On the Vette I go every season. So I will change it in late November and be ready for spring. I use Mobil 1. My other cars I go about 5000 between changes. The GM vehicles have the oil change service feature and I usually go when it hits 50%.
Back in the day I changed every 2000 then went to 3000 and now 5K. More than that and I get to feeling bad about it.

Hmmmm, sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. I think in a lot of the big companies and our government it all looks good as long as you have a fresh supply of money coming in every day. When that dries up you have to get creative or just print more money or borrow from the Chinese.

Went out for chinese food last night (thursday night tradition at our house) also my night to cook so I kinda made up the tradition to keep from having to cook.
 I was sitting at a stoplight headed home in the Vette when a State Patrol pulled up behind me. I took off easy and got about a 100 yards when the lights came on. I pulled over and got everything out and the nice lady patrolman told me my plates had expired. Duh, I guess we have to get our plates renewed every year here, go figure! Also my insurance card was out of date. She was nice and only gave me fixit tickets but I saw her ogling my car and me also I'm sure. That's what my wife thinks. So today I am getting those things fixed. Go Vikings! We have what's called a mulberry tree here that has purple fruit and the birds eat them and it is not pretty what they do to the cars. Go gettum Guru's

Matt, it takes a real man to watch a chick flick! The last chick flick I watched was Iron Man 2. I made it through without getting emotional. Ok, maybe a bit at the end of the movie.
Rainy and cool here today, got a new alternator for the 90 and will install. Working mostly in the office with billing and such. Went to my sons football game last night and they pulled it out 18 to 16 with a great goal line stand on defense. He was feeling good, good enough to eat $19 dollars worth of McDonalds after the game! We used to feed the whole family for that. Have a safe day Guru's!

I'm having a hard time getting going this morning. I think I'm in rebellion to anything that isn't fun or easy. Nice here today! Went to the Husker game saturday and had a good time. We won easy and it was a perfect night for football. It's a hassel to drive in and fight the crowds but when our freshman quarterback runs in 46 yards on the 3rd play of scrimmage and me and Ultraboy are going wild, it's priceless! Ok, Guru's let's get fired up out there, there is money to make. Have a good time today!

Took the Vette to church this morning. It has an alternator going out so is making a growl up front. Still charging but I supposed that will end soon. Got one ordered but was suprised that no one had one on hand. What do you mean you don't have a 90 Vette alternater? Why not? Other than that I am just hanging out. I did get GT's Dirty Dozen CD the other day but have not listened to it yet. Have some fun, you guys deserve it.

Brad, I am glad it wasn't any worse. I had a deer run into the side of my car once. I couldn't believe it. Did some damage. I always worry about deer when I am on my motorcycle. Sometimes you don't survive those encounters.
We have some Smartcars running around town now, and I'm thinking I wouldn't want a raccoon to run into me in one of those. What, do they just bury you in those things? Saves money on a casket I quess. I am taking today and the rest of the weekend off from work. I will be at work around the house mowing and cleaning up, they don't call it labor day for nothing. Ultraboy has an away game tonight and we hope it goes better than last week. (49 to 7) Yikes! Weather is beautiful will have to do some driving in the 90. Have a great weekend Guru's! Try a random act of kindness on someone!

The Volunteers are going through what the Huskers did a few years back. It was to bad Kiffen left when things were starting to turn around. Although I think he is overated. We will see how he does out in LA LA land. There is nothing fancy about Pellini but Bo knows football! Plus he is from Ohio and played in the Big 10. Good Luck to your Vols Trae!

Gee, someone who is real smart has come up with an idea that there is no God, how unusual. The daily miracales that I see remind me that this isn't some big accident. My Dad was a scientist with more degrees than a thermometer, but he saw the total awsomness and wonder of the order that God installed into His creation. It compelled him to keep trying to unlock the science and building blocks that have been put in place to give God's best creation a place to live.
We have barely scratched the surface of what is out there.

The Big Ten announced the two divisions for the Big 10 (12) that will start in 2011. Since Nebraska came on board things had to change. The Huskers first season will include games with Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwestern, Penn State, Michigan and over Thanksgiving we will play Iowa. We are not in Kansas anymore Dorthy! Holy cow! It's either the road to distruction or the path to a National Championship.
We take our Huskers seriously out here, what else is there except the price of corn. This is a big deal, the coffee shops are buzzing and the farmers are buzzing anticipating a big crop,and Husker football. It's the Good Life here in flyover country. We do have some unfinished business. Texas who we beat in the Big 12 title game (until they added a second on the clock) Will be in our house on Oct. 16. It's a Red out game and tickets are already going for as high as $2500. My wife says for that much she would sell ours........... Naaaa!

It is interesting the amount of knowledge that I obtain on this forum. Some of it even Corvette related. Trouser chilli??? LOL! Dawn, Dawn, Dawn, I wonder where you ever ended up?
Have not a lot of plans for the weekend other to lay up and catch up on sleep. The rain the last couple of days has brought the 2010 crop campaign to an end. Now we wait for harvest and then the circle of life starts all over again in November with seed sales. I think the odd noise in the engine bay on my 90 is the air pump gone bad so I am going to take it off and install an eliminator kit. Hope that's what it is. Have a good day Guru's! Cloudy here but no rain, which we could use. Have to go to the bank this morning they are not wanting to increase my line of credit on my business unless I sign my equity in my house over to them. How do you politely say, not no, but hell no. I did tell them there are other banks in town. I have been with these guys for 20 years and never missed yet. I will try to be nice. Times have changed.

I guess if you can swing a new ZO6 or ZR1, whats another 6 grand. If the engine had trouble down the road you would have to blame yourself. Chevy would be like, "I don't know man you built it".

My 90 recommends Premium fuel which is usually 91 Octane. I just got my Car and Driver magazine and in their Backfires section someone asked if a Porsche that had a 93 octane requirement was using that when they did the tests. C & D answered that in California all they could get was 91 octane and ran all their car performance test on that. They realize that the spark will be more retarded and the power down but that is the fuel they are stuck with.
They go on to say that they ran a Bently Continental GTC Speed on 91 octane and ran 4.8 to 60 mph and 13.4 in the 1/4 mile. With 93 octane the same car ran 4.3 to 60 and 12.8 in the 1/4 mile with that fuel. From 13.4 to 12.8 is huge it think with only that as the difference.

I think I will try a few tanks of 89 to see how it works for me. I was just going off of what Chevy was recommending for my engine. My Harley is fuel injected and the Motor co. has said that it is ok to run E10 which I have always done and never had a problem with it. Carbs are a different story especially the older ones. O rings seals and whatever else it will eat will give you fits.
I have heard the alcohol has a cooling effect on the intake and engine. Has anyone else heard that. I know that E85 is used for a racing fuel, but the car has to be set up for it.

I have to say I was suprised when I saw they had added it to the premium fuel. I had been running 91 octane in the Vette when I went out to fuel up not to long ago and saw the 93 octane on the pump. High octane is good right?

I seem to have 2 speeds on my fan all on or very little coming out the vents. It works on max cool but when I want to tone it down a little I push the buttons and it says 9,8,7 and so on but the speed is like a 1 or 2. Would someone know what needs replaced to make that work like new. Thanks

E-10 is a good cleaner, but I always figured it would keep the injector system sparkling. I have used E10 in my autos and trucks for years and never had an issue. Some of that may be due to the fact that I start the vehicles out on it so there is not a lot of crud built up in the tanks.
It is also true that the alcohol absorbs water. 200 proof alcohol is anhydrous so it has an affinity for water. I have not had any problem with stratification mainly because we go through fuel so fast around here. Nothing sits for very long. I have been told that the water in fuel is chelated or absobed by the alcohol in the gasoline and dispersed throughout the tank. This puts the H2O in a dilute form that passed through the fuel system without the engine knowing the difference. I am using a 93 octane E10 premium fuel in my Vette and so far it has not given me any problems. I was talking to a C5 owner the other day who was filling up and he was using the 89 octane E10 which I asked him how that worked since I thought you should use at least a 91 octane in his car. He said the car ran great with it and never has given him any problems. It is a lot cheaper but I want the best for my baby. These are my own personall observations over a 20 year period since E10 and now E85 have been a staple of our fuel diet for a long time in Huskerland. My 95 Chevy pickup has never had anything else in it and has 215K on it with the same fuel pump. I have changed the fuel filter on occasion but do that as regular maintenance anyway. So far it has never left me stranded. Now Soy biodeisel fuel is another matter. I have limped home twice after using it in my Duramax. It plugged my filters both times. When I have the flatbed 5th wheel loaded and I am creeping along at 15 to 20 mph while trying not to get run over due to the fuel, I decide I better not use it anymore.

Tommy it is an age old question, I have gone to the Jewelry well so many times I have been told no more. Gift certificates at her favorite store is always safe and smart. My wife turns 50 next April and I am already thinking about that. Went to a Corvette only show in Lincoln yesterday. I took the 90 in but did not enter the show. Some real nice C5's and 6's on display. Not many 1's or 2's to be seen and only about 5 or 6 C4's. I had some nice talks with several owners and spread the Guru word around. Then went to the book store for awhile and had a nice cruise home. Got some weird noise coming from the alternater or the air pump that I need to take care of. Hope you all have a profitable week, try and spread some encouragement around, it's a commodity that's in short supply.

I bought Kumho's Ecsta ASX a year ago for my 90. They had a decent tire rack rating and after 5K miles they look great. They are quiet and don't wander much on rough pavement. They are more of an all season tire not just a summer tire. I bought locally and paid $135 per tire.

Jeez Tommy, I'm thinking you were glad to be able to wake up. Tornado country up here but even though they can do incredable damage it is usually in a fairly small area compared to a hurricane.

There is a lot of Guru info out on what tires are best. A lot will depend on what you are going to do with them. If you are going to race you will need something that will wear faster. If you are using the car for cruising like I do then that opens up a lot more options. I would wait to buy till you need them. What works on my 90 or your Dad's Vette would probably not be good on your ZO6.
