I've used H&R block and turbotax in the past, but now those f'ers want $60-$80 just to file state and federal returns.

They have a whole list here, but I guess I'm a little skeptical about giving all my information to some website that looks shadier than online traffic school.

http://www.irs.gov/efile/lists/0,,id=101223,00.html

I have to do the regular 1040. They have all these lies about "free" efile, but then they charge you $40 to use the software, or others say "free software" but charge you for submitting it to the irs.

The government doesn't charge for efile, but unfortunately those goons don't have their own software.

What are you guys using? Gimme my money bitch!

I've been using TaxCut since the early 90's.

Quit talking about taxes - you're harshing my buzz. I wasn't even going to think about them until we get back from vacation. :-P

Talking about taxes should be fun unless you're self-employed.

Its amusing that people put off filing until the deadline even though most get money back.

I've never bothered with the software. I keep a folder for the 1099's etc. so all the paper is in one place. It takes me 20 minutes to fill out everything.
Mail transet to the IRS is one day.

I'm already done for this year.

I just have my accountant do mine. But since I used to work there, I don't pay for it

I thought the turbotax, etc was around $30-40? It's just if you want to efile it costs more through them. Or you could just DL the forms for free from the irs.gov and send it snail mail.

Still waiting for my w2s and then I'll be all set and waiting for my $$$$$$.

Most can't even balance a bank account.

I'm getting $150 back from the irs. Beat that.

I normally pay to efile because you get your money within a few weeks instead of a few months. But for a $150 return, it isn't worth it.

efile is free from the IRS.

Turbotax is charging you for using the software. It's like this dozen of eggs I'll give you for free, but the carton costs $4.

We used to have the free tax work done by the irs office here but they have an income limit and we evidently made too much, nice program where they do your taxes then set up direct deposit or mail it to you, all free. Well, we then started using Taxslayer (last six years). They do all the paperwork for fed and state. Then if you want to mail it just transfer the numbers to the appropriate tax forms and send or if you want it fast give them $20 and they efile it and it will be in your account 7-10 business days (they will tell you the IRS's direct deposit schedule) but here in Michigan it may take longer for the State to give up the funds. I have no problems with them. My 2 cents.

I may try them, they were cheap but I hadn't heard of them before.
