Good morning.

Take a moment to remember how it must have been on this day, December 7th, 1941. Salute.

War today is different than preceeding wars, though all wars require sacrifice. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a cheap shot that awakened the beast, mobilized a nation and changed the world. That spirit still lies deep in the heart of many Americans today.

Don't disturb the beast ............

Sugeng enjang.

This day always stirs up childhood memories. When I achieved consciousness, WWII was not far removed from the public's mind, and I often imagined what that horrific event must've been like. Having a chance to finally visit Pearl Harbor 5 years ago was every bit as somber an experience as I had expected.

Have a good day, everyone!

A day that shall live in infamey....

Every generation seems to have its infamey day....Pearl, the Kennedy assasination, 911 .......it would be fine for me if we didn't have to have anymore of those....the next one could be real ugly.

It is Friday and we are getting some blue spruce installed along the west side of the house. Nice 7 footers that I am already getting a drip tube set up for. It's dry as a bone down deep where the tree spade is taking out the dirt for the new tree. I will water until it just gets too cold but need to saturate the area around the root ball. I am also watering the lawn on the days it hits high 40's or low 50's.

I see now they are saying 2012 was the warmest year on record.....Matt did you ever get your air conditioning fixed on your car? I thought you said you did....if not you're going to need it as I don't see much break going into next year.....

Have a good day Guru's.....any wild plans going on for the weekend...?

If I got me a bottle of Jack they'd be it would be pretty damned wild. Or if I started talking Turkey. Wild Turkey that is ....... Ah, the olden days. I'm sure I had a couple of days that lived in infamey. You can't get away with now what you could get away with then.

Greetings CGs!

Been quite busy this last week between work, kids, life, etc. Wifey is at work today, RR#1 is at daycare, RR#2 just went down for a nap.

Just took some photos of RR#1's bed and mattress to put on CL. Wife wants to get her a queen size instead of a single. If we were smarter 2 1/2 years ago we would have just bought it then instead of a single. Oh well, live and learn.

Saw the back cracker yesterday for my free Xmas appointment. They sent me a certificate a few weeks ago, it is only good until the end of the month. I'll use it Brought him some cookies to say thanks.

Looking forward to my workout today. My diet the last few weeks is really getting me excited to work out again, I've shed a couple percent body fat and looking lean and mean.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Marcus - the a/c was fixed this summer. Too bad I can't drive it with the bad torque converter.

As far as the blue spruce, be very careful watering. My FIL killed two and my neighbor killed two by overwatering them. Make sure you don't cover the trunk with too much dirt, either.

Speaking of messy shops....that's right where the GS usualy sits...I am getting a new water line in from the well pit into the garage and then up along the main support beam over to the the office. The old line started leaking and was buried under 8 inches of concrete that would have to be dug up until they found the leak. No way was easy but since the shop is heated this will be better then messing with trying to fix the old line and messing with my driveway.

GS is outside getting sprinkled on.....

Hey guys...another busy day in paradice....yea, it's a crap shoot.

Much cooler than the last few days, but still not bad.

I remember my dad telling me about what he though about that day, back in 41. He was 16 (almost 17) and was ready to join right then and there. He had to wait another year but then joined the Army Air Corps. Flew his missions, in a B26 Marauder, over Europe and northern Africa, shot down over Italy, he and another crewman were the only ones to survive. Took him 3 days to work his way back to friendly lines.

Wouldn't get into another airplane the rest of his life. I think I can't blame him.

I wasn't around in 41, and used to wonder what it must have been like, but sadly nowadays I think we all can relate a little to the tragedy a sneak attack can cause.

Today I got my deposit back from the granite countertop clown I fired, and I found another guy that has a better matching stone, in prefab, and so his price is half of what I was going to pay the other guy. So the kitchen will be done, sans floor, next week!

I have talked with many veterans of the big one and heard a multitude of stories from Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, Austria,Italy, Poland, Iwo Jima, Bataan and a host of others. Fascinating. Many times the old soldiers won't open up to anybody but another veteran. I have talked with concentration camp survivors and seen the tatoos. Talked with civilians that survived bombings, gunfire and capture. I've heard stories of those that didn't make it out alive. The atrocities of war. It is one reason that I had the dedication to serve in service of the United States. What my country wanted of me I was willing to give.

And then I learned the rest of the story ........ I don't want to get into that though ......... Back the the 40's it was the world at war .........

Tommy you are right.....my dad would never talk about "the war", until the last couple years he was with us. And thne only because he went to some of his bomber group reunions and talking to some of his buddies from that time. My Uncle got him to write down some of his experiences. Totally amazing what he/they encountered.

I was so taken by video of bomber runs over Germany that I volunteered to be a tailgunner on a B-52. They changed the requirements and I became ineligeble. I tried to be a cargo plane loadmaster. They changed the requirrements and I became ineligeble. I ended up building bombs and maintaing munitions. Still supporting bombers and fighters but not in the air.

My Dad was the same way...only heard one or two stories...He flew B17's and B26's....24's?...I know he had bad dreams early on and he was always up late at night for years....He and all of us spent time on the Mission field in Brazil when we were little because he wanted to do something right for people after all the destruction he had been in on.....Lot's of bombing missions....He spent the rest of his life serving his Lord and trying to help folks out.......

Wait, did you say building bombs or getting bombed?

I mastered both. There's an old saying around the bomb dump. "By the time you hear the blast you're already dead."
