I didn't know states had state dinosaurs either...

Mo. Lawmaker Touts 'Bud' As State's Beer

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A state lawmaker wants to give the ''King of Beers'' its own kingdom by making Budweiser the official beer of Missouri.

Budweiser is a Missouri-based international icon that -- if officially recognized -- might even persuade more people to visit the state, state Rep. Curt Dougherty said Friday.

''We've got a state dinosaur, a state frog, a state reptile, a state flower, a state nut, but no one has given a thought to a company that's been in Missouri for many, many years and is bringing prosperity to our state and manufacturing a product in our state that many people enjoy,'' Dougherty said.

My favorites are Michelob when I'm feeling ritzy and Natural Light most other times. I also love Rolling Rock when I'm in the mood for it. Many others too are always considerations when someone else is buying.
I don't know if NC has an official state beer. But these are my official state beers. For enjoying the State of Intoxication, that is.....

Interesting topic.
I'll try to keep this short.

I live outside of Milwaukee, which used to be known as "The Brewing Capitol of the World" 35 years ago.

Schlitz, Blatz, Pabst, Miller, plus quite a few smaller brewers were still operating here during my childhood.
Wi. had quite a few other large/medium size brewers also; Old Style/Hilelemann's, Steven's Point brewery-Point Beer, Linenkuegals- which is now owned by SAB/Miller

As the late 70s, early 80s approached, they started to be bought up by larger brewers, or just plain went belly up.
The only Brewer left in Milwaukee today is So. American owned Miller, which still has it's corporate headquarters here, but there's a fairly good chance that the HQ will be relocating to either Golder, Co., or Chicago, Il. That will probably happen soon after Miller and Coors gets Federal approval of their proposed merger (So they can be a larger Corp. than Anhieser Busch)

A few of my boyhood friends' fathers' worked for the breweries back in the 60s and 70s. I remember seeing stacks of beer cases, the returnable glass types, in all thier garages/basements. The Brewery would give each worker a case of beer a week, plus they got beer breaks twice a day while on the job- 1 12 oz. bottle per break.
Those perks are long gone nowadays. So are all the breweries except Miller. There's still a few Micro Brewers in the downtown restaurant area, but those don't really count, do they?

I like trying different beers. If I just want a lite beer I usually go with Miller Lite or Coors Light. Dark or red beers are my favorites but fill you up fast. Personally, I drink more bourbon than anything.

Does Miller still provide a lot jobs? Even w/o the perks? Or did all the jobs go away too?

A search of their Corp. site says the original factory/Corp HQ 950 employees.

Still going strong as far as I can tell, but stagnant on exspansion, and they still have tours which end in the Hospitality Bar, where they serve free samples of beer (8 oz cups, I think they give each adult tour-goer 2 tickets for beer, soda for the kids)

I know the Heineken factory tour in Amsterdan also has samples at the end. The cost of the tour is a donation. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

WOW! Beer breaks while on the job!

Now theres a story your grandchildren will never believe.

I dont think our state has a stale beer. Lots of stale wine but not beer.

Not really a State beer, but there is a small brewery in central NC - Red Oak. A deep red beer. Seriously excellent stuff but as stated, very filling.

Of course, here in Arkansas, for most rednecks, most any beer will do. I like Bud, Miller Lite, Corona and Sam Adams Cream Stout
