Good morning gang.

Welcome to October. The leaves are starting to turn and sometime this month will be the peak fall foliage.

Should be a nice day today with sunshine and temps in the 70's.

Let's get today started.
Word of the Day

Wednesday, October 01, 2014

demesne \ dih-MEYN, -MEEN \, noun;

1. possession of land as one's own: land held in demesne.

2. an estate or part of an estate occupied and controlled by, and worked for the exclusive use of, the owner.

3.land belonging to and adjoining a manor house; estate.

4.the dominion or territory of a sovereign or state; domain.

5.a district; region.

Today is NATIONAL HOMEMADE COOKIES DAY

If you are looking for an excuse to bake some homemade cookies, eat some homemade cookies, take homemade cookies to work or to the neighbors, today is your day. October 1 is the annual celebration of National Homemade Cookies Day.

Can you smell them now? It may be chocolate chip, peanut butter, oatmeal raisin, monster, sugar or any one of the many homemade cookies baking in the oven that gives the home the wonderful aroma that makes your mouth water.

Many of us have wonderful memories of coming home to warm homemade cookies waiting for us with a glass of cold milk or going over to Grandma’s house to a plate of fresh homemade cookies on the kitchen counter. Those are wonderful memories that bring smiles to our faces.

NATIONAL HOMEMADE COOKIES DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Homemade Cookies Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL FIRE PUP DAY

In the United States, Dalmatians are commonly known as firehouse dogs.

National Fire Pup Day is celebrated each year on October 1. This day is designated to recognize our canine firefighters, the four-footed members of the fire department.

It all began when the use of Dalmatians as carriage dogs was transferred to horse-drawn fire engines. In the days of the horse-drawn fire carts they provided a valuable service, having a natural affinity to horses. The Dalmatians would run alongside the horses, in front of or beneath the cart axles and cleared the way for safety. Even though the horses are long since gone in the fire houses, the Dalmatians, by tradition, have stayed.

The Dalmatian today serves as a firehouse mascot and is sometimes used to educate the public in fire safety.

Dalmatians are often chosen, as a pet, by many firefighters in honor of their heroism in the past. Click on the photo for some great fire pup stories!

HAPPY NATIONAL FIRE PUP DAY !NATIONAL FIRE PUP DAY HISTORY

Our research was unable to find the creator or the origin of National Fire Pup Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Mojo to Gris for his eyes getting better.

Good Morning CGs!

Well we had a good time at the pumpkin farm yesterday. Kids enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately the hot dogs were not good and sort of made us sick, but we got over that. Despite that we will still chalk it up as a win.

Cool here, the fall weather is really showing. Nice to sleep with the windows open a crack and get that cool breeze. I don't even need a swamp cooler.

Pirate Gris, I hope you're feeling better.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Does anybody take anything seriously here? Simply, No!

Good morning

I scheduled the MOH surgery the day after I get back from vacation. I was sitting in the doctors office and he ran through a series of questions. Lastly he said "Let me ask you a question. Would you go to your pulmonologist with a cigarette hanging in your mouth?" I looked at him squarely and said "Maybe". He said "Most people would have said no." This is why I asked. Being a dermatologist and surgeon Why do you come to my office with your face all red? He was thinking it was from the sun. I always wear sunscreen and a hat when I go out. I told him it was my blood pressure, which it was. I flush when I get around people of authority, pretty women and others. All those little capillaries on my face are close to the surface of the skin. They fill with blood giving me the appearance of a sunburn. I don't even know it till they tell me. Then I'm embarrassed about that. That's a hand me down from my Irish/Hungarian heritage. People always think I've been out on the boat and sunburned. Oh well.

Howdy! Another gloomy-looking day out there. Today our sprinkler system gets shut down, so the end is near. Congrats to the Royals - hope they have a successful playoff run!

Have a good one, Gurus!

THE SUN IS SHINING ON THE NATIONS THIS MORNING, RAIN TONIGHT THEY SAY.

EYE IS IMPROVING, STILL FOGGY/HAZEY. DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED OR NOT. GOT A PO FOLLOW UP THIS AFTERNOON, MAY FIND OUT SOMETHING THEN.

TOMMY, I'M WITH YOU; JUST WALKING IN A MEDICAL ESTABLISHMENT CAN MAKE MY BP GO UP. SPENDING A YEAR IN THE HOSPITAL 1967-68 MAY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH THAT :-0

Nice day here, rain due in tomorrow. I have a Mack truck to measure for a wrap tomorrow, they think a rainy day is best since they won't be using it then. No consideration for me trying to be out in the mess with a printed paper writing on it getting wet measuring the thing.
Long day here today, nothing to work on and it's only 10:30. I'm done with that Pet Calendar for the paper except the ad lady of course has her end all screwed up as usual. It was due off to the printer today and she's one ad short. 13 months and a back cover, makes 14 I need not 13. She ALWAYS does this, I HATE working with her.
Gris I'm glad your eyes are on the way to better visions of sugar plums...
