Good morning gang.

Hard to believe 1/4 of the year is gone. Time flies when you're having fun.

Here's a history lesson on April Fools'.

On with today.

Word of the Day Tuesday, April 01, 2014

capriccio\ kuh-PREE-chee-oh; It. kah-PREET-chaw \, noun;

1. a caper; prank.

2. Music . a composition in a free, irregular style.

3. a whim; caprice.

Origin:

Capriccio may be a shortening of the Italian word caporiccio which means "head with bristling hair." It is related to the Latin word caper meaning "goat."

Good Morning CGs!

Yesterday the needle on the thermometer hit the 70* mark. Couldn't believe it. Then last night we had strange intermittent storms. Supposed to be windy today with a high around 49. Then more rain tomorrow and off and on for the next week at least with all the temps in the 40s. Strange weather.

New light bulbs arrived in the mail so I installed those in the cluster. Got it in the car and noticed the cluster wasn't working right, I didn't lay one of the panels down squarely so it wasn't making contact. My missing segment was still missing, too. Took it out and apart again, corrected it and reinstalled. Missing segment was still missing (always has been for 7 years). Took it out and took it apart AGAIN. Removed the rubber pads, cleaned the glass, cleaned the contacts, reassembled and reinstalled...still missing. I'm done. I tried three times. I don't know if it's a circuit board issue or what. After that I sanded the console piece again (I know) and sprayed a couple light coats on it. Still need one more coat tonight but it should be done so I can put it back together. Also reinstalled the rear pads and greased the caliper pins. Should pick up the new tires tonight and I'm in business.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Howdy! It was decent here yesterday, too - low 60's, felt pretty good. Naturally it is 25 now, and I saw some cars with snow on them. And the s-word is in the forecast several days this week. Enough already! Meanwhile, some jackass scheduled a meeting for 7:30, so that will be a great way to get the day started.

Have fun, yawlz!

Morning guys....Another busy day in store. Meeting after school with a financial adviser and then out to GS's baseball game. The end of the school year gets so busy.

Matt, it must be a circuit board problem.

Oh, it was mid 70's yesterday, then last evening , a cold front moved through, got really windy and temps dropped about 25 degrees. Only high 50's today and windy, perfect for baseball.......

Hey Tom how about them Royals....um....forget it...up by two and can't keep it going....sigh. Oh well its opening day around the Nation and that is a sure way to know spring has sprung...Brad is no doubt trying to restrain his glee thinking about the Twinkies as they try to maintain a .500 average and stay out of the cellar. Then there is Matts Cubs and Tommy's Marlins....that's the beauty of the first day, everyone is a contender.

Cold out today but 50 by after lunch and no moisture...we continue our work.

Have a good day Guru's.....

1.A fool and his money are soon parted.

2.Start saving early and often.

3.Avoid a withdrawal at all cost.

4.Don't buy a racecar.

DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS LEGIT OR NOT; IF NOT IT'S WORLD CLASS PHOTOSHOPPING.

You gotta watch this ... This is almost a disaster. It's quick so watch carefully.

Read this text before watching the video - F-35 unintentional loop at takeoff on a carrier.

This guy clearly has brass and you know the sailors on the flight deck had a cow when they saw this unfold in front of them. Intentional? Hardly! This is unbelievable!
F-35 unintentional loop at takeoff a real "check your laundry" event.
A supremely well-trained US Navy pilot, ice running in his veins instead of blood, fully regains control of his $70 million, F-35 joint strike force fighter, after a problematic vertical take-off attempt... Watch as the rear vertical thruster fires to cause the problem.
There's nothing about this the pilot enjoys. If he could have ejected at 100' upside down and lived, he would have. Looks like the afterburner kicks in while still vectored for vertical takeoff. Lockheed would call this a "software malfunction" and do a little more "regressive testing". This is a good demonstration of power-to-weight ratio of this aircraft! And talk about stability control... wow!
If he didn't come out of the loop wings-level, it probably would have been bad news; maybe taking some of the carrier with him!
Add to this flying through your own exhaust, which can lead to equipment malfunctions, as in "flame out". The F-35 is single engine aircraft with vertical takeoff/landing capability, but it has the aerodynamics of a Steinway piano at zero airspeed. This is the most unbelievable piece of flying you will ever see in your life.
This guy's coolness saved a 70 million-dollar aircraft! On the other hand, he might not have had time to react to anything except just ride it. I bet you'll watch it at least 2 times!

Driving to work this morning I was thinking about this. I did not remove every single rubber pad to clean, only a few of them. I think I will pull it one more time, completely disassemble and clean everything, and put it back together.

Good morning, Gurus!

Has anyone tried a bacon bowl yet? I want to get it try it once, just to see, but otherwise it looks super ridiculous!

That squirrel vid was beautiful, and intense.

I think I'll be at my desk or in my office most of the day trying to catch up on many many things.

As an F1 fan, this has been my favorite April Fool's so far today: http://thisisf1.com/2014/03/31/massa- ... -team-orders-controversy/

Happy Tuesday!

That was truly an amazing video. I was rooting for the squirrel but didn't think he'd make it. Sometimes I am disturbed by the cycle of life. Then I go eat a piece of fried chicken or pork chop and the thought fades away.

BACK FROM THE DALLAS TRIP, GREAT NIECE ALL MARRIED OFF AND A GOOD TIME WAS HAD BY ALL. HER DAD SPRUNG FOR A FREE BAR, SO THE LEVEL OF CONVIVIALITY WAS CONSIDERABLY ENHANCED.

ALSO HAD A GREAT VISIT WITH MY 87 YO SECOND COUSIN. SHE'S THE OLDEST SURVIVOR ON MY DAD'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY.

IT'S NO FUN DRIVING IN DALLAS ANY MORE. WHEN I STARTED DRIVING DALLAS TRAFFIC WAS KINDA LIKE A BIG ROAD RACE. NOW IT'S MOSTLY GRIDLOCK. TOO MANY PEOPLE. MY LITTLE HOME COUNTY IS NOW ALL COVERED WITH McMANSIONS. IT MAKES ME SAD TO SEE IT, IT WAS SUCH A GREAT PLACE FOR KIDS & DOGS & RABBITS & .410'S.

We have hawks around here and I've watched them chase squirrels, rabbits and small rodents. Seen them catch a dove in flight .... Well, I saw the feathers fly. My neighbors' mother was wearing some kind of wild hat. A hawk left her with some talon scars on her head. Ouch!

Another amazing vid of a different sort:

SAW THAT HAPPEN ONCE, WITH A BIG REDTAIL AND A FOX SQUIRREL IN AN ISOLATED COTTONWOOD TREE. HAWK WAS JUMPING FROM BRANCH TO BLANCH BUT THE SQUIRREL ALWAYS OUT MANEUVERED HIM. HARD TO OUT DO A SQUIRREL IN A TREE. THE BIRD FINALLY GAVE UP.

We have hawks around here and I've watched them chase squirrels, rabbits and small rodents. Seen them catch a dove in flight .... Well, I saw the feathers fly. My neighbors' mother was wearing some kind of wild hat. A hawk left her with some talon scars on her head. Ouch!

DOVE SHOOTERS WILL KNOW WHAT A "MOJO DOVE" IS. TWO YEARS A BIG MARSH HAWK TRIED TO EAT MY MOJO DOVE. IS THAT A GREAT DECOY OR WHAT?

THAT WOULD HAVE HAD TO BE A FALCON. DOVES ARE TOO FAST FOR MOST HAWKS.

European Ring Neck Doves are a regular diet for the hawks here. We don't have falcons that I know of but I could be wrong. We have all kinds of critters here, native and non native.

The family that owns King's Hawaiian also owns a restaurant/bakery in Torrance, and I worked in the bakery when I was in college.

If you're driving on the 405 freeway (or in the area) at just the right time, you can smell the rolls and bread baking at the factory! They also now have a second small restaurant location right next to the factory in Gardena.

That bread right out of the oven must be killer. As a kid we used to go mooch English muffins at the local bakery. They almost always gave us one right off the rollers. When I was in my teens we washed the trucks at a downtown bakery at 04:00AM. The ovens were at it full steam and we'd get fresh Italian bread still steaming. Locally the bakeries make Cuban bread at 05:00AM and 05:00PM. That stuff hardens up after a few hours so you have to eat it fresh. We have a local grocery chain that has their own bakeries too. I just love hot and fresh baked goods. One of the good things, whether it is Italian, French or Cuban, you don't have to travel far to get it. Right, BillH?

RING DOVES ARE LARGER AND SLOWER THAN MORNING DOVE. (THIS MAKES THEM MY #1 SIL'S FAVORITE TARGET) THEY WERE STARTING TO GET ESTABLISHED IN OKLAHOMA BUT THE WILDLIFE FOLKS DECLARED THEM AN "INVASIVE SPECIES" AND LET THEM BE SHOT WITH NO LIMIT DURING SEASON. NOW THEY'RE TURNING URBAN.

THE SHARP-SHINNED HAWK IS A TRUE BIRD HAWK, BUT A RING DOVE IS A PRETTY LARGE TARGET FOR A SHARPIE. THE OTHER IS A BIRD I'VE NEVER SEEN OR READ ABOUT. FALCONS ARE FAIRLY COMMON ACROSS THE COUNTRY IN VARIOUS SIZES AND BREEDS.
