Good Morning CGs!

Well, it should be another sunny but cool day today. Yesterday was full for us. My wife and I took the baby down the the riverwalk park not too far from our house in the morning. We were there from about 10-1, ate lunch there, enjoyed the weather. When I got home I fixed the weed whacker and cut the grass. After that I extended her garden by digging out another 3 ft x 12 ft section. Ugh. That beat me up. Then we had some dinner, she dropped the rugrat off at her mom's, and then we watched a little tv. Full day. The reason she dropped off Sam is so her dad would watch her today. Trans guy called yesterday at 2:15....trans is done!!! So I'll be picking that up shortly. I'm borrowing a trans jack to make the install go a little more smoothly and hopefully everything should be in and good to go. I did a little cleaning on the engine bay yesterday, but not too much because I had a headache. Can't wait to get it back in!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Another beautiful day in Northern Indiana. High near 70. Kids are motivated today need to get projects done for a grade. The reality of leaving here has hit the seniors as they pick-up their cap and gown this morning. Four more seniors have decided to go the military route! Total of 13 for Wood Shop. Total for the school 37. Have a great day!!!

Snow - wtf? Ick! 75-ish here today, getting spoiled. I was going to quick wash the Vette before going to a wake yesterday, but decided to take a nap instead. Good choice, methinks. The car will still be dirty whenever I get around to washing it. Maybe today.

Morning, didn't get out of the 50's yesterday...supposed to be 68 today. It's got a ways to go to get there, dreary, cloudy and cool right now.

I was so tired after getting home yesterday, I wanted to take a nap, but instead I went out to the shop and got the drawers mounted and finished up. I just have to make 3 slide-out trays and get them mounted and I can deliver these later this week.

I have only 2 kids left in this first hour class this morning, track meet has taken the rest. And the ones left have absolutely no motivation.

Hope you all have a great day.

Yesterday was power wash the driveway day. Our driveway is over 300 ft long, but just the first 75 ft are concrete, but also wide. I got about half done yesterday. Raining today, so a good day to change the oil in the Vette. It is now up to a little over 222,000 miles and I change it every 4,000 with Mobile One and a quart of Lucas. It comes out fairly clean and I could probabbly go longer between changes, but oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild. Hope everyone has a good day.

We had 2 new front windows put in yesterday. Bigguns. As they were being installed it looked as if there was a pretty sizable airgap around them. I questioned the installer and he gave me a long BS about why it's like that, and he's been doing this for 40 years, yada,yada,yada...

I disagree. I was nice about it, but would not pay the balance and told him that when I'm satisfied, there'll be no problem paying up. My reasons being the the 1"-2"airgap around the window, and him subsequently telling me that if he had ordered them too big, and they didn't fit, he has to pay for the window. Call me crazy, but to me that adds up to a man covering his butt.

So today the BOSS comes out and I tell him I have a problem with the fit of the windows. He then sez they should only have 1/8" around them. I inform him of the actual gap size, and what the installer said. The color ran out of his face as much like a good swift kick to the nutts. I'm pretty sure he knows this is gonna need some action/solution on his part.

I know that windows, like other house components, don't have a perfect fit. But they should have a proper fit.
that's what I got for today. That and an angry spouse.

Greetings, Gurus!

Well, I got up early today to take my mom to day surgery - she's having a cataract taken care of, and on my way home, I had a hot chocolate accident. I was getting out of the Jeepers, and the cup was stuck/angled in funny, not sure, anyhow, I ended up smooshing the top of the cup, the lid comes off, hot chocolate spilling onto the center console and passenger seat, and I can't let go, cuz otherwise the whole 20oz would be everywhere. I'm also wearing gloves, so it's now getting soaked with HOT chocolate. My other hand, also wearing a glove, already has mine and my mom's purse in it, and so I need to drop those, almost in the street, as I manoeuver the HOT chocolate out of my other hand safely back into the cup holder. It doesn't sound like much, but I think I've scalded my left palm cuz it's still tender almost 2 hours later.

In other news, there was no turkey baloney last night, but rather a nicely slow simmered homemade red sauce made with ground turkey, Vidalia onion, Penzey's garlic and various Italian herbs, and a touch of cabernet sauvignon, served over Dreamfields penne and topped with shredded parmesan (not the green can).

OH, just got the call, my mom's ready for pick up. Didn't think she'd be done so soon!

That's such BS,Bob. Three years ago I did all my windows and doors myself including 2, 5ftx5ft ones upstairs. All were custom sized and I wanted them thicker to put foamboard insulation on the outside.

I went to a large shop intown. The sales guy came to the house and gave me a rough estimate. athen he sent a foreman out who spent 2 hours measuring and giving me installation tips. The delivery guy carried the upstairs windows up for me. A week later the foremen was measuring another house close by and stopped to see how it was going. And the sales guy called a month later to see if I was satisfied. Yea, I use these guys again.

And yea, 1/8-1/4 gap all around.

Hope you kick their ass.

Bob those window guys ordered the wrong window dimensions and are trying to make them work. Don't let them get away with it!!! It might be fine for a year or two but over the long haul they will begin to fail. If they are double hung or casments the overall fit will lose their tight seal. Building codes in our area have a specific dimension Rough Opening no larger than 1/2 " then window units. Seals and caulk make up the difference. Maintains R factor and resistence to wind and air infiltration. I hear that statement all the time"Ive been doing this since forever"!!! Yea they have been doing it wrong forever!!!

Tamiza - that sounds like an ouchy! I recommend putting large amounts of aquaphor on the burn. It's medicated vaseline you can get at walgreen's, cvs, etc. Works great on burns, sores and cuts.

My trans is in and it kicked my butt today! I'll post up some experiences with it later. Time to go work out.

Oh, that and the sprinkler guy just left. Gave me an estimate. 1800 for the front yard, 2600 for front and back. Told the wife she could have sprinklers since I got a motor. Price seems pretty good to me. The same guy did my FIL's house 4 years ago and was very professional and did a good job. Looks like I'm getting sprinklers!

In Florida there is a green approach to watering the lawn. It's called rain. We get plenty of it in the summertime.

Well, my hand seems to be doing okay.

My foolproof method for preventing burns from blistering and harming the skin is to use wet tea leaves or a wet black tea bag. I learned in 9th grade honors biology that the tannins will help prevent any bad reactions. Some say that it's not true, but in all my time of cooking at home and professionally, when I used used the wet tea leaves, I've not gotten a severe reaction and healed quickly.

Also, didn't make the chicken/sausage with wine sauce. I didn't like the wine, and I won't cook with wine that I wouldn't drink.

We actually rain today! Not quite like Tommy's there, but rain sure enough!
