Good morning gang.

Looks like another nice day in store here. Clear sunny skies and temps in the mid to upper 60's again. Yesterday it very nice out. The wife had the windows open and a nice breeze was blowing through the house.

Word of the Day Thursday, September 18, 2014

quotha \ KWOH-thuh \, interjection;

1. Archaic. indeed! (used ironically or contemptuously in quoting another).

Origin:

Quotha entered English in the early 1500s from quoth a meaning "quoth he." Quoth , an archaic verb meaning "said," has been used since Middle English was spoken.

Today is NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY

For lunch or dinner, America’s favorite sandwich is topped off with a piece of cheese and then enjoyed by millions and celebrated each year on September 18 as it is National Cheeseburger Day.

There are many theories to the beginning of the cheeseburger dating back to the 1920′s. One story suggests that Lionel Sternberger is reputed to have invented the cheeseburger in 1926 while working at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop, “The Rite Spot”. During an experiment, he dropped a slice of American cheese on a sizzling hamburger.

There are other claims the invention of the cheeseburger:
◦A cheeseburger appeared on a 1928 menu at O’Dell’s, a Los Angeles restaurant, which listed a cheeseburger, smothered with chili. for 25 cents.
◦Kaelin’s Restaurant – Louisville, Kentucky says it invented the cheeseburger in 1934.
◦1935 – A trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, Colorado.
◦According to it’s archives, Gus Belt, founder of Steak n’ Shake, applied for a trademark on the word “cheeseburger” in the 1930′s.

To celebrate National Cheeseburger Day, gather some friends together, start up your barbecue grills, grill some hamburger patties, add your favorite cheese, then enjoy!

or….

Enjoy one of these “tried and true” recipes:

HAPPY NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY!

NATIONAL CHEESEBURGER DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of National Cheeseburger Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Good Morning CGs!

Should be pleasant here today, high of 65 and some sun. Pool is all closed up as of last night. I couldn't find my regular pump that I use to drain the pool at the end of the year. I have no idea where it went. So I had to rig up the actual pool pump to do the work for me. Worked well and pumped out pretty fast. Still, closing the pool in general is a PIA and I'm glad it's over.

Plan on driving the Vette to work a bit this week. Performs quite well in these temps. Not that I would ever engage in any spirited driving that would be against local traffic laws

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning guys....Up early, because I woke up and was just laying there, I hate it when that happens. Hopefully today will be a better day for me, but I intend to put my boss on the spot about what she knows about the disappearance of my dumpster, and a few other things.

Greetings! Another nice day on tap, so the Vette came out of the garage again. The commute was more comatose than spirited, though. Meanwhile, I have to make another donation to my dentist's retirement fund this afternoon.

Have a good day, all!

Marcus, the shop is looking good! Love the car siding you're putting up. Is it pre-finished?

I was in the principals office waiting for him to come in this morning and have a "chat" with him. (he was gone yesterday to a meeting and didn't know about what happened yesterday). I let it all out, even though I knew he had nothing to do with any of it. He told me he totally agreed with me and would check into it. I told him I hope he talks to the supt before I do.

Still hot today.

Tom the siding is not pre-finished and I will let it age like fine wine or hanging beef....what we put up last year has already darkened down quite a bit....

Need to figure out what to do with shelves next you have any good ideas on how to build some sturdy shelves...?

How big do you want them? We made some shelving for the softball team storage a couple years back. All 2x4's and 3/4" plywood, bolted together. Those would hold some weight. Shelves were full 4' x 8'. I built cabinets in my garage out of 3/4" melamine.

Then I added the Corvette emblems I drew up on the computer and had them cut out with our CNC plasma cutter.

Guru mojo is working at full efficiency...they called and had my GS done and ready to go....I went and filled it up and was so pleased to have a complete working fuel gauge for the first time in a long time.....the wrench said it went fine but getting the crossover tubes off the tank was a bitch and a half.....I had heard that before.....but after that it all went fast...

Shop time to do this job on a manual tranny is like 2.5 hours and 7 or 8 hours on an automatic tranny.....yikes!

Props to GM customer service for getting this done at only a $100 dollar cost to me.....I was out of warranty but had reported it just after it was out. Time not mileage.....
I am feeling good right now.....

I will honour National Cheese Burger Day tomorrow.

FINALLY... after way too long (it's been brewing for over 10 days), the heat wave effecting SoCal has broken... cool ocean breezes are back... Temps finally broke yesterday when the high parked over our collective asses pulled north and east, bringing the aforementioned ocean breezes back...

It was stifling hot with no air moving at all... and what breeze there was was HOT... like being in a blast furnace.

Last night at team trivia, we went from a close 4th to a distant first! All on the last bonus question (where you can bet up to 20 pts, get it right, +20, wrong, -10).

The last question, answer later:

What is the northernmost state that does not share a border with Canada?

otherwise, all is great!

Today was rebar day. I think we're all beat. We got 97% of it done. A little to finish tomorrow then the pour Saturday morning at 09:00. Dottie and Daisy took a few moments to check out the progress. It's just a pond so don't go looking for perfection. Not bad for a bunch of amateurs working under the direction of a pond and waterfall contractor. A sub-contractor that gave us a quote to rebar and shoot it for $8500. Sue wasn't up for that. We bought the rebar, had It delivered and Sue, her crew, me and Walter threw all together. Walter had the tools we needed so it made life easier. We found a guy with a concrete pump to shoot it on Saturday. He wants $800 and we buy the concrete. Probably around $2000 for concrete. When all is said and done I think it will come in at around $6000 total. It still has to be lifted and spaced.

You can set the, around the pond leaving a gap for the concrete pump. Then you could do something exciting...........sit there and watch the cement dry.

Possibly a discussion like: "remember when we usta Autocross?"
