I missed band practice yesterday because my 86 wouldn't start. Long story short... The bolt that attaches the battery cable to the battery was stripped and not making a conncetion. No wonder it wouldn't jump. But once it warms up again here I can put some go-fast-goodies in there and make up for the lost time.

Anyone else ever spent $100 before realizing the problem was a $5 fix?

Sorry to hear about that...

As far as spending $100 for a $5 fix...how about thinking you're doing an upgrade only to find out you've created a problem???

That's what I just corrected. An upgrade gone wrong

I am so glad my car appears to be all original. The more I read, it seems like the smart thing is to leave it alone.

But I do really want to screw with the exhaust and install the Hurst shifter...

Hopefully that won't cause any issues.

Other than that, a new stereo, and maybe a 4:10 rear. Neither of which should be TOO problematic. I just can't bear the thought of drivability issues for the sake of a couple horsepower. It's fast enough for me.

CS,

none of the thing you plan will do anything bad.. onlything is to BE SURE whomever sets up the 4.10 know what he is doing.. Shifter and Exhaust are simple

If a $1 battery bolt was my biggest problem, I would have it made.
Try paying $7,000 for a motor and have it blow up on the dyno.
Or, spend 5k for a new paint job to have the guy at work back into it and do $3,000 worth of damage, then get dicked around by the insurance company for 8 months because they try to assign fault to a corvette that is parked and locked in a proper parking spot.
Either 1 of those is a slightly bad day.

No matter what I say, I do think it's fun to diagnose the problems. Then I don't feel bad about leaving my signature once it's fixed.
