9.96 @ 140.11 is that a good time?
I have seen drag racing but unsure of the expectations of a 1/4 mile and time. Road course racing seems more challenging.

Yes!! 9.96 is a great time, especially if this is a full bodied 55 Chevy! Any pictures of it?

Josh, thanks for posting this. Great information.

I've noticed that my rear squats quite a bit. Before welding up my exhaust, it had C clamps that hung down about 3" off the ground. I've had folks tell me, from following, that when mashing the loud pedal, these C clamps were sparking or contacting the road. That is a lot of rear squat. I follow what you are saying and it makes sense. Would the .5 positive camber be enough for my application? I know things will vary from car to car, but I'm just trying to figure out how much of a difference .5 would make. I've thought about coil overs, but if this would do the same thing, this would be the way to go.

Thanks again Josh! Great thread...

From your trap speed, I think our cars have very similar power output, but I still don't think mine hooks as well as yours. This could also be that you are a better driver. Any other tips for setting up the rear? Can you link the write-up that you did? I'd love to read it. How does those tires do on the street?

I don't shock the drivetrain when driving for fear of breaking things. WOW, breaking everything on a near stock motor? Did you shock the drivetrain in the past?

Did you know that a golfcourse's insurance will pay for carts that are rolled over? Ask me how I know.

You guys have me laughing so hard I'm crying!

They also have to use a tractor to pull them out of ditches, when a cart decides on it's own to go barreling backwards into a drainage ditch full of water...

Not necessarily... I'd use whatever is recommended for your application. Too much octane can make the motor run as inefficient as too little. Octane is only an anti knock agent. Too much = bad, too little = bad.

Agreed.
But, I've run 89 in my 92 for 5 years w/o a problem (and at high altitude), the ECM just kicks the timing back a tad.
I don't really care if I loose or gain 10 HP on the street.

Yep, running too much or little (+- 5 points) octane usually will not hurt anything, the motor just isn't as efficient.

What is factory recommended octane for a stock L98, LT1, LT4, or LT5??

I also do not like E-10. NASTY stuff. If you don't believe me, drain the tank on your lawn mower in a few months, fill it up with E10 and run it for about 5 minutes. Then store in a shed or a cool basement all winter. Good luck getting it to run well next season!! Thanks to Stable and Seafoam to stabilize the fuel!!!!

Lucky for me, there are a few places that I can get 93, E-0 around the area, but it is expensive.

Great times!! How in the world is that hooking on street tires? I cannot get mine to hook at all, unless on drag radials or slicks. Have you done anything to keep that beast on the ground?

If the N2O system is progressive, your rear should hold, but you are pushing it...

The red C4 is owned by a guy that shows up on the other forum from time to time. I got to talk with him for some time during the show. He is a nice guy who was a joy to meet...

Anyway, it is a rare color combination car, that is in very, very nice shape. He told me that he got to meet them at Eureka Springs several years ago. My guess is that they signed everything then, but just a guess. That car looked almost perfect in person. Very nice C4.

I got to attend the 1st Annual Corvette Show in St. Louis. The location was great, right under the Arch! Not many C2, 3, or 4's, but many 5 and 6's. Many states were present; MO, IL, TN, MS, TX, MD, and other's that I forgot. It turned out to be a very nice show!

I got to ride with a friend in his C6, so I had a very nice, relaxing day...

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

No, although I hope to hear from them and meet up along the way. Let me know if you are heading down. A buddy from work has a nice C6 that I'm going to ride with. His car is very nice and is a bit more civil to travel in than the yellow bomb...

It is the 1st show, so who knows how good the turnout will be. Either way, it'll be fun and I'll get some pictures.

Everything is going great Dale. It's been a busy summer moving across town, but everything is about back to normal.

Anyone going? I'm riding with a friend of mine and was just curious if there will be any other guru's.

If anyone is interested in a link to the event, PM me and I'll send you the link.

I'm scared to post links to anything anymore after the new cases being tried.....

This is in St. Louis, MO.

No, I didn't take it as snippy, just like the information. Well, I won't worry about indexing them... I will try the 7's and see if that makes a difference. Worth a try, about $20 and an hour of time, so if it doesn't work, I'm not out much.

Glad you got it worked out! So you were using c-clamps and not band clamps? I wonder if that would have made a difference. I personally have c-clamps on mine with no issues, but would prefer band clamps.

Had both. Band clamps connected tube from the collector to the X tube and X tube to tube that connected to the cats. The PE mufflers connect with bolts, so no slipping there. There were leaks from the band clamps and C clamps, but the C clamps were leaking worse.

Andrew, was this the clamp connection after the catalyst on the passenger side?

Yes. My setup is LT headers into an X pipe, into 2 high flow cats, back to PE exhaust. The C clamps connected the in and out sections of both cats. I think this was the main reason for the popping. The only part not welded any longer is the connection to the collectors.

If you look close, you can see the old C clamps hanging in front of the rear tire.

Also at WOT, the car would squat and rub the ends, creating sparks. The would also drag easy, so it was no wonder the pipes would move or shift.

Thanks for the great comments!

Matatk, I've read the NGK link, but thank you for the others. I've added them to my favorites folder. Great info!

Rklessdriver, also great info. I do not run N2O with these plugs, but do go with the TR6. Last time I tried this, I had to replace pretty quickly. I have not tried the TR7's. I'll need to give it a try. Also, are you sure it's a waste of time indexing? I don't obsess about getting them perfect; just try to make sure they are 75% pointed in the right direction.

Again, great info and keep it coming!

I have not used N2O for a long time. Without N2O and using street tires, it spins more than I would like, so N2O would be power than cannot be planted.

These plugs have about 2k miles on them. I usually change out much earlier, just wanted to get a better read on the plug. I'd like to keep it on the rich side, but it may be too rich, just wanting to see what ya'll think.

By the way, have you decided on your new motor platform? I'm about as excited as you about the build!!

For some time my car has been popping on deceleration and I figured it was an exhaust or manifold leak. After getting under the car and looking around, at every connection, there was soot, where I could see that was drawing or allowing air to move in strange ways and cause the popping. After trashing the clamps and welding up the seams, no more pops, well, not near as much. It still gurgles and pops after a spirited burst, but while driving around town, not nearly as much. Below is a poor quality clip, without popping!

So my learning experience of the day, don't clamp exhaust.

I have thought for some time that the tune on my car is a bit fat, but before going through the trouble of starting to change out injectors and tune, wanted to get you read on the spark plugs. I took a picture of one plug. What do you think?

A local buddy of mine just picked up a very nice, needing no work, 03 Z06 with just over 60k miles for $15.5. There are great deals on these cars out there. This is also what is driving down the prices on C4's.

Tommy, are you saying the car is worth mid 30's?? I may be reading your post wrong. I got high retail of $26k with trade in at $12k on KBB.

This doesn't sound like a mid 30k car. At that price, pick up a low mile C6, put a supercharger on it, save some coin, and blow by that Z.

Book says, in that condition, $13 - $17k. I agree with Tommy, pass. Great car, but sounds a bit abused.

My Melrose headers have a stamp. If I remember right, it's down by the collector. I'll get a picture if I can. Those don't look like Melrose.

Thanks for the pictures. Hmmm, I think this is my problem. I don't believe this was ever on my car, or at least since I purchased it.

Was this brace on the 96 C4's? If so, where can I get the brace and bolts?

Do you have any pictures of what you are describing? The accessories have been off my car so many times that this is probably the same issue you had.

That 85 may have looked bad in person. I got to attend one of these auctions this spring and had a ball. I can tell you that some of them look much, MUCH better on TV than in person. This 85 could be one of these.

90% sure it is the battery. I fought this very thing about a year and a half ago.

My suspicion was that the battery was going out. Pulled the 2 year old battery, had it tested, and it passed. After that rebuilt the starter and cell, but the problem did not go away. Pulled the battery for a 2nd time, took to another parts store and the battery passed again. Put the battery back into the car and same problem. Now I was frustrated, so I took the car to yet another parts store. Pulled the battery in the parking lot, they tested it, and it passed. Took the store manager out, hooked the battery up to the terminals, and click, click, start. I wasn't about to go through this again, so I just told him I want a new battery. Installed the new battery and have never had another issue. Ok, enough rambling. I'm till angry about that fiasco!!

Just sharing in case you start down the same road.

Lockheed SR-71 - Blackbird. Gotta love something that can go over Mach 3.2 and originally required 2 Buick Wildcat V-8's to start each motor!!

If the leads to and from the starter are in good shape, Bogus, I agree. Rebuild the starter yourself. It isn't very hard and is very cheap. Either way, safe insurance.

Just a thought, when my battery isn't very fresh, my car will not start. I have to replace batteries every couple of years. Mine pulls current to the electric windows, radio, HVAC fan, water pump, line lock module, nitrous to and purge module, fuel pump, FJO progressive controller, and MSD box. If the battery isn't fresh, it quickly drains and will not push enough juice to crank the car. I don't know how many electronics you have that can pull current before you start the car, but if all else fails, check the battery.

Let us know when you find the problem so we can all learn!!

315 Yokahama AVS Sport. They wear good, not much road noise, very smooth tire, but traction is a problem. If the car is stock, great tire, but for modified cars, you will find the tire limits quickly. They are also expensive.. $$$

I still owe you a ride in the flyn' nana. I'd probably disappoint; I'm an old granny on the road . )

Hey, I know Rome, NY fairly well. The Moose lodge has great food. Back when I was with a drum and bugle corp out of Madison, WI, we would stay and perform in Rome, about 1x per year. If I remember right, is there a small university or some kind of boys camp with dorms??

Congrats Curtis! Good companies are hard to come by and it sounds like you made the right move.

Unfortunately, mid MO will be without a very nice C3, but most of all, losing a kind hearted, fun guy to be around. You need to schedule time back around some shows!

Here is one from today. Car is a bit dirty though.

Also, pictures do not do Curtis' car justice. I've tried everything to capture the true color and have not had success. It is a wild color in person.

I had a great time. They do need a few more activities during the event. I wish I would have been able to stay for the autocross. Don't worry they weren't the only one's overserved.
