Good Morning CGs!

Well, it decided to rain last night quite a bit, but I still got my projects done. #1 on the list was to replace the headlight pull knob on the vette. For years it had some tacky chrome non-correct one and it's bothered me. Finally fixed it in about 8 seconds. Then I had to cut a support from a 2x4 for the peach tree since it has another heavy branch we were afraid would break off. After that I had to pause a bit due to the rain then I went back out and patched the hole in the pool. Even got in a quick swim with the rugrat. During the late evening we had very strong storms so I'm glad I got the tree branch support and pool taken care of.

How was everyone's weekend?

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Greetings! I got my round of golf in yesterday and stayed dry. Good timing, as it was pouring within a half-hour of getting home. I'm working from home today - we have to go to a funeral in a couple hours.

Have a good day, everybody!

Long one today, Got up yesterday and my wife started working on plans for my 55th B-Day party that's coming up. I figured , what the hell, I'll go rinse and wipe down the cars, early, while they still have morning dew on them. I get through the first car and she asks me if I want some eggs. I don't really but say yes to appease her because she going to make them anyway. Almost finish the second car and of course she calls me for breakfast. I tell her I'll be there in a minute. I have four wet wheels that need to be wiped. Stopping to eat in the middle of a mission can really break up the flow of progress. Well, I ate and got back out there pretty quickly before the my ass in this chair feels pretty good syndrome kicked in. Did the other two cars and went to see what she was up to. Still chattering away on the phone with people so I started working on my Yukon. I had painted a few touch up areas that had flaked through to the primer. Figured it would look better if I at least painted it the same color as the SUV ... white. I had done that on Saturday. I started cleaning up the rest of it. Around 11:00 she starts with the, Are you planning on working on that stuff all day? I said no, you haven't told me what you wanted to do. I was planning to work till around noon and just keeping busy. I had about three hours of work left and of course she tells me she want to leave at 12:30. A friend was going to join us. No way I could finish. She says to me ..... You have the rest of your life to work on that ..... She's right. LOL I packed it in at 12:00 Showered up and we headed for a nice trip to Marathon on the Keys, about a 1 1/2 hour drive. We stopped about half way to visit with our friends friend. A fiesty 89 y/o lady that lives on a really nice sized piece of property sitting on the Florida Bay. Beautiful, really beautiful. Million dollar view. We sat and chatted as she told us of some of her many adventures and world travels. She is one of those people you can listen to for hours. We left after a while and continued on to our original destination. My wifes crew had left a wheelbarrow on a job site in Marathon about 6 weeks ago. If we were lucky we could get the wheelbarrow before we headed for out late lunch. No such luck. The homeownwers were back in Texas and it was apparrently locked up in the garage. It cost more in gas and time than to make a mission of just retreiving the wheelbarrow, so we had the contingency in place. Go for a nice ride, have lunch and if we're lucky we would retrieve the barrow. We saw more of the bay and watched the seabirds and fish, especially the huge tarpon rolling and jumping around the dockside. Headed home after a nice seafood lunch at Florida Fisheries Restaurant. Got home around 6:30. Soon after wifey sprung and early B-Day surprise on me. She had contacted my sisters and mother and was trying to work out flight details from Tampa to Miami. Now , my mother is frail and 84 years old. I had a look of disdain on my face as I thought of the trials and tribulations of Mom trying to get to MIA on a Continental Turbo-Prop. I finally talkied everybody into forgetting any flight plans. Besides driving to the airport, going through security, flying, picking up the luggage and driving to the house would take longer than the 4 hour drive it is just to get from there to here. What if the flight got delayed? I was planning on going up for a visit anyway so looks like I'll be pulling a guru weekend next weekend. Leave Thursday. drive 250 miles, returm home Friday. Spend the weekend with Mom and family celebrating the double nickle B-Day party. Leave Monday or Tuesday for the return trip to drop off Mom, then return home. 1000+ miles for sure. This should be a lot of fun .........

Yesterday I went on a drive thru the N GA mountains with a group of 20 Vettes and about 10 Porches. It was poorly organized and we soon ended up split into several groups on different roads. Never even saw some of them again, but it was still a fun day. Saw another group on the siide of the road with a damaged C5 that slid off the road and messed up the front end, but at least no one was hurt.

Not much here. I got up yesterday and decided to wash the wife's car...it needed it pretty badly since I hadn't cleaned it since we went to KC for the 4th. Got it all washed and vacuumed out when the wife called me in for breakfast. Like you, Tommy, it was right in the middle of things and I hurriedly ate and went back out to finish it up. I laid a coat of wax on. I then started in on my pick up, allowing time for the wax to dry. The pickup wasn't too bad, just dusty really, so it was a rinse job mainly and a vacuum. Wiped the car down and then started in on the vette. It wasn't dirty really either but wiped it down and then gave it a coat of wax as well, our local car show is this coming Sunday, so I just got a head start on the primping. This took until about 4:30...a nice relaxing Sunday.

About the time I started to settle in and watch some TV, the phone rings and I need to go out to the shop and work on a table. I could have said to bring it in today but it was a small job that would take me about 30 minutes, so I decided to just do it and get it done and the people could take it home and out of my hair.

Today, I've been working on staining two of the projects that I have been working on in the shop, so I've been out there staining, 3 hours worth. I'll grab a bit and go back out. Tonight we have men's night at the golf course, so I'll head out there, bound to be hot.

We got our reservations for our class reunion party in August...not a mile-mark reunion, but for us all turning double nickle. Should be an enjoyable time.

Quick funny yet not so funny story. My wife kept asking me what I wanted to do for my birthday. I first said let's have a brunch at the Casino then after we can go play some cards for a few hours..... response from wife. Na ...... How about we have it at the local BBQ joint. Everybody can order and we'll pick up the tab. No fuss, no clean up ...... response from wife. Na .... She says "Why don't we just have it at home?" We do the food better and we can all just hang around here. I fussed, cajoled her and bucked the idea but told her if that's what she wants to do that's what we'll do. For my birthday I'll just sit on my ass at home and eat and converse with the visiting guests. Unfortunately that means I have to do all my regular chores plus take 2 days in the front and two days in the back to drive back and forth to Tampa. I like a clean house and yard when company comes over. So basicly I have to bust my ass double so I can stay at home and enjoy my birthday. Thanks a lot hun ..... thanks a lot. For my 60th I'll know better. When my birthday comes I'm gonna try and be in Quebec, Honk Kong or Tibet or maybe a cruise in the middle of the ocean but I don't want to be anywhere near home.

Sunny and hot after thunderstorms roared throught last night which means humidity is high. Did a small welding job for the school corp this morning and fabbed up some engine mounts for a 1953 Ford F100 and burned them in. Nothing like the smell of welding leathers in the heat and soaked in sweat.
It seems like the honey do list never ends, next project a gazebo.
Have a great day gurus.

My wife is planning ahead for my retirement next year. Which means a ton of work for me. I told her lets just go out to dinner and call it a day. Her retirement party took two days to prepare and with 65 guests I never had a chance to talk to anyone, too busy cooking on the grill. I agree I don't need to bust my ass for my retirement! Since most of our friends are teachers and profs they are kind of priming the pump about my party. I tellem never had a Bday, College grad, Master degree or welcome home party from Vietnam why start now!! No one is listening!

Some of the many reasons why I ignore birthdays.
