I REALLY REALLY want a t-bucket.... There isn't alot of information on the net at least not that I can find. So if anyone knows of a good site for information that would be helpful. Personal experience would be even better.

1. How much do they weigh with a sbc and an automatic ?
2. With question # 1 in mind how much power would one need to go mid 10s or better ? If I'm gonna BUILD a hotrod I want it to be FAST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. It seems these things are built with more WOW factor in mind with multiple carbs, some with twin superchargers and blah blah I'm thinking a 450chp single carbed s.b.c. would be plenty with a 3.73 rear gear and a 700R4. The plan is to build my own from a basic kit. No ridiculous amounts of chrome, no candy show paint job I want to drive the mess out of it. Thoughts ?

Have you ever driven one or just looked at them? I think you wouldn't be as enthusiastic if you drove one. If you want to go fast that's nice but it's better with a car that can handle and corner. If you just want to chirp at lights and fly down long straights a T- Bucket might just be for you. We didn't have a T but we had a 36 Dodge coupe, mustang front end and a 350 chevy V8. Drove like a truck.

I rode in one !! Does that count ? I am done throwing money at my C4 I want a car that looks badass and will absolutely frighten me when I jump on the loud pedal. I'm keeping my Corvette but other than maintenance stuff there's nothing more I want to do to it. Time for a HOTROD !! I have the orginal LT1 from my 93, that would make a neat engine for a bucket with a good heads and cam swap first lol

It's cheaper to buy one and rebuild it to what you want than build new.
You have to do ypur home work either way. Get the magazines. The Chev dealership parts dept. here hands out a free magazine with nothing but hotrod stuff. There's hundreds of companys making stuff.
Go to www.hotrods.com

Get an issue of Popular Hotrod and order every catalog in it.

A friend of mine bought a wrecked Highway Patrol mustang for $850. He used the front suspension, motor/trans, rear, a/c and seats to build a 32.

Google hot rod parts, you'll get 962,000 hits

Do you have the equipment to do a build (mig/tig, metal saw, etc)?

I want to build a T Bucket from a kit OR buy a running driving very basic t bucket. I can't stand most of them though, they are either waaaay over the top and expensive or $10K to 12K and junk anyways. I have adequate room and a decent enough skill set, paint and bodywork not a problem. Building a frame now that would be a problem. Anybody here build a Total Performace kit or a Speedway kit etc ?

I used to do paint and bodywork for a living and the only thing I ever farmed out on my C4 was the ring and pinion set up so I think I can handle it.

JD, I was playin' here, interesting:
http://macogans.com/
They have some neat rooling packages and frame packages with suspension, etc.

I think you'll have to get on the hotrod forums to get good info, better than us Vette guys.

Well, I wanted to look at the Total kit, looks like they shut down.
But I did find a T bucket forum.

You are best off if you can find an old car from the 1920s that has a good title.

Otherwise, you run into problems getting it registered.

It will be worth it to find the rusted hulk... as long as it has paper.

Hell, just finding the paper is enough!

This would be a good week-end for you to visit Pidgeon Forge, Tenn as the "Shade's of the Past" rod run will be there. I was there several years ago and there were lots of T-bucket's and IIRC some vendors.

I still remember this stovebolt powered T from SoCal

I like the flathead powered ones.

A friend still has an old Lincoln V12 flatty he's been saving.

I talked with a truck driver that delivers to us. He has two 1923 T-buckets. The weight was around 1700#. He said "It is easier to buy one already done, and make changes from there. It depends on the amount of time and money."

This seems to be the general consensus. This will take some time though, I do not want to pay for a bunch of stuff I don't want, multiple carbs, goofy chrome everything nor do I want to buy a hacked together beater. I'm trying to do my homeowrk, looks like a 27 T is more what I want. It's gotta have a roof and at least one functional door. I wanna drive the thing, not watch the weather report etc.

Both of the '23's are very basic. They are set up very different from each other though. I enjoy talking about cars with him, because it doesn't matter which one your talking about.

Same thing with buying vs building a racecar, depreciation on all the expensive addons adds disc brakes, etc. adds up quickly.

If you can find a T with one of the good frames, suspension, body & rearend, it would probably be less expensive to buy it and throw off the stuff you don't want.

But, putting together brand new parts thet you don't need to clean & restore is a lot of fun too.

Cancel that last post! I tried to edit but can't.

It was an add in the atlanta craigslist for T-Bucket frame building instructions. Sorry

Andy is right about paper!! I built from the ground up a 55 Chev/ 572 cu.in blah, blah...Anyway frame has been modified/no numbers/ 3 different bodies no VIN..In Indiana its time consuming to get registered and plates. It ends up being 2009-55chevy////it would have saved a lot of time and inspectons if I had the vins and paper work!!

John--building your own HotRod is an unbelieveable satisfying experience. It will take your skills to the max. My 55 chevy project took 6 years.. It is better then any drug..The 55 is an absolute beast!! Once you think your done, you find something else to modify or change. If this is what you want! do it! you only go around once.. Ron
