Good morning gang.
Where did the month go? 3 quarters down one to go. Well should be interesting today as we have had a little rain overnight and looks like we will get a few showers on and off this morning with the sun coming out later today. The big news is the cool down we should reach the upper 50's today. Looks like fall is here now. Let us kick the day off shall we. Word of the Day Tuesday, September 30, 2014 pandurate \ PAN-duh-reyt, -der-it, -dyuh-reyt, -dyer-it \, adjective; 1. shaped like a fiddle, as a leaf. Origin: Pandurate comes from the Latin pandūra , a three-stringed musical instrument popular in ancient times. Today is NATIONAL CHEWING GUM DAY Gum enthusiasts across the nation celebrate National Chewing Gum Day each year on September 30. People have used chewing gum for over 5,000 years. Various forms of chewing gum has existed since the Neolithic period. 5,000-year-old chewing gum which was made from bark tar, with tooth imprints in it, was found in Kierikki, Yli-li, Finland. The bark tar, from which the gum during that time was made, is believed to have antiseptic properties and other medicinal advantages. ◦Many other cultures chewed gum made from the resin of the mastic tree, from plants, grasses and other resins. ◦In 1848, John B. Curtis developed and sold the first commercial chewing gum which was called “The State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum”. ◦Around 1850, a gum made from paraffin wax was developed and surpassed the spruce gum in popularity. ◦December 28, 1869, William Semple filed an early patent on chewing gum, patent number 98,304. Celebrate National Chewing Gum Day by buying a pack of your favorite flavor of chewing gum and sharing it with your friends. NATIONAL CHEWING GUM DAY HISTORY Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Chewing Gum Day, an “unofficial” national holiday. NATIONAL HOT MULLED CIDER DAY Since the fall season has arrived, there is a little chill in the evening air, the trees are turning beautiful fall colors and leaves are starting to drop from the branches, it is the perfect time to celebrate National Hot Mulled Cider Day. Join along with the thousands of others that celebrate National Hot Mulled Cider Day each year on September 30. Hot Mulled Cider is a popular fall and winter drink that is made by heating cider to almost boiling and adding cinnamon, orange peel, nutmeg, cloves and other spices and then simmering it. Good Morning CGs!
I was pretty exhausted yesterday so I hit the sack early. Feel good and refreshed this morning. Taking a 1/2 day at work today so that in the afternoon we can take the kids to the pumpkin patch. Should be a nice time. Wife got some discounted tickets on one of the websites that offers deals. Can't complain about saving money. Kids always enjoy going. Marcus - two questions were raised the other day that I *know* you can answer. When you see the big rolled hay mounds on the fields...are those a special kind of grass? And second, what would it cost to purchase one of those if you had horses, etc? Hope everyone has a great day! Matthew |

Howdy! Kinda gloomy-looking out there at the moment, but I think it is supposed to clear up some. Definitely feels like fall, it was 42 this morning. And my ash trees are shedding leaves with abandon.
Have a good day, yawlz! |

GMCG's Doctors appointment this afternoon for a consultation on having the basil cell anomaly removed from over my left eye. Between now and then I'll do a few small chores. The weather gurus are calling for more moderate temps here next week. See it to believe it. Till then some rainy weather has been promised. Sue went into work today. She's on light duty. I told her she had to direct, not work. She's been pretty good about it so far but she's had some bouts with boredom. Well, let me see what I can get my mitts into. I'm not much for being bored either. About 6 weeks till we board the boat. Whoo-hoo! |

Capt. Mike thanks for the info you post....I always get a kick out of reading it......
It is raining here so I may have to head back to bed for my morning nap. Not much going on here at this time....my help is either out hunting elk or back helping with harvest so its break time for us.... Matt those are called round bales and will usually be made up of Alfalfa which is a good high protein feed for cattle or it can be prairie grass or other grasses like Timothy grass which are also used for cattle feed. The wieght of the bale will vary due to what kind of forage it is made up from but the average big round bale will usually wiegh around 1,300 to 1,600 lbs. and hay is usually sold by the ton around here and $80 to $120 dollars per ton is not unusual if it is top quality hay. In the good years when it rains and pastures produce well the need for hay is not as much as in the dry years. I have see it out here where the median and sides of the Interstate are cut and big round bales made to sell as cattle feed due to the shortage of hay. We can also bale corn stalks and soybean stover which along with alfalfa or grass hay will be put in big tub grinders and ground up to add with distillars mash from the ethanol plants to feed cattle in the feedlots. The ground up products produce the roughage the cattle need for their digestion.....Race horse hay is only the best fine stemmed alfalfas and will bring big money if you can keep the blister beetles out of it which can kill a horse if they eat to many of them..... At first the round bales were deemed illigal because they didn't give the cows a square meal......haaahahahahaha....I love farm humor..... Have a hay day Guru's....... |

Morning guys....Matt, I think I can answer your question. Those big round bails are Alfalfa, high protein feed. I think I heard a friend say the other day that it was selling for $180-200/ton. Those bails, IIRC, weigh about 1.5 tons.
First hour down, kids don't want to think. (tearing my hair out). Much cooler and cloudy today. Had a little rain shower last night. Supposed to have a chance for more the next couple days. |

I enjoy getting the day started during the week. Your never to old to learn something. As everyone has said Matt those are called round bales. Now Alfalfa is expensive and has to be planted every yr. so those are good for dairy cows. Beef cows don't care and they could be made up of timothy or fescue. Now if one owns a large herd of horsed you could feed round bales also as that would be efficient and horses like timothy. |

eye surgery mojo for Gris today -
all this talk of burning grass has me all nostalgic... saw some hemp protein powder in the doc's office yesterday among her other helpful products. Went to that total body wellness doc. She shot to hell everything I thought was doing right. Took 11 tubes of blood from me for a bazillion tests, looked at my toes and told me I had estrogen issues, figured there were others based on other observations, mentioned adrenal fatigue and really just made my head spin. Was in there four hours and 3.75 of it was talking to her. Wants me eating more fat, real butter, real milk, real sugar, no bottled water instead use a zero filter pitcher for perfect water, no frozen diners, eat fattier meat, quit buying the lean ground beef, eat fat chicken fat pork - the more fat you eat the more you lose, totaly bass ackwards of what I'd been doing. And, I'd lost another 10 pounds somewhere. And told me no more gym till all this is over with. And I have two month long lab things to do at home where I spit in these vials and mail them off. wow.... Healthmattersclinic.com I think might be her online addy... she was also one of my mom's docs... |

I wonder what the generations drank before us when they didn't have pure water filters? I think that's a bunch of hooey. There are minerals getting filtered out of the water. Pure water seems downright unhealthy. Of course you don't want arsenic, lead, chromium, mercury and a host of other excessive materials in there. A filter takes out the floride too. That explains it.
