I saw the bird thing and thought it was bs, because I've seen videos where they get sucked in the engines and shoot right out. But there was a link on the page, check this out:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/howbirdscandownajetairplane Quote: A 12-pound Canada goose striking an aircraft going 150 mph at lift-off generates the force of a 1,000-pound weight dropped from a height of 10 feet, according to Bird Strike Committee USA. My first thought is, wow, that's a lot of force. My second thought is who the F is the "Bird Strike Committee USA" and how do I get a job there! Could you imagine that conversation after work? "Hi honey, how was your day? Oh, good, shot some birds at a plane, you know, same ol' same ol'" At least everyone was safe, most important thing. Matthew |

Of course you've all heard the 'chicken gun' joke, the chicken gun being the device they used to fire chickens into the jet engine in the video above
Tester: "We can't get the engine to pass the test" Engineer: "thaw the chicken 1st" I also heard this true story while up a Pratt Testers put the frozon chicken up on the gun to thaw before firing as they go to lunch. After coming back they fire the gun and look at the high speed photos. Sure enough the chicken hits the blades and gets chopped up... ... followed by a cat, which evidently decided to have lunch as well. |

That pilot knew his business - on the other hand, if you can fly F-4s, you can fly anything...
