dinner on Sunday. Looking to get into the 80* range again today.
I have to get the truck to the service center somehow tomorrow morning, brake line blew out the other night. It's always something with vehicles. |

I'm meeting one of my students this morning for some off track instruction. Since he's looking to get out of the street car track events and get his racing license, i told him he should learn heel and toe braking/downshifting.
So we'll go out on the back roads for lesson 1. Beats the hell outa nailing down flooring. Hope your hip's better Marcus. |

There is a reason trip insurance is offered. I take it it some cases. You know you are committed when you buy the discount ticket. I know people that have had heart attacks or other medical conditions just before traveling. This would have been a non issue had the traveler read what he was buying. Dying or not, it's all in black and white. Am I being a hardass. You betcha. I'm one of the ones that pays if I want it. http://finance.yahoo.com/blogs/the-ex ... y-back-160001321.html?l=1 |

Why would a lawnmower run with the choke open but die when the choke is closed? Lets see what our panel of experts has to say. It has been sitting for 8 months with gas in the tank. The gas had turned. You could smell the turpentiney smell.I changed the fuel and ran the motor. Runs fine as long as you don't close the choke. |

A-frame bushings for the S10 today and a rebuilt alternator for thr 91. Guy at the alternator/starter shop did an outstanding job. He reset the pulley and shaft for better alignment. He also found the cable going to the alternator was defective and replaced it. Looks great. I'll never buy a store bought rebuilt as long as this guy is around. As usual, the mechanic that services everything but the Vettes and Porsches threw in a little extra. He cleaned up my K&N air filter on the Vette for no charge. The mechanic and alternator shop are two doors down from each other. He saw it was a little dirty and just did it. Whats really cool is these guys are just hard working, honest guys. When I get the bill from them it's like. Thanks, you guys are great. The bills are fair with no fluff and no BS. I'm feel lucky to have these guys around. The electric shop guy fixed our diesel skid steer the other day. It was having starting issues. The dealer and three different indepentdent diesel mechanics couldn't figure it out. They threw expensive parts at it and it was never right. This guy squared it all away for about $325. Combined, the other guys got us for a couple of grand. I feel like going out and doing a few burnouts to test the alternator. What do burnouts have to do with it? Nothing! Still feel like giving it a little juice though. |

OH MY GOD --- What a week! or should I say two. I worked two weeks straight and 23 hours last weekend. I'm finally off for two days!!!
Now that I got that off my chest I got to go back and catch up on the past two weeks of Guru chat. I hope all is well with everyone. I went to a cruise-in last night on my way home from the salt mines and I listened to a nice Camaro Z28 with a 383 LT1. He had electric cut-offs on his exhaust and it sounded really bad ass with them open. Quiet as stock when it was closed. I'd like to have something like that. It was very cool. |

One of you Um,er gentlemen has this bass-ackwards. A motor is supposed to run fine with the choke open. You only close the choke to cold start. Therefore, one must assume that this is really a problem and not Friday Funnies, ie. the motor will run with the choke closed but dies when it's opened. Pull the carb off, turn it upside down and remove the float bowl. In the center will be the main jet, it's probably clogged with that goo. Put the long nozzle of a can of carb cleaner on thet hole and give it a good shot. Then carefully slide the steel pin out thet holds the float on (note that the float needle has a small wire that attaches it to the float). Gently remove the float & needle and give the brass fitting where the needle was a shot of carb clean. Reassemble and cut your lawn. |

evening guys.....it's been a long day. I was relegated to watching the 'study hall' while the school had our "spring Fling" a reward for doing well on the state assessments. I had 5-9 students all day. Then we hosted the county relays, a big track meet that draws 15-18 schools. I ran off the girls shot put. An attractive young lady (no BS) won the event throwing the shot 42'. Surprised me, she wasn't at all heavy or what you would think of as a shot putter. Slim, tall, curves in all the right places and attractive.
I got home and installed a new hard disk drive in my downstairs computer. It was slowing up due to it getting full (30% free space), and I couldn't move any more off, so I upgraded to a drive 8 times bigger. Most people would just get a newer, bigger, faster computer. Not me, I just couldn't see spending that money. The computer runs good now, just about as fast as my newer one. I bought a piece of software to make the transfer, it worked like a dream and was extremely easy to do. Took about 40 minutes (my actual time was about three clicks, software did the rest). Marcus, I do hope that you are feeling better. When the back gets that screwed up it sometimes takes me a week of treatments at the chiropractor. It got HOT today. My thermometer in the pickup said 98 coming home from the track meet. One of the reasons I came down to work on my computer, in the basement. Have a great rest of the day. |

OK the butterfly is open. When it closes and the choke is off, it dies. Isn't there an easier way, Can't I just tap somethinhg with a hammer or screwdriver? How about if I let the hole lawnmower soak overnight in a tub of carb cleaner? Would that help? I could just do like I did today and let it run with the choke held on. I probably will only need the lawnmower for 20 minutes every couple of months. I'll put tearing down the carb on my list. |

Welllllllllllllllll. T, it depends on the carb. Some have a butterfly for throttle and one for choke. Either both, or one(which is the choke) need to be fully open to run at the high (grass cutting) speed. Couple things you can try: Put some Stabil in the gas, and runn it. Or, pull the fuel line and spray a boatload (like 15 seconds) of carb clean in the fuel line. the motor will run fine on carb clean and it MAY remove the gunk. If that doesn't work, the carb's gotta come apart. They are very simple carbs, just clean them with carb clean, don't move the idle adjusting screws. Is this a small motor (push type mower)? |

Won't idle.
I have this automatic choke lever that gradually goes to the off position. It feeds fuel and the butterfly opens . As the fuel pressure from the priming stops so does the lawn mower. I think it is a gummy needle myself. I was being a lazy bastard and said to myself, Oh I'll use the lawnmower from time to time. I left the fuel in it with the fuel line open. The gas got old. I've been using my rider. The mower sat since August with almost a full tank. As usual, me not doing something means I have to do more now. |

Check for an adjuster screw in the carb, it will have a coil spring on it. Take a screwdriver and screw it in, counting the number of turns (should be like 1 1/2 or so). then screw it the whole way out, hit thet hole with carb clean. Put the screw back in until it lightly bottoms, then back it out the number of turns that you counted. Wish you lived near me, I probably could make some decent money. |
