The cut filter lid is a leaf magnet every time I leave the hood open. The piece of 1/4" hardware cloth also gives it a finished appearance IMHO.

Thanks. Alum. pop rivets w/washers from the inside. The hole is slightly countersunk then peen the rivet over on the outside. Gives it a clean look. Wife said do not paint.

The galvanized cloth holds up pretty well.
If you have a problem with humidity, you can also get the cloth in stainless steel from the race shops.

That looks real nice! You gave me a good idea on a winter project coming up. What did you use to cut the center out? Did you use those aviation snips or a cutting wheel?

When I cut mine, I tried a dremel, sawzall, and tin snips. Snips worked the best as far as cutting, but left a slightly abrasive edge that needs to be cleaned up a bit.

What Matt said. I bought mine that way. Didn't want to mess up the O.E. It's soft alum. Hacksaw and file would work too. Hey Spec.R. Smarty pants. My wife sees this, I'm supposed to be on rations.
