Just another reason to keep it on the street, and I've never seen one of those dangerous "car grabbing" tire walls on the street

I'd rather hit a tire wall than a tree.

I'd rather hit nothing at all......
Seems like a lot of street cars get jacked up at the track hitting walls. I've seen numerous videos of C6 Zs hitting the wall at drag strips too.

IMO sand pits, grassy areas and the like would be a better option.

Mike, am I to understand you can burn PROM's for the early LT1 cars ('92-93)?

I had a nice tune from Alvin that was working well. I needed to lose some power (strange problem to have) so last year we physically changed cam timing. Now it runs 'fer shit.

If you knew the current tune and the amount we retarded the cam could you alter it without the car and a dyno?

I just got my arse kicked because it falls flat on its face at 5000 RPM instead of 6500 like it used to...

I'll pay handsomely...

No I can't burn PROM'S for early LT1s. I have a 1995 and they are flashable. Ed Wright does my tunes and I end up changing little things like tire size/shift points ETC.

However, I bet if you shoot Ed Wright a line he could get you exactly what you want, with a few datalogs...Mike

I bought a Fbody PCM as a spare. I loaded my current Bin into it a few days ago.
Today I took the car for a quick drive to see if the NAYSAYERS from the other site were right and low and behold they were wrong...

The car ran fine with the Fbody PCM, no codes.....no drama...

I ordered SCE 211127 and it does not fit on my engine. Its listed as an LT1 Intake Gaskets for Chevrolet LT-1 but its cut for LT4 ports so the cutout for the ports extend a little above my intake so they would not seal for sure. They LOOK LIKE great gaskets. I'm going to contact SCE and see if they have a real LT1 gasket.

I ended up using a MR gasket that was supposed to be .062 thick but its thinner than the SCEs and my old 1284.

Maybe the Mr Gaskets will seal it up, but no worries a set of 1284s is sitting in a truck somewhere between Georgia and my house.

I finally did the A.I.R./EGR delete yesterday so intake removal should be well under an hour now. (EGR has been disabled by my tune since 2006 so the tubing/equipment has just been there for looks.

Yesterday I went to NAPA for a pair of oil drain plugs for a 2000 Dodge 2500 5.9 Cummins diesel and they installed smoothly into my header bungs. Part number BK 7041378

In my experience HIGHER is better and I always raise my jackstands to the top position for engine/transmission work.

Workroom gives you options.

...and I keep the car level for engine or transmission removal it simplifies reinstallation.

The SCE's look interesting. Felpro 1284 is .060 so there is a little bit of difference

Mike
Those AFR gaskets seem to be LT4 gaskets and maybe a little too larger PORTWISE for my little old LT1

What gaskets are in the lower picture? They seem to have smaller ports (lower like an LT1)

Thanks guys

Like Weav I occasionally suffer from split BLMs (mine are not as bad as his) however, usually it starts when the car is sucking oil past the intake gasket (FelPro 1284))

What's the thickest LT1 gasket?
P/N and manufacturer would be appreciated.
I believe the intake may have been cut a little too much and a thicker gasket would put things right.

A C4 rear with polys gets stupid stiff...
Banski's rod end dog bones restored my ride quality and retained the slotcar like handling I gained by removing factory rubber bushings.

I did the entire polygraphite install even the batwings, no squeek or squeals during the 4 years the polys wer on but I did not realise how bad the car's ride quality was until I installed banskis....

Now if he comes up with front end components.......
Mike

Well I figure the binding will contribute to the net spring rate artificially with poor distribution, so going Banski will reduce effective spring rate and alter fore aft spring rate balance and henceforth creating lean and more understeer?

I have not noticed anynegative effects from the sperical rod end install. Suspension binding is never a good thing.

I actually have a prototype front suspension on my car now. I've been to the track with it for 3 days and so far so good. I was floored by the difference made by replacing the poly bushings with the low friction ones I've prototyped.

Just like in the rear, with the poly bushings in place and no spring or shock on I still struggled to move the suspension up or down. You could just see the poly bushing's shoulders mashed into the frame and causing binding.

With these bushings in the stock control arms they go to full droop just under their own weight. I've incorporated a few changes in the upper control arm in an effort to ease re-assembly. I also made a change to the mounting of the lower control arms to try to reduce any excess clearance without making binding of its own.

Unfortunately I've been battling other stupid issues that have kept me off track much more than I'd like but hope to get back to it soon.

Is it going to be rod end or delrin?

Please let me know if my math is correct!

Let's take Weavsvets cam for example.
He's making 12" (it's inHg, right?) at idle.
If we convert that to kPa, that makes ~40 kPa.
So if we take 40kPa off of ~101kPa(atmospheric pressure),
does it mean that his MAP reading at idle should be
arround 61kPa?

Also, does compression have effect on vacuum?

From checking my datalogs/vs my vacuum gauge your are correct manifold vacuum will reflect in the differential between MAP and BARO at idle. Baro-MAP = manifold vacuum

Oh well, my Ebert built 355 likes to rev too...
One of these days I'll remember to bring a camera.

The same casting is used as a Left or Right head s...

Both ends of the head are tapped for the steam tube...whatever side ends up on the front gets pipe plugs.

So long story short...there should be...no there has to be a hole or plugged hole for your temp sensor.....If the plug is between the front pair on the drivers side ....the hole will be between the rear pair of cylinders on the passanger side.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY FOLKS

I had some projects planned for this weekend but my lousy landing lastweek put a damper on mechanical projects...probably put them off for another 4 weeks or so...

However, I'm not deployed ...I'm with my family, nothing broke when I was out on a datalog run this morning....I have a couple dozen pints of guiness in the fridge, plenty Flor de Cano, limes, Brats, Burgers etc so...I'm certain it will be a great day.....

I may wash the vette this afternoon since it doesn't look like rain and if I do I'll be sure to douche the engine bay again too!

Some details would help.....IE year, engine L98/LT4 ,
there are a lot of differences between the years. Since you say distributor I'd bet you have a 1984-1991.

Next when its cutting off....
....when its HOT
....going around corners
....when AC kicks in
....at Idle
....at high speeds

etc

If you have a 1992-1996 and its when the engine is hot the ICM would be a good guess.
But so would ignition coil...or a plethora of other parts.

You guys have got to listen to this. Is this normal?

I installed a PP 58mm tb on the car this morning. All in all idle is better or at least smoother. Throttle response is really nice but...........it sounds like a damn vacuum cleaner in the front of the car......at idle!

My 92 sounded the same way at the air cleaner when I had the 58mm on there. You should hear it now with the AS&M Mono Blade....
Will

How do you like the monoblade????

Did you gain anything over the 58MM?

Ya know, that's probably correct,Mike. But back then there were at least a few that were good. I do remember a few.

But, today........................

The clerks at NAPA seem to be/have alway been ...better than the other chain stores....
Now back in the day when there were still some independently owned parts stores...the counter guys at the independant shops seemed to care and know about cars....

Where/when did the USA fail.... Australia makes a better inexpensive American style V8 power rear wheel drive family car than we do.... Holden Commodore...Ford Falcon...yes we have a world class car the CTSV but its just a little too small for my tastes and a little to upscale....

That's spelled N-ASS-SCAR.

The fans let it happen. Tony Stewart was right -pro wrestling.

The manufacturers feel that the fans are dumb enough to think changing decals and front fascia changes a Ford into a Chevy.

Plus the fans don't care if a Ford or Chevy wins anymore as long as their celebrity wins.

Australia has it right, so do the Brits.

Yea, funny that they won't sell a V8 sedan here but when you pass the soccer fields, it's wall to wall V8 Suburbans and Tahoes.

IMO the entire SUV phenomenon is due to the US Government's Cafe standards...

Americans wanted to keep their v8 three row seat station wagons...
Congress mandated CAFE standards had a loop hole for trucks to the station wagon evolved into a truck... SO the Brady's still had their 7 liter 12mpg station wagon....

Now the US car manufactures are actually light truck makers...

I'd buy the ford Falcon too.....

The G8 is based on the Holden platform.

There is talk of redoing the Impala using the G8 platform, initially as a police car only, but how knows.

I like the 300, but don't have a handling comparison.

If the G8 was that perfect a fit, there would still be Pontiac... I suspect the reasons are many...

I know the G8 is a Holden Commodore...Pontiac was closed IOT use the cash to hold up BUICK ...(although buick is not doing well here ...seems like the chinese like it)
The G8 was doomed (when I bought one for my wife...gas was 3.89 a gallon and GM was already talking about killing Pontiac......if they had brought over the Caprice LTZ or Caprice SS...better yet made a RWD Impala SS

I'd have a new chevy in the yard...

I tried to buy a car from Chevy back in 2006 and I got spammed as they tried to force me into a truck...so my wife ended up with the Scion she just had to have...however; after driving the Scion for a couple of months she started driving the 02 Impala....leaving Scion for the kids to drive..(My wife got better highway and in town mileage with the 2002 Impala than she did with the Scion go figure...)

Something about real cars with lights/doors/windows/etc and left and right turns vice
window nets/ stickers and hours of circle like a stupid dog chasing its tail...and then some jackass rams another jackass.....

I really wish Chevrolet would make an Impala SS or Impala LTZ like the Commodore that I could buy to replace my 95SS

My IMPALA SS has been resting in Peace ....the Insurance company totalled it when it was running and driving perfectly because of some rear end damage...bumper/taillights/trunk/1/4 panel/rear door/ etc...

But the initial settlement was more than double what I had into it...so I took it.....

Yes, I bought my wife a foreign car ...for Xmas a couple of years ago...but I'd been jonsing for a Caprice LTZ(Middle East version of Commodore) since the first time I drove one back in 1999 and didn't want to miss out when it was obvious GM was pulling plug on Pontiac....

Back to my rant how can we get big ass V8 powered four door American sedans again... why does GM still make cars I want....but for overseas consumption and not for domestic...?

Mopar makes the 300....and I liked the concept but once I drove it NOT SO MUCH>>>> the visibility out of that PIG sucks and the handling is miserable especially when compared to the G8 and CTSV.....
OFF RANT

I bet a datalog run in the vette tomorrow morning will increase my morale....

You may have to mechanically set your TB blade IOT get the IAC count low enough that it can compensate for the AC..

If you pull the IAC out of your TB and leave it plugged in and it moves when you turn the key on
its probably good....
(don't start it just turning the ignition on should make the IAC move "test")

....and setting the throttle blades correctly will probably fix your problem...

(It the throttle blades are too closed the IAC will not have enough range of motion left to keep the IDLE smooth in gear with the AC kicking... I know this from experience....)

Mike

I'm pretty sure the IAC is good. I can test it on the Tech1 I have. I've been playing with the blades readjusting the TPS voltage and then repeat that again. It's getting better every time.
Steve's right the TPS will self adjust...and resetting the IAC is easy enough

Depress accelerator slightly
Start engine, then release accelerator pedal, run engine for 5 seconds
Turn ignition "OFF" for ten seconds
Restart engine and check for proper idle operation

(I try to get my counts between 30 and 40 at idle)

Ok, this sounds like my problem because when I turn the AC on it wants to die or search for it's idle also. It never seems to recover from the AC until the compressor cuts out.

There is a seperate tuning table for the IAC counts with the A/C on. The counts will be much higher.

I agree....however , if the TB is closed too much the IAC will have to open more IOT idle and then it may be maxed out with out enough headroom to IDLE with the AC on...
