My daughter found a high mileage 07 ZO6 Red/ black interior with 152K miles. Drivers seat is worn, the owner is a medical imageing rep. Minor dings, minor road rash on front end beyond bra, has gone through 5 set of tires, wheels look good. Engine sounds good, clutch is iffy, 1st gear sycros a little rough. Had rear hubs replaced @ 130K, suspension work @ 120K,
Used Amsoil since it was new. All dealer repairs. Orginal clutch. 30 something rep. states its never been raced but has 6 speeding tickets over 3 years. Didn't ask about speed. He told me he had it at 172 once.
On a scale of 1-10 it about 6.
What do you guys think its worth?

To me it's worth a pass. I don't like that much wear on a vehicle that new. I'd rather have an older lower mile vehicle than a higher mile newer vehicle. IMO. Unless of course it was priced so low you couldn't refuse.

Book says, in that condition, $13 - $17k. I agree with Tommy, pass. Great car, but sounds a bit abused.

Yea I feel the same way! I've only 32K on my 87. I talked to her while posting and shes weighing her options. She feels she could wait two more years and buy a much lower mileage vette.

I think he is talking less then 12K. Its not so much abuse as use. You know how you are after a long trip where your last concern is the vehicle or washing it by hand. I agree she should pass!

Tommy, are you saying the car is worth mid 30's?? I may be reading your post wrong. I got high retail of $26k with trade in at $12k on KBB.

This doesn't sound like a mid 30k car. At that price, pick up a low mile C6, put a supercharger on it, save some coin, and blow by that Z.

5 sets of tires tells me he is getting 30K per set, which in turn tells me those are mostly highway miles. Figure $1K for new seat covers, $2K for new clutch, and if the math works out and you want it make him an offer. I guess the wild card would be the paint condition though. We all know what paint costs.

Edmunds is accurate based on sales of a particular model, I think. 33K seems high but I'm not shopping for a new Vette.
My daughter feeling is that her experience with Chevy engines i.e my truck 260+K with little problems, Her rational is she could drive it for 4 years and sell with a marginal profit.

Paint shows road rash where the bra ends. Never been hand washed always car wash places. I'm really surprised the paints not that bad. The clutch feels rough and I'm concerned about 1st gear. Having said that I have only driven a ZO6 once, so I'm not qualified to make that call!

Yea, but the bad clutch could be amplifying the 1st gear problem.

Fix the clutch, and first could fix itself. At the same time, if it doesn't the transmission is an easy swap... remember? Behind the differential!

I just ran this car through kelly blue book and got a fair condition value of $16k, on private party sale.

I would say that if your daughter lays off the huge mileage hits, and in say 4 years, the car only has 165k on it or so, she might just break even or even make a few bucks. If nothing else, it sounds like a fun ride.

And I tend to believe that the prior owner didn't beat on it... think about it, he needed to depend on this to get from sale to sale. If it took a shit, he was out money, in more ways than one.

How much was a new Z06? Are you telling me 80% depreciation on a car in fair condition would be the norm over 4 years? Damn, that's almost as good as muscle car depreciation rates in the 60's.

I kinda like the 290 mile Yellow Z06 with a private party asking price of $29000. I wonder how cheap a 2002 Z06 is going for. I still have room in my driveway.

I have a fair amount of experience with these cars as several of my friends own them from 2006 to 2010. My best friend Jim has had two. I have driven most of them and this is what I know.

First off I was going to say that I would offer 32K to begin and see what he does.

The pre 2009 Z06 have a different gear box and are notoriously trickier to shift than the new ones. Jim's 2010 is like night and day from the 2006 he owned before, it shifts like silk. Factory tires are good for maybe 10,000 miles if you treat them good. If you like mashing the pedal a lot the rear tires will go in 5k. Jim doesn't drive his car especially hard and he went through four sets in three and a half years. They are not cheap! and the car has little traction if you goose it. They are a blast to drive. They can get sideways easier than any car I have ever driven and can get you into trouble if you are not ready for it.

I don't know why he would have had suspension work done to the car unless he was trying to mod it, but even the racers don't mod these suspension much that I know.

Bottom line. These cars are just awesome. If you can get this car for around 32-35k you could bring her back into shape very easily. However, you will still have a high mileage car to deal with for years to come and the value will never be higher than you paid.

A local buddy of mine just picked up a very nice, needing no work, 03 Z06 with just over 60k miles for $15.5. There are great deals on these cars out there. This is also what is driving down the prices on C4's.

First of all Guru's I really appreciate your Input. I value your opinions and experience! my daughter does to.
She called me this morning and she is in "negotiations" with the rep. This is the info she has found since last night.
Concern#1 She can not buy the vette right now! his depreciation rate for tax purposes runs out mid October!
Concern#2 Suspension work @ 120K was a result of running off the road to avoid a deer.
Price was established on dealer trade in value.

She has gathered costs on putting ZO6 back in good condition:

Total paint $4000.00
Clutch $1,800.
Interior Drivers Seat $ 750.00
Brakes and Rotors $500.00

She just paid off her house in May and is tight with a buck.
She told me maybe now she can join our guru bunch if she buys it! Cool!

Vetron, if you (or your daughter) pass on this car I am extremely interested. This is perfect for my use, as I will be gutting it and making a race car out of it.

Seats and miles don't scare me, it will have new seats and a motor rebuild, a clutch is easy with the motor and trans out ;)

Where is the car?

I will keep you updated Jon on her decision! I would assume the car is on its way to Iowa with rep inside.

BTW your going to be in South Haven soon right!

Yup. Racing with NASA there on Aug 21/22, running my own club event Sept 25.

If you want to watch some wheel 2 wheel racing come to the August one, if you want to drive or get a ride on the track come in Sept

Perhaps you or your daughter (or me) will have a sweet '07 Z06 on track for one of these!

Talked to one of my former students thats the Vette mechanic at the local Chevy dealership. He said exactly the samething you said regarding the clutch and first gear.
He would replace the clutch for her with GM parts for $700.00 at his own garage. He felt that the 427/505hp can take a lot of abuse but with that kind of mileage all road miles is probably in great shape!
My daughter came up with the same conclusion about his treatment of the car, he could not afford to ruin his ride.
Andy I appreciate your input and all the guru's advice and input. Maybe soon she will join us. Thanks

I agree that mileage has to be all freeway, so it's actually better than had it sat idling for that length of time.

I don't understand the point of buying something beatdown and then budgeting for new seats, paint, etc. I mean the entire point of buying something used up is to save money, you defeat the purpose when you go put a new paint job on it.

I mean, it can't be any worse looking than the paint on my car, and it shines up just fine.

I've been scouring the interweb for a year looking for the high-mileage abused Z06. It just doesn't exist. People baby these cars because they're "rare" so the lemons are not out there. I dont' want to take a pristine trailer queen and tear it apart, it would hurt my soul...

But giving a car like this, which had a good life, a whole second career? Perfect...

I tell my daughter to take the emotions out of the purchase.Yea right! Shes a 28 yr.old MicroBiologist something with an MBA. I can see both sides of the issue but I'm not 28. She looks at the Vette as a poor soul that needs a good home. Yes guys you read that right! She had her eye on the vette for 2 years now. The rep comes through the area every 6-8 weeks to advise, upgrade or sale new equipment. She has known him since their Purdue days.
She keeps the cars she pays off i.e 2000Pontiac 2 door Grand Am GT. 1957 Chevy PU, 2007 Fusion and now this. Cool
She is ultra Conservative and so is her future Husband.
The owner of the Vette is a straight shooter, and works his butt off in a very competitive business. There is a trust factor that is important in her decision making process.

Its relly not beat down! its been driven. Paint looks great from a distance but up close it shows stone and road wear and your correct a good clay bar, polish and sealant or wax would add a lot to the looks. The seat is worn while the passenger seat is brand new. 80k new vs 12K 3yr old. Like I said not my choice.

I'm confused does he want 12K for this car or 33K. If it's 12K I would get that in a minute. I would let my wrench look it over to make sure no big engine problems. The car is only 4 years old and it's a ZO6. I would like to see pics.

Price was established on dealer trade in value.

Which was what?

What the car is worth to the dealer on a trade in on a new Vette.

Uhhh...yeah, that's the point of my question. What did the dealer offer?

Sounds like a hell of a deal to me....even if she has to put 5-6k into it, she's at less than 20K.
