Good morning gang.

It's cold here this morning temps in the mid 20's and a few flurries overnight. We should get to low 30's for a high today with some snow on and off during the day.

Word of the Day Thursday, November 13, 2014

horripilation \ haw-rip-uh-LEY-shuhn, ho- \, noun;

1. a bristling of the hair on the skin from cold, fear, etc.; goose flesh.

Origin:

Horripilation shares a root with the word horror in the Latin verb horrēre meaning "to bristle." It entered English in the mid-1600s.

Today is NATIONAL INDIAN PUDDING DAY

Celebrated each year on November 13 is National Indian Pudding Day. This day honors a “cold-weather classic”, which is a traditional New England dessert; Indian pudding.

It was in the seventeenth century that English colonists brought hasting pudding to North America and completely transformed it. Originally made with wheat, they substituted cornmeal as, at that time, they lacked wheat. The colonists had learned how to cultivate maize (corn) from the indigenous peoples, leading to the new name Indian pudding which derived from their name for cornmeal,Indian meal. Milk was substituted for water and they added either molasses or maple syrup along with cinnamon, ground ginger, butter, eggs, raisins and nuts. Indian pudding is then slowly baked for several hours, transforming its texture from the original porridge-like quality of hasty pudding to a much smoother texture which is more typical of custard puddings.
◦Indian pudding was found in most American cookbooks before 1900.
◦20th century commercial puddings with industrially perfect smooth consistency replaced the popularity of Indian pudding.
◦The long cooking time required for Indian pudding did not appeal to 20th century home cooks.
◦Indian pudding is still associated with autumn holidays and is occasionally served by some restaurants.
◦Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream are usually served with Indian pudding.

To celebrate National Indian Pudding Day, try the following “tried and true” Indian pudding recipe:

NATIONAL INDIAN PUDDING DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator and the origin of National Indian Pudding Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Good Morning CGs!

Cold here as well, but we haven't been hit with the hard snow like some people. I have a cousin in upper Michigan who got a foot and a half, and some friends in Colorado also got buried. So I will consider us lucky.

Stay warm out there.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Morning guys...It's cold here, my thermometer says 1.5. About an inch of snow. Not a good start to the day. A funeral to go to today. I'll only miss one class though.

Seat heater is getting a workout here. Meanwhile, I have an all-day meeting today. Kill me now.

Enjoy your day, Gurus!

It has been a while, but just checking in again. Still fighting the cancer and all the crap that comes with it, so far so good. Lots of up and downs, but a year ago the DR thought I would be dead by now. Still kicking, just not as hard.

The vette is gone, traded for a later model Chevy 4x4, lot more practical. I can still drive, but very limited.

I am celebrating 69 years on tomorrow - dinner and a movie.

Ya'll take Care, Andy

Busted my ass today from 07:00 to 06:15 when we stopped to host the local crime watch meeting. The pond took a step forward with water flow from the well circulating on a timer. Added a few more fountains too. (Not what I planned for today but someone else planned for me.) Have to pack tomorrow. Running behind a little. As long as I don't miss the boat .............

He is doing well. Presently stationed in N. Florida and a SSGT in the USAF assigned to special forces with the CV-22.
He enjoys the flying, but is talking about getting out next spring. Thanks for asking.
