I took these this evening from the Corvette Corral before, during and after the the Corvette Parade Lap!
They got 2 laps in, and apparently hit about 90mph or so on the long straights. Enjoy! Pic #27 is interesting... Lemme see if I remember the history. The owner, Cindy, is a volunteer at the Corral. A real nice lady to does yeomans duty there over the years. The car started out as a 67 327 roadster. The original engine died at - get this - 440k miles! They then replaced that engine with a 502/502 ram jet and a 5spd conversion. At the same time, the rear gears were replaced with 3.08's or so (I think the originals were like 3.56 or something). The car now gets 24mpg highway! As the Parade Lap ended, the ALMS cars came out for night practice!!! How cool must that have been to be passed by the C6.r or the Audi.... or even the Ferrari or Puegeot!! I do like the Corral.
They are not all old geezers. There is a cross section of all ages and yes, with Vettes. Sure, there are a lot of folks there trying to inflate their egos with more bling than common sense. But that's their problem if they want to put some tacky stripe job on their brandy new C6. The community is still very strong within the Corral. And that is important to me. I highly recommend you do a modern Corral. They are fun. |

I don't know if I shared this last year or not, but... I won in a drawing, a 1/18th scale model of the C6.r that won Laguna Seca in 2005. The car was driven by "The Ollie's" - Oliver Gavin and Olivier Baretta.
At the time, I had missed out on getting an autograph, so I waited until Long Beach... arrived late for that, DAMN! So I tried one more shot... Sebring this year! And yes, I scored! The model is now signed. Next down... it's the headlight... Anyone remember the wreck in the pits last year? Well, they auctioned off the broken right front fender and left front headlight cover. All proceeds goto Motorsports Ministries. We were high bid on the headlight cover! So far, it is signed by Tadge, Doug and Harlan. I will get the drivers at LB next month. THIS is why I like the Corral... and I don't have hot pass access, so that is a bit unfair. I guess I need my SCCA creds...
