Good Morning CGs!

Snow is the word of the day...or week I should say. We have just gotten dumped on the past few days. Made the roads terrible yesterday. Next weeks high on Monday is a negative...is that possible...lol. The school already called and said class might be cancelled due to low temps. Crazy.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Plenty to do and if I can't find something to do I know some one that will find it for me. Cold front blew in over night. Low around 62 and a high around 71. Looks like I may have to wear jean pants and a long sleeve shirt over my t-shirt if I go out this morning. Bbrrrrr.

Morning guys.... Back to work for teachers today, students get one more day. I got a lot done the past few days. Tommy, you're right, I could get a lot done without teaching, but I'll miss quite a few things too. It's coming.....

Have a great day, Gurus.

Pahad ni agsapa!

They keep lowering the forecast for Monday - now they're saying high of -17. At some point it doesn't matter anymore. Yesterday there was a 150-degree difference between International Falls, MN and Key West, FL. We are saving a fortune on air conditioning.

Keep warm, Gurus!

I on the other hand start off in F.O. mode and build up to doing something. I have to go check on the pool at the other house so I think I'll take the 928 for a ride. Have a stop to make on the way back. Then Tommy Doubtfire has some work to do. My wife tore into the riding lawnmower at the nursery for the solenoid, air filter and some other thing. That's scaring me a little. I need to do an oil change on that lawnmower also. That's my day. Looks to be more than a full day.

Which brings up a sore subject with me. How come the enamel they sprayed on cars back in the day lasted decades and the so called clear coat protected paints break down after about 5 years. What a bunch of bullsh!t the car manufacturers have laid on the buying public. The car can last a decade but the paint is lucky it can last through the payments. The finishes fade, crack and chip and the plastic interiors deteriorate in front of your very eyes. Modern technology my ass ........... [/Rant off]

Those GM white cars from the mid 90's through the mid 00's was crap. GM knew they had a problem and didn't seem to care. Now with the new Corvette they've got problems with orange peel and don't seem to give a rats-ass about it. You'd think that they would be interested in making their flagship car perfect. But it just isn't so.

BTW Tommy, the Yukon looks good. We have one more day of nice before the crap hits again.

At some point (close to the Yukon's year) GM and some others switched to water based paint.
Back then, that paint wasn't all that good and they experimented with the primers to get the paint to hold up better (which it didn't).

The best water based paint these days comes from BASF and Sherwin-Williams (Mercedes uses BASF). It's a whole different deal.
The latest custom colors in water based are mind blowing and the clears are better than ever.

Back in the day - a lot of the paint was lacquer which can be "brought back" generally.

The repaints done today, for the most part are done with cheap paint cause owners don't want to spend the money, "U Get What U Pay For" applies.

The paint on the Yukon costs less that $100 per gallon, good paint starts at $850 per gallon for non metallics.

Yea, plastic sucks,,,,always has.

THIS GLOBAL WARMING IS HELL, ISN'T IT.

I DON'T RECOLLECT SEEING THIS IN THE NATIONAL SOCIALIST MEDIA:

Rasmussen Reports found that 68 percent of voters polled would feel safer in an armed neighborhood. Just 23 percent said they'd feel safer in “a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun.”

WONDER WHY?

Woke up to frost everywhere here today - headed to 7 tonight I think - I'm not made for this crap. Work till noon, then some errands to run. Still sifting through tasteful porn for that trailer wrap I'm working on which reminds me, I need to stop by Vikki Secret and purchase a couple of things I'm needing... oh and don't hold yer breath but me thinks I have a dinner date tomorrow night.. oh yeah, he has a job - there's a good start ...
Happy Friday ya'll

Bean counters and the fact that Corvette is a cheap sports car.

I remember seeing Ultimate Factories with the C6. They were going on and on about the high-tech spray booth with sealed entry and no dust...........but you could see the orange peel as the paint was applied.

This is why really good, flat paint jobs start at $10k.
Painters doing this spray multiple test panels to look at color application and to do setups to avoid orange peel (has a lot to do with the reducers and the atmospheric conditions).

They shoot a new Corvette and bake it and can't rub out orange peel that's under the clear.

An expensive sports (like a Lambo) takes 3 days to paint (and that's after it is in primer).
They have inspectors that go over the paint, probably takes more than half a day. Any small imperfection gets fixed or the car gats repainted.

Another U Get What U Pay For thing.

DON'T KNOW WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS, BUT I HAD THREE WHITE PICKUPS FROM THAT GENERAL TIME FRAME AND HAD NO PAINT PROBLEMS. THEY WERE GARAGED AT NIGHT, BUT SPENT THE DAY IN THE GENTLE OKLAHOMA SUN. THEY WERE SELDOM WAXED, MAYBE ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR MAX.

Better run a check on him on google Letty.....a job is a good start.....does he have a car?

I have an 07 Duramax that the paint is falling off the hood. I was told white was the worst color for sticking to the primer......GM said they would pay 30% if I paid 70% which is ok I guess then the Stealership bid 1000 bucks to repaint the hood while the guys I usually go to will do it for $500. I'm not a bright man but I can do that math.

Tommy it seems to me you are in a tough environment for paint with the humidity and rain and heat....but you are right the paint should hang in better then that....

Still in goof off mode today but will have to hit it Monday.....Cold weather is coming.....or colder I mean

Have great day Guru's....

Harley is pretty proud of their paint and on my Ultra it looked as good the day I sold it as the day I bought it...course there is a lot less surface area but they restrict what the people who work in the paint booth can eat so their breath won't spoil the paint......I may have had on occasion some breath that would curl paint but I'm just going on what I have been told......

It was cold last night it a low of -6. We should reach the mid teens today with sunshine. We are suppose to have a heat wave tomorrow and a high in the upper 20's.

New paint looks good Tommy. Have fun on your date Letty.

Why I never plan my days,

I did get groceries.

I got into my fiberglass covered clothes, went to play with the 67's headlight buckets..........and found a panel that needed rebounded.

Except the dual cartridge gun is at Joe's.

Change clothes again (don't want to dust up the pickup seats), head to Joe's.

End up installing a complete new dash in the 66 Corvette.

Change back to the dusty, filthy clothes.

This is messing with my FO time.

What a boring day. I did get some little projects done I needed to do. I get home and here's a computer waiting for me to clean up. Initial scan showed 150 items. Cleaned those up then run the update on the software and run it again, I'm up to 100 more items. 8 viruses have ben removed too. No wonder it wouldn't run........

Bill what have you accomplished today other then wasting time with your car buddies......

How is the sanding going.......?

It's never wasted time with these car guys (they do actually build cars BTW ).

Sanding sucks

Actually, the bodywork where I cut the fender off and did the fiberglass work on the hood surround is 95% complete, just light sanding scratches to be fixed so, I have to figure out if I'll put more Liquid Gold Glazing on or wait and shoot the front end with FeatherFill or PPG high build primer so it can be blocked using different color primer fogged on. Too cold to shoot it now even though it was 61 today.

I was working on the glass where the headlight buckets go today. A couple more days will finish those. The headlight buckets have to be tweeked on the corners with fiberglass where the idiot body shop rounded them off. And the bucket mounting holes need to be welded up where they were ground out to make the buckets fit right.

The front of the nose needs to be finished but have to get the buckets in first. That will go quick.

The doors and their gaps are 95% done, 3 hours or so to finish.

Then all the body lines, the horizontal line in the middle of the doors have to be checked to see if everything is straight, that will take 2 people to do it.

If they are, I'll yank the body and start having fun.

Keep up the good work Tommy......I know you got it rough...but we are all pulling for you.....maybe a nice boat ride with some cold N/A's would help.....or a fast spin in the huffer Vette....

I love that pic out your front door. When will they plant that field across from you?

Sue's been pissed at me for 30 and a half years now. I'm kinda used to it.

The field is yielding yellow squash right now. We have permission to take what we want for our own consumption. Living in farm country has its perks.

Good luck with the date, Letty. Two marriages under his belt already might be a red flag, though.
