All over the TV right now

Quote:
NEW YORK -- A US Airways plane has crashed into the Hudson River, sending passengers fleeing for safety in the frigid waters.

New York City firefighters, federal transportation officials and an armada of boats were responding to the accident. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.

"I just thought, 'Why is it so low?' And, splash, it hit the water," said witness Barbara Sambriski, a researcher at The Associated Press.

The plane was submerged in the icy waters up to the windows, and rescue crews had opened the door and were pulling passengers in yellow life vests from the plane. Several boats surrounded the plane, which appeared to be slowly sinking.

"I saw what appeared to be a tail fin of a plane sticking out of the water," said Erica Schietinger, whose office windows at Chelsea Piers look out over the Hudson. "All the boats have sort of circled the area. ... I can't tell what's what at this point."

Mayor of NYC is announcing "as far as they know", some taken to one side, some to the other, they're all safe!

I saw the bird thing and thought it was bs, because I've seen videos where they get sucked in the engines and shoot right out. But there was a link on the page, check this out:

My first thought is, wow, that's a lot of force. My second thought is who the F is the "Bird Strike Committee USA" and how do I get a job there! Could you imagine that conversation after work? "Hi honey, how was your day? Oh, good, shot some birds at a plane, you know, same ol' same ol'"

At least everyone was safe, most important thing.

Of course you've all heard the 'chicken gun' joke, the chicken gun being the device they used to fire chickens into the jet engine in the video above

Tester: "We can't get the engine to pass the test"
Engineer: "thaw the chicken 1st"

I also heard this true story while up a Pratt

Testers put the frozon chicken up on the gun to thaw before firing as they go to lunch.

After coming back they fire the gun and look at the high speed photos.

Sure enough the chicken hits the blades and gets chopped up...

... followed by a cat, which evidently decided to have lunch as well.

What! Did the cat jump into the turbine blades? What did the engineers eat for lunch?

A 19lb Thanksgiving turkey striking my dinner fork going towards my gullet can generate the force necessary to depress my bathroom scales 10lbs, according to my Diet Committee.
