Thought I'd share these with everyone. Here are some pics of the DeLorean my parents bought a couple of years ago. There's no flux capacitor, sorry. It doesn't require plutonium or 1.21 jigowatts of electricity for time travel, I was very surprised when I saw it for the first time in my parents' garage. To say it was a surreal experience is bit of an understatement. I'm still kind of in disbelief, but it has mostly sunk in to my brain that there is a DeLorean in the family. Btw, i don't know why when you click on the pics that it says the photos have been deleted, but here's a link to the full size and additional pics. http://s4.photobucket.com/albums/y142/vetteusa/The%20DeLorean/

If you're gonna build a time machine, why not do it with some style?

God I love those movies!

These cars never really lit my fire, mainly due to the anemic power-plant. But they're cool nonetheless, and they're a very unique chapter of modern Americana.
An LSx transplant would sure bring it up to date in a hurry!
Did you know there's an outfit that owns the entire inventory of NOS parts for these? For a fee, they'll remanufacture the car to as-new condition. Pretty cool when you think about it. Their inventory is vast from what I understand.

Maybe Tommy was referring to the Cocaine Bust that ended
DeLorean Motors and which is attributed by some as playing
"an important role in destroying the Lotus brand."

For those didn't know him but who are inclined to think ill
of John DeLorean, there is this to think about. Henry
Yunick considered DeLorean a close personal friend long
before, during and after the '82 bust in LA. It is
DeLorean who narrated the audio version of Yunick's book.

More Sex, Lies & Superspeedways
Publisher: Carbon Press (2003)
ISBN: 0972437843

Something I didn't know until today is that apparently
Yunick owned a DeLorean that he received for evaluation in
1981 and which was offered for sale as part of his estate
after he passed away in 2001.

VetteUSA, the car your parents own looks like a very
nice example of the DeLorean. There must be a story
- can you share more of how they came to acquire it?

If I remember correctly, I believe that it belonged to one of my father's coworkers. It's not that exciting of a story. Resized Image. Honestly, I'm still puzzled as to why they bought a DeLorean. For quite a few years they had been throwing around the idea of getting a weekend toy, but it was usually the idea of getting a Corvette. They came very close one time to buying a C3, but they never did. The DeLorean thing came out of the blue to me, and to my siblings. None of us had any idea they wanted the time machine. I don't know if they had been thinking of getting a DeLorean, or if it just happened to be an opportunity they couldn't pass up. When I asked the very same question as you(My question was "Why a Delorean?") I was merely told that they had always liked the DeLorean, and they kind of left it at that. Resized Image I guess it was the right timing, right price, right mileage (only 16k miles), and was in nearly mint condition.

But I'd like to think that I had a little something to do with the decision. Ever since I was 4 or 5 years old, I wanted a Corvette, it had always been a dream of mine. The dream finally came true 3 years ago, at the beginning of 2005, and coincidently the DeLorean was purchased a year and a half later in mid 2006. Resized Image Perhaps it was just a coincidence, or maybe they figured if if I could buy the car I was passionate about, then they could too. But if you can get a fully detailed answer out of them, please let me know. Resized Image

The biggest problem with the DMC? Not enough power.

They have a rep for being rather well built, really. I have seen/read of many with well over 150k miles on them.

I haven't seen that particular link, but that's not a bad price compared to what the guy at bttfparts.com wants for a fully assembled flux capacitor, $500. If my parents ever decide to build a time machine out of the DeLorean, i'll show them the link you provided.

I wasn't aware they had a rep for good build quality, that's good to know. Usually people just talk about the power and they leave it at that.

Maybe they bought it so they could go back in time and reminisce.
