We just got back... had a quick bite... I need to shower then process todays pictures.

Got a lot of great shots!

The Corvette Corral was VERY well attended this year. I would guess about 100 Vettes were there!

I even won a prize at the Corral! A cute little desk box thing from Corvette Racing, autographed by the 4 team drivers in attendance this weekend.

Pictures are now done!

Here we go!

Lotsa pictures...

Some of the pics are outta order.

I brought a couple of different Flash cards... and one was like full or something... so when I started the uploads, they got out of order.

Pic 1 - Tires, anyone? These are all Michelin gumballs for the C6.r

Pic 2 - Kinda outta order... A picture from the Corral. I am guessing about 100 Vettes!

Pic 3 - Bastet44 checking out a tribute C6.r. This car is covered in detail in Corvette Magazine (IIRC).

Pic 4 - Ron Fellows giving a tech discussion. Check my thread "Ron Fellows Tech Discussion."

Pic 5 - Jan and Johnny. Jan making strange face. In all honesty, I had asked them to "at least look like you're having fun!"

Pic 6 - In the Corral tent area. These are the front ends of the new Commemorative Corvette, honouring Corvette successes in GT1.

Pic 7 - The starting grid. LeMans psuedo start.

Pic 8 - Johnny's C6.r. The car died in the race and I don't know why.

Pic 9 - The lone C6.r, the last team standing in GT1, in it's last US race (it's last race will be LeMans in June and the GT2 car is released at Mid-Ohio in August) takes its last checkered flag.

The race is tomorrow on ABC, tape delayed. Check your local listings.

Cool pics!

A co-worker of mine was damn close to going to work at Pratt & Miller at one point but, decided not to. Too damn cold in Michigan!

Their cars are very well prepared. Some of the nicest of the series by far.

uh, wait a second... your friend... I assume he lives in Vermont, did not move to Michigan cause it is too cold.

The point would have been that he could have spent time in Sebring in Jan thru March, then LB in April... I don't get his decision making process. Very flawed.

yea! That's why I didn't go into detail regarding the race itself.

We do intend on watching it to fill in the blanks. You can't get all the info in real time at the race. Rather sad, really... but that's the way it is.

It was a good time at the race. Great weather (actually a little warm while seated in the stands), high attendance for the ALMS race, and all around everyone seemed in a good mood.

SPOILER!

Quote:
LG Motorsports;
Hi guys.

boris was wearing his own suit from when he and Dale Jr drove together at Infineon-----where Dale Jr crashed and CAUGHT ON FIRE.

I guess the suit was jealous and felt left out.

The cause of the fire was from the hit with the BMW that bent the exhaust pipe and directed the hot exhaust toward the carbon fiber rocker panel and started it on fire. That only got bigger and it burned a high pressure fuel line that burst and caused what you all saw.

Boris is burned on his arms and eyes. Time will heal them but he will have a few weeks in pain and I am sorry for that.

Luckily he ran the car into the run off area where corner workers were standing right there and they stopped the fire quickly which limited the damage but it is still severe and probably out of reach for us in the near future to repair.

We could use a "Bailout" :D

Thanks

LG

With about 5 minutes remaining in the race at Long Beach, the LG Motorsports #28 Corvette catches fire. Driver Boris Said was able to bail and is okay. The fire was believed to be caused following contact with one of the BMW M3 that spun out both cars.

He looked sunburned. A real bad sunburn around the eyes.

It was stressful... I didn't see him get out initially, and the replay was really hard to watch... it took him FOREVER to get out.

LOL true he's in VT for now but, he decided that he's had it with the cold all together. he's probably going to end up in San Diego or possibly Phoenix.

Yea, looked like he didn't even have a chance to pop the bottle.

But that's better than Dale Jr. who said he didn't even know where the switch was.

LG Motorsports;
Boris told me today that he looks like a "Super Model" now

He did have his visor up. As most of you know, the exhaust got bent and caught something in the right rear on fire, which got to a fuel hose and burst into flames.

Because the ECU will turn off the fuel pump when the engine stops running, it turned off the pump and did not have more fuel feeding it.

Lucky for sure. The corner worker pulled the fire system from the Driver's A pillar mount.

Thanks guys, and thanks for Boris.

We have the car apart already and we are sending out all the electrics and cleaning up the whole car.

It is not pretty but it will give us an opportunity to rebuild the car better than when we got it. It was never really finished and has always been over weight so we will work hard at fixing the problems at the same time we rebuild it.

This is a first for me in over 35 years. We have to find something good in here somewhere.

LG

I talked to Mike, one of Lou G.'s crew last week. He said that Boris came on the radio a half lap after the BMW hie and said he could smell fuel. After another lap, Boris said that he could hardly see. The crew told him to come in but he's a warrior and was asking how many minutes were left in he race.

The hit by the BMW pushed the carbonfiber bellypan into the exhaust and knocked off the vent line from the fuelcell. Fuel from this line was running into the bellypan.

Pics of Mike's C4 racecar are posted up in the roadracing section.

oh, man. that sucks. Talk about bad luck.

At the time of the fire, I figured it was a cooling system failure. Specifically, a differential or trans cooler spewing oil everywhere and a short causing a fire.

That damage is just wack... It seems to me like they need to find a better place to put that fuel vent line. I am not sure how they are going to do this, tho... Are the tanks still in the stock location or do they run cells in the rear hatch?

I didn't get to see the car at Sebring this year, nor at LB... Donno how I missed their pits either way.

Glad Boris is doing good, tho.

I haven't seen the GT2 up close. It's hard to tell where the fuel cells would be. The like that came loose is part of the refueling system. I didn't talk to Mike all that long because he was racing and I was crewing on a Nascar.

I figure the GT2's probably different from the C6R but you can see the typical GT1 cell location in the C4 T/A pics I posted. Note that the right cell has been converted to a fill cap for use with a funnel and 5 gal. jug. The refueling rigs are too cumbersome for a non-pitstop race.
