How much will change? All the parts have been made there already, and some assembly goes on there, doesn't it?
Just a different signature on the paycheck, and a lower wage. Borders might open, and domestic plants might re-tool for chinese labor to come in on labor visas. Like IBM/Lenovo? |

Hmmmm....a toyvette? I dunno.
The biggest problem with the Chinese produced items is they have no QC and their finished products are mostly junk. The Japanese seem to have much higher standards. I guess we'll have to see how things play out. With the stock market being shaky they could stand to pick up a substantial portion of either company for a good deal. Might stabilize things a bit if they have some money to pump into the system. Matthew |

100% on the chinese no QC problem - my buddy is an engineer and he says that when they finally deliver the right prototype(after usually sending 3 or 6 wrong ones) they stay in spec for a couple months until the machines start wearing out and they keep pumping them out and the parts get farther and farther away from the original specs.

My dad is a journeyman toolmaker and machine builder for a UAW shop (or was until recently). He was telling me a true story about a Chinese engine plant. They bought all the tooling, set up the machines, everything was installed properly, blah blah. All engines produced lasted 10 hours before needing a rebuild. Reason why? Once they bored out the block, engine components, etc, they never even cleaned them off before assembling. Drill out a hole, put it together with the shavings still on it. Wow. Worst thing is they didn't care. As long as they were building them they didn't care how long they lasted. That's the type of QC and pride they have in what they build. Matthew |

NEW 2010 CORVETTES ON SALE
At your local Harbor Freight. Here it is going together, too. This will absolutely be the end of the automobile as far as we are concerned.. |

That threat alone will be enough to keep them US owned.
We, as a nation, cannot afford to lose our automotive legacy. |
