Did anyone see the custom 1993 vert that sold about 20 minutes ago?
It was black, with a YELLOW rub strip... all the way around... All YELLOW! And YELLOW interior. It had a 383 LT1, with a blower. Looked like a 6spd car. It sold for somewhere north of $20k. The rims were SWEET. light grey magnesium. Very nice. The YELLOW was just over the top for me. |

That's really cool Bogus, but you missed the real 1989 ZR1 that passed over the block 2 hours ago. This car was incredible!!!! I wish, I wish, I wish i was rich!

I love auctions but the kicker is when you win at say 30k, you have to pay a 10% buyers premium = 33k plus tax. In Fl that would be another $2310. Out the door at $35310. That's why I always lowball anything at auction. If I don't win something.... I think of how much money I saved. |

Like the blower
Be better if the scoops feed an intercooler or ... something. |

Hhmmm. C4s are holding their value. At least when it's an 89 Snake Skinner.

Wow, judging by the prices on that site I'm amazed most of it sells.
I can understand the uber-rare cars selling, but $10K for a '98 buick? |

As much as we lambast the Pinto, how many still exist? It's a piece of [bad] history. Hell, even AMC Pacers are showing signs of collectibility. In short, anything that survives becomes a snap shot of the time it was built. That makes it valuable. Just because something was mass produced (tens of thousands) doesn't mean they all die... And those left are rare. It's reason #1 why muscle cars became so damned valuable. It's also why a car like j3studio's '85 is a future cash cow. Sure, the C4 was very mass produced - some 360k - but how many are still that original? How many have the appropriate awards? That is how it works... |

Most were destroyed. Most were used for other programs, the Snake Skinner and a few others. You have the Geneva car (Yellow) which is at the NCM. One was used as a race car. They are out there, but most were destroyed. |

Allow me to define "destroyed." And why.
They were crushed. The few survivers simply were not crushed properly. Why. Automakers are stuck with insuring its product after completion. They cannot get around it. This is why the EV1 was halted. GM could not sell it "as is" because all it takes is one mechanical failure on the road and GM is liable for it. The same thing applies to prototypes. They are not legal cars. They are built only to prove points and provide empirical data. They are crude... their engine controllers, for example, are hardwired and may be the size of a VCR or something. There are wires everywhere, hooked up to telemetry computers, so they can capture that empirical data. And the drivers, but sake of being employed in this business, do not hold the company libel... |
