It all depends on the initial condition of the ZR1. Also, when it comes down to it, the ZR1 is now only finding collector value... But is still not a hot investment.

No matter what, a few cars of pretty much any line will turn into a race version. If the car has a good lineage, it might create its own value. Records set, things like that.

Think back to the LeMans L88s of the late 1960s. Do you really think that they cared they were hacking up rare street cars? But look at their value, now.
