Ok, that is the stupidest thing I've ever heard anyone say, intentionally. Sure G. W. Bush came up with some real stupid stuff, but most of it was just stumbling, the kind of dumb stuff we all say on occassion, a mistake.

Ms. Pelosi meant every word of that. How or why that didn't get turned into a media spectacle is approaching criminal. Ok, that's the preamble.

Now, for your viewing pleasure, finding out what's in it:

http://money.cnn.com/2010/05/05/small ... h_care_tax_change/?hpt=C2

It appears that in an effort to collect more taxes to pay for the healthcare bill, in 2012 a 1099 will be required for just about any transaction a business makes.

My tax guy told me to enjoy the present in taxland because it's going to change and it won't be for the better. I think a new ZO6 for a company car will make a nice deduction.

There's an app for that.

My wife may want to retire sooner rather than later. We have an accountant. Looks like her job will get harder while our monthly accounting expenses will go higher. Big Government sucks.

We've got almost 3 generations of public school educated people who think socialism is a good thing. Even though it's never worked anywhere it's been tried, they think it's good.

Me too.

It's a shame people with libertarian ideals are misrepresented as being part of the extremist right-wing lunatic fringe.

The bills they pass are on the same level as what the doctor asks for.

here is my problem... no, I am not a socialist, and no, socialism won't work in the USA, either...

In Europe, it does work for many nations for one reason - they don't have the defense budgets. It's that simple.

Greece? Half their economy is under the table and black market...

However, back to my problem. Health care, if we weren't careful, was going to lead our economy into a black pit.

Health care costs were the #1 tipping point in bringing down the US automakers last year. The debt caused by those costs was astronomical.

What people don't realise is that a moderately good health system, available to all, will LOWER costs.

Case in point: My late-brothers' brother in law. White male, 50, smoker, seasonal construction worker (concrete). Joe gets some form of lymphoma in his neck. It was diagnosed as stage 3 or 4, I don't remember. NO HEALTH INSURANCE. So he applies to the state for aide... which they grant... One person with advanced cancer cost the state several hundred thousand dollars to heal (he is ok now). If Joe had some form of insurance, perhaps he would have visited a doctor 2 years earlier, when a simple outpatience procedure would have fixed it. A little treatment and the entire bill is $50k. Not $300k+.

The final two parts of the health care problem are drug costs - European nations don't get raped like we do for the same drug - and legal issues, meaning, lawsuits.

I know it costs a lot to bring a new drug to market, no question, but damnit all to hell, why must we eat all the advertising expenses? That's where it's getting expensive.

Personally, any healthcare fix should have included banning ads of prescription drugs on TV... besides, I don't want to see 2 old folks laying naked in bathtubs looking over a valley (WTF is the metaphor there?) or hear about someones pipes leaking... ugh...

You touch on one of the many problems of the "healthcare" bill. Lawsuits drive doctors out of business, they drive up costs due to doctors practicing defensive medicine. Drugs cost more due to lawsuits for any problems, and on and on. So, you'd think some form of tort reform was in order? Never even mentioned. A huge potential cost savings wasn't even considered.

Some argue that a huge reform had to be crammed through, there was no other way. That's stupid. What about incremental reform? What was the rush? Much of what's going to happen to us, happens in 2012 and beyond. The 2500 page bill could have been broken up into bite size, digestible pieces. Did the government really need to take over the student loan program as part of healthcare reform?

And honestly, how can a legislative body pass a bill they didn't read?! Even Ms. Pelosi didn't know what was in the bill! That's very much like going to a dealer, telling them you want a car and having them say: "You have to buy it before we can show it to you." You don't know if it's an ATV, motorcycle, Corvette, truck or a tank, but you have to buy it to see what you're getting. Pure insanity.

The ads don't cost near as much as the lawsuits but I'd like to see them go away too.

And the "I need a new Ferrari" mentality of the lawyers affects doctor & hospital costs just as much.
Ban the lawyer ads too.

I looked at a prescription cost once- Here, $300, Canada, $150, Elsewhere, $100 for the same damn drug.

Saw an ad on tv the other day. It listed 20 pills including Tylanol. Call us if you take any of these, you may be entitled to a large cash settlement. F__kin' Lawyers.

Why buy a house now? I bought two years ago at what we thought was a GREAT price. We are down $35K right now.

sometimes I wish I would have stayed renting.
