Some hair-raising flying going on here - it almost makes you scared to fly.

The Windiest Airport in theWorld---Watch the wings flex and rudder deflection. The video was shot at Wellington International Airport in New Zealand. Cross-winds are obviously terrible, looks like they crab maybe as much as 60 to 70 degrees and often abort when the winds are even worse. Toward the end, the video taken from the cockpit and the copilot yelling "wave off - wave off" and sure enough they did:

Looks like fun tossing those birds around. They correct at the last second to keep from shearing the landing gear off.

I still think youre better off flying into new zealand than taking the bus though.

Holy crap!
If my wife were to watch that, you'd never get her on another airplane. To be honest, that would scare me too.

Now, for any of you flying experts. I notice when they come in at an extreme angle, it looks as if the landing gear is actually turned to line up with the runway. Is that really what it's doing, or just an optical illusion?

Remember that flying is safer than driving. I'd like to see
the same thing with vehicle near misses.

I saw some pics of traffic in the Miami power outage today - drivers looked completely clueless.

I was just gonna say, I would not want to come into Denver or Colorado Springs from the west. Coming over the Rockies is pretty tricky, or so I hear...

I have been flying airliners for 20 years and that scared me. Some pretty crappy techniques there. I am amazed the gear held up through some of those crab landings. A couple of them were nicely done.

If it were me, 9.9 out of 10 of those attempts would have been all right hand forward! Stick buried in my lap(singing soprano,Abort!, Sorry folks, we'll be landing in someplace less windy....like O'hare !! Jez thats scarry stuff! That on shot from the rear (on of the last 3 I think, that guy is crabbing at greater than 45 degrees to the runway and you can see him slam his right foot and kick the tail straight and nail it. Skill or luck!!? disaster avoided......With all of this video, no crashes?

I've seen the wing tips flap up and down 6 feet in really nasty turbulence.

This one flexed 24 feet before failure...
