Good morning gang.

I hope all our guru friends and relatives are ok after yesterdays bombing. Speedy recovery to all those affected.

Today we had a thunderstorm role through this a.am. and woke me up instead of the alarm. Looks like we have rain all day with temps in the high 50's low 60's.

verisimilitude \ ver-uh-si-MIL-i-tood, -tyood \, noun;

1.the appearance or semblance of truth; likelihood; probability: The play lacked verisimilitude.

2.something, as an assertion, having merely the appearance of truth.

Origin:

Verisimilitude comes from the Latin roots vērum + similis literally meaning "likeness to truth."

Good Morning CGs!

Terrible thing that happened in Boston yesterday. I never understand what goes through someone's mind when they think "hey, I'm gonna go blow something up and try to hurt innocent people". I just can't comprehend that. I hope they find the person swiftly and some justice can be done.

Rain here today since the overnight hours. I believe we are expecting rain all week with temps in the 50s-60s depending on the day. Not too shabby.

Worked on finishing up the last part of the stairs/floors last night and got another coat on it. I will do some light sanding tonight and one more coat, then maybe it will be done. I don't know yet. I am debating whether or not I am going to sand all of the stairs and put a new topcoat of poly on them...it would look nice next to all the brand new stuff.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

So whadda you guys think? 4 ton unit and air handler with heat strip installed for $3840.This is from the guy that's been working on my A/Cs for over a decade. I might could get it cheaper (intentional language mangle) but that would be from people I don't know. That's why buying an expensive item is a crap shoot. Go with what you know or try to save several hundered bucks by playing outside the circle? My guy is coming by this afternoon. I'm gonna see is I can move him south a couple of hundred bucks.

Morning guys....Tommy, that sounds reasonable to me. If you read last nights last post then you know my GS hurt his knee at the ball game yesterday. He's hobbling around this morning but will be OK after a few days rest.

Matt, your right, I have no idea what goes through a mind like that.

I am just wondering what that ape is holding onto with his foot......nevermind......

Got my new Bridgstone Pole Position RFT's put on yesterday and the alignment set for long time tire life. I was sorry to take off the Invo's but really need to have Run Flats out here in the wilderness. I took them out for a brief drive and ran the car up to a buck twenty and held it there for a bit. Very solid at speed the alignment and balance seemed good. The tires do ride harder but I knew that was coming.....in all fairness it was 44 degrees out so they were cold and I have 32# of air in them. I will get used to it. Tread rating is a 280 which is about the best in a RFT that you can get for the GS's......My Nitto's were 220's. The tires I took off were still good with even wear and I figure about 10K miles on them.

Weather is bad very cold and we are slowly trying to get stuff done....the laws of nature dictate that it will warm up...it has too.

Have a good day Guru's....prayers for the unfortunate folks and their families who were injured or killed yesterday. May justice be swift on those who prey on the innocents.

A prayer your way also Brad for a return to good health...

The Man in the Moon Came Down Too Soon by J. R. R. Tolkien

There is an inn, a merry old inn
beneath an old grey hill,
And there they brew a beer so brown
That the Man in the Moon himself came down
one night to drink his fill.

The ostler has a tipsy cat
that plays a five-stringed fiddle;
And up and down he saws his bow
Now squeaking high, now purring low,
now sawing in the middle.

The landlord keeps a little dog
that is mighty fond of jokes;
When there's good cheer among the guests,
He cocks an ear at all the jests
and laughs until he chokes.

They also keep a hornéd cow
as proud as any queen;
But music turns her head like ale,
And makes her wave her tufted tail
and dance upon the green.

And O! the rows of silver dishes
and the store of silver spoons!
For Sunday there's a special pair,
And these they polish up with care
on Saturday afternoons.

The Man in the Moon was drinking deep,
and the cat began to wail;
A dish and a spoon on the table danced,
The cow in the garden madly pranced
and the little dog chased his tail.

The Man in the Moon took another mug,
and then rolled beneath his chair;
And there he dozed and dreamed of ale,
Till in the sky the stars were pale,
and dawn was in the air.

Then the ostler said to his tipsy cat:
'The white horses of the Moon,
They neigh and champ their silver bits;
But their master's been and drowned his wits,
and the Sun'll be rising soon!'

So the cat on the fiddle played hey-diddle-diddle,
a jig that would wake the dead:
He squeaked and sawed and quickened the tune,
While the landlord shook the Man in the Moon:
'It's after three!' he said.

They rolled the Man slowly up the hill
and bundled him into the Moon,
While his horses galloped up in rear,
And the cow came capering like a deer,
and a dish ran up with the spoon.

Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle;
the dog began to roar,
The cow and the horses stood on their heads;
The guests all bounded from their beds
and danced upon the floor.

With a ping and a pang the fiddle-strings broke!
the cow jumped over the Moon,
And the little dog laughed to see such fun,
And the Saturday dish went off at a run
with the silver Sunday spoon.

The round Moon rolled behind the hill,
as the Sun raised up her head.
She* hardly believed her fiery eyes;
For though it was day, to her surprise
they all went back to bed!

I have a sinus headache. It makes thinking tougher. My BIL called me up. He has tix to the Heat/Orlando game tomorrow night and asked me if I want to go with him. Don't really have a good reason not to go. Tip off's at 08:00 PM Guess that'll end around 11:00PM. Heading to the heart of the big city. Should be fun except for having to deal with the street urchins. My son just stopped by to talk about his job seeking progress or lack of it in my eyes. He doesn't see it but I think he suffers from analysis paralysis. My head ached throughout his entire visit. My headache is even worse now.
Waiting fot the A/C guy to come by. Screws up my free flowing efforts as I keep an ear out for the phone or a beep, beep in the driveway. Yesterday and today, I'm getting done a lot of nothin. Oh well, there's always tomorrow ....... but I can't wear myself out. I have a game to go to. Thursday has possibilities ... after I wake up from coming home late. Ya, maybe Thursday I'll get something accomplished. ......... Maybe not ........

Hey Tommy, I wouldn't start anything too big on Thursday. You will only have Friday to finish it up before the weekend. Doesn't sound good to me.

My company has initiated a new program of "cultures". We are supposed to live up to these "cultures" and will be evaluated on them next year. Now, you may ask, what are cultures ? No they do not grow in a petri dish (but I think they should.)

The "cultures" are:
Wow Customers – I am the customer experience.
People Powered – I develop, expect, and recognize excellence in myself and others.
Own It – I am accountable for creating solutions that achieve our key results.
Open Up – I seek out and provide direct and candid communication to drive our key results.
Build Bridges – I reach out across teams to achieve our key results.
Live It – I drive our vision to be the premier Enterprise communications and services provider.

Somewhere, someone is getting paid a bunch of money to dream this stuff up.

Sounds like you are overstaffed. Maybe they can stick the Culture Czar in the unemployment line and give everyone a 2% pay raise.

That will grease the wheels far better than any poetic bullshit.

Why a heat strip? Sounds like an energy hog. Hard to say if it's a good price or not as there are so many other options. It's like asking if a 4-door sedan for $20K is a good buy.

In my experience any hvac equipment with too many bells and whistles is not going to get installed right by the contractor, not even the guy who's been doing it wrong for a decade. So keep it simple and get a basic Weatherking or Bryant other contractor-grade line of the big boys.

I'm thinking like CC. Sounds like BS to me. Liberal, politically correctness, BS, they are paying someone to come up with motivational sh!t. Good luck with that.

Just like I tell my principal, leave me the f@#k alone and let me do what I was hired to do.

It doesn't actually say anything about doing any work. Remember when you got a job they wanted you to actually work? Now they feed you this bullshit. There's a button for that.

20 years ago the USPS came up with GIST.

Greet
Inquire
Suggest
Thank...

That was the start of the customer service nightmare.

The list grew from there, and if you didn't follow the the mandate, management would initiate discipline. The robotic approach to customer service had begun. The human factor was removed. It didn't matter if I knew the customer well, knew their wants and needs. The customer became a source of revenue. Sell, sell up, sell more. The pressure never ended as the revenue streams diminished. Like it was the our fault. Technology changed the delivery of the mail through the centuries. From courier, to stage coach, to trains, planes and now the computer. People don't write letters or send photos like they used to. They email them. They auto pay bills or pay them online. Every industry including advertising has reduced the amount of mail they send as the number of delivery addresses grew. I think we're way past the solution phase. Well that's all I have to say about that.

Now you go into a business and the employee asks; "How can I deliver excellent service to you today?"

Well you can start by acting like a human being. No human asks stupid questions like that of their own accord.

Research and feild studies will continue to come up with more new and stupid ways to do business. Socially the noose gets ever tighter around our throats to accept new norms.

All I can say is that this country is f@(%~d and we did it to ourselves.

Rant off .................

Tommy you're right. It has become the almighty dollar, screw "real" customer service. Kiss their a$$ and screw them right afterwards, by selling them something they don't need.

I went with a basic system. Not many bells and whistles. The system is rated at 16 SEER which isn't the best but a good standard for todays energy use. The heat strip is a simple element placed below the blower. We don't have severe winters here so a 10,000 BTU heat strip warms the house nicely on the colder days we get here in Florida. I wouldn't do without it. My blood has thinned since I've been down here and in Florida. When it dips into the 40's, we're freezing our asses off. I got a 4 ton outside unit which is just about right for the size of the house and the same size that we have now. My A/C guy is installing it on Thursday. I like simple. It's costing $3825. I asked for a better price but he said no,that's the price. I already knew that's what he'd say but I had to ask. If I wheeled and dealed and hunted around I could have done better but I know this guy. He always takes care of us. Whenever we have a problem, he's there. So I'm gonna pay a little more and stay with who and what I know. Rheem it is. This is my 4th Rheem system and really I haven't had a lot of issues wioth them. Sure, stuff breaks but the repairs are pretty affordable, Comes with a 10 year compressor and parts warranty so I can't complain. I just have to register it with Rheem and I'll be good to go. I'm gonna put the A/C temp on 70 Friday and see how the unit does. That'll be a good test. Temps around here now are already in the upper 80's. We usually like to keep it around 76* in the house during the long, hot, summer. This unit is coming in right on time.
