I was stuck watching the Roger Clemens hearing this morning, but finally left for work.

I have not been following it, and it pains me to see our tax dollars pissed away on something like this, but it's probably the best way to try and sort out the truth when everyone is lying. And the other side of me enjoys watching people living in a fantasy world face the music that they aren't above our system, particularly when it comes to perjury. Because if you can't trust people under oath, the whole justice system fails.

The way I see it:

McNamee has zero credibility based on previous lies.

Clemens has zero credibility because he has everything to lose and will take the Pete Rose / Barry Bonds route.

McNamee has no credibility only because he was defending Clemens and others initially. The fact that he kept everything confidential with each of his 'customers', even with Pettitte and Clemens, gives him some integrity, unlike all the others involved with loose lips. I think his story now and his motives are believable, but not provable. So Clemens will probably get off legally, but be convicted by the media and deservedly so.

It's really a shame, but I guess exposing him is beneficial to the players that stay clean, and a good lesson for up and coming athletes that cheating won't help you.

It surprises me that McNamee is dragging everyone under the bus with him though. If he was already screwed, why didn't he just keep his mouth shut and take his hits and work a deal with these bigtime players to take care of him? Maybe he offered them that and they told him to piss off.

How come Sammy Sosa never got a congressional committee for his corked bat?

Then you must really be upset by the tax dollars spent taking Britney to the hospital. I heard $25,000 for that police escort...

Personally, I don't care anymore. I followed with interest when the Bonds scandal unfolded as everything I've ever read or seen on the guy indicates that he's a real asshole. I hated to see someone like that get such a huge record.

But it's like anything, dragged on way too long and apparently everyone is guilty. It's hard to care. I just go to pro sporting events for entertainment, much like going to a movie. It's getting as bad as the WWF.

I have been taking HGH myself and my lap times have not improved...I don't see that it's "performance enhancing" at all

Supposed to put it in the tank, not orally.

Guilty, but could care less. Steroids have been rampant in Baseball since the early 90's. Nobody cared until Bonds came along. And where the hell is he currently?

yes I think he took the "juice" as well as probably who knows how many others.... It is my personal opinion that Congress has a vested interest in this issue because of the ramifications..... Sports as it fits in the "big picture" is a great distraction for people. Get them involved, immersed in sports and people will not focus on how miserable their lives might be, their dead end jobs, the crazy taxes etc...

Now if it were shown that sports is not "pure and pristine" but played by people who are using performance enhancers or worse then people stop looking at sports and start looking at those other things I mentioned....and the government cannot have an unhappy populace....

That's my take on the conspiracy....

I think they're all just huge fans and want to be involved. If it was the NBA congress wouldn't give a rats ass.

probably.... though I like the NBA more than baseball.... can't imagine them having a congressional hearing on much there, except there was that referee with the gambling problem....

Yep, I don't think there's any doubt in my mind that he took steroids/HGH, and he looks like a fool for trying to deny it.

However, the drugs weren't banned by MLB at the time, so as wrong as it might be, poor example for kids, etc. he wasn't breaking any rules, so why the big 3-ring circus. Who really cares?

The best part is that he threw his wife under the bus. "Oh yeah, I wouldn't touch that stuff, it's bad.... but my wife took it for our SI swimsuit shoot".

What a tool.

These guys all knowingly took performance enhancers.

What is depressing is that Congress is wasting our time investigating Baseball. WTF!!!!

Next, they'll be sniffing the gas tanks of racecars!!!!

Roger is one of my 3 all-time favorite pitchers (along with Warren Spahn and Steve Carlton). Guitly or not, I will lost not respect for the man. If giant heads are a sign of steroid use, what about Ted Kennedy? Innocent until proven guilty!
