Good for her. Just as in business and other venues, women get grief when they are hard-nosed competitors. Show me any driver who has not made mistakes on their way to the top. Never could understand why the standards have to be higher for her. To her detractors, get over it! It won't be her last win.

This has been an interesting weekend for women drivers.

Danica won, Simona De Silvestro won in the Atlantic series and the ESPN reporter, Jamie Little, won the Celebrity Pro-Am at Long Beach.

As for saying Danica needed "help" to win? That's bull. There are two ways to win, out speed or out smart. She still had to be in that position to take advantage of it.

Bravo. Absolutely, her crew chief and pit crew should all have a hand on that trophy. I'm sure none of her competitors willingly helped her win.

Of all the women drivers she's the first talent to actually develop a competitive spirit. It took four+ years to develop... Other women in the open wheeled series have had the talent, but not the spirit.

With the combining of series going into Indy, this may prove to be the real return of the open wheels we've been waiting for.

Speaking of being in the right position??? ahhhh well nevermind that. It'll be good for a series that needs all the help it can muster, if, and I say "If" Castronieves tapped his brakes for just a bit???......... Well it would have been just another win for him, ho hum, so what. Danica wins and she made history!!!! and a shot in the arm for the series. After all it is just like any other entertainment ... isn't it?
I was at the LBGP this weekend and was looking at the braking systems on those cars, compared to F-1 they look weak, old technology. They were having a hard time finding drivers, Paul Tracy, Jimmy Vassar, kinda old aren't they?

those brakes on the old Champ Car are still world class. A Champ Car is about 90% an F1 in performance and lap times, but it also costs a fraction of the $$$.

I am getting more and more pissed that Danica has to "defend" her win. When Richard Petty won the 1979 Daytona 500, only after the leaders wrecked and proceeded to fist fight in the infield, no one questioned it. He was beaten, too... I see no difference for Danica... and if she has to defend her win, that's bullshit plain and simple. She won the race, does it matter how?

I only saw the last few laps, but damn, nobody closes that fast without help.

Even one of the announcers was suspicous...

FWIW, when Petty won Daytona '79 he already had 150+ wins under his belt, and probably 6 at the Daytona 500.

Now, remember what happened when Brian Vickers got his first win by stupidly wrecking two cars, including his teammate? Everyone hated him for it, and it probably contributed to him leaving the team. He also hasn't come close since.

That's the dilemma of being at the top of your profession.
