Is it just me, or did anyone notice that there's much less traffic on the roads? I realize that school is out now but there must be 50% less traffic on the roads, when I go to work, than last month.

For the most part, there is no public transportation down here, so where's all the cars? Cost of gas do this?

Could it be demand destruction. Driving in the U.S. is down 5% in the last 60 days.

Congress, today, is trying to put together a bill keeping speculators from trading essential commodities. (crude oil)
I wonder how far that will go.(corn, wheat, cattle, soybeans, pork bellies etc.)

No difference here. Must be all the snowbirds flying north for the summer.

I don't blame them. Hot as hell and real humid.

Heard on the news this morning that gas is predicted to top at $4.15 this summer, and be around $4.00 a gallon for most of next year.

I'd like to think that something will bring it down a bit further. But not so much that we forget about being raped, and stop looking into other alternatives.

But I am noticing less traffic. It's actually shaving a few minutes off my commute. I like it!

The basics out there are: Wind (windmills)(676 ordered from GE), Coal (coal gasification), neuclear, solar and ethanol. What am I forgetting?

How about drilling?

Oil is not fossil fuel. Or maybe there were dinosaurs and vegatation on Titan?

http://www.astrobio.net/news/modules. ... News&file=article&sid=902

There are many scientists that believe oil is generated by a yet to be understood process within the planet.
Oil is not evil. Oil vents into the sea everyday from fissures on the ocean floor. The oceans seem to handle this just fine.
Oil wells that have gone dry and were left alone have been found to have oil in them. It's not like a 500 million bbl field dried up and totally replenished. But, for oil to appear in a dry well goes against conventional fossil fuel theory.
I do agree with Chris, we shouldn't strive to get oil down to a level that we just forget alternatives and people don't conserve. But, we should drill and moderate the price so people can get to work, and don't go hungry.

Some people think that drilling will ruin the earth and are more concerned with a small species of birds or fish than concerned with people.

It's a hot button issue for me. I see those people as incredibly self absorbed. They want to tailor the entire planet to fit their vision of how things should be.

My view is drilling is fine, there is oil here, it has a use, let's use it. And don't even bring up global warming... that scam makes my blood boil. (Hmmmm... so in a sense, it's real? Dale warming?)

I was riding the subway, but with traffic thinning out, I decided to commute in my Hummer.

I'm hoping it'll get up to $8/gal and there'll be virtually no traffic, then I can drive my hovercraft finally...

Nuts to the Hovercraft, I'm trying to get my teleporter working - who needs oil? I'll zap you where you need to go!

OK, you might arrive with some body parts in the wrong place, but we're working the bugs out of the system......

Traffic seems a bit thinner. But what I have noticed the past couple of weeks is people driving slower. In the left lane. And it's pissing me off.

That's fine, I already have a fly head. What's an extra arm or two to save time?

BTW I hate windmills, they kill birds. If they killed birds that tasted good it would be another story. But pigeons taste like crap.

That's more a testament to our aging population than gas prices...

They should build a senior lane. I bet it would reduce traffic injuries, increase deaths, and decrease health care costs.

yeah but a lot of high-schoolers don't have cars yet. Probably not a high enough volume to make a difference.

Damn, I'm on FI-YA today!
