I've been busy and so hadn't given it a thought before now. But I turned on the TV and ran across it. I see Montoya's running third. That's about all I've got for now.
This race always begins the countdown to the Daytona 500 for me. I know there are many who turn their noses up at Nascar. And although I appreciate any and all serious forms of racing, to me nothing compares to Nascar on the major league level.
All of that aside, I'm more than ready for racing to resume.

I caught a bit of it, Castro-Nieves had a blown front tire and lost his front clip. Nothing against NASCAR, just not my cup of tea..........but....... it's a result of good marketing when you can get millions of viewers to watch cars going round in a circle, ala WWF wrestling, Extreme fighting.

Joey Hand's leading right now. I raced karts against Joey when he was on the Emmick factory team out of Sacramento. Also, crewed on his Formula Mazda for a couple of races about 12 years ago. Good Guy.

Sorry, Im one of those nose thumbers at Nascar. Tony Stewart was right when he said it is like professional wrestling.
I did like Nascar up thru the early 80's when the manufactures were involved.

They are impressive to drive though, at least horsepower wise. I did some laps in Harry Gant's Skoal Bandit, 1990 road course car last summer.

So what? I'm still scraping by with my antique, $250 27" TV. With my eyesight anymore, HD would be as casting pearls before swine!

I prefer the ALMS... but that's just me.

I am watching... but the numbnuts at KTLA (Fox 11) here in LA, decided to tape delay the broadcast of the start of the race from the scheduled 10am to 2pm. This means that anyone watching the start will be doing so whilst the rest of the race is showing live on Speed. What am I missing here? Oh, they did this, apparently, so they wouldn't have to preempt Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... God forbid...

Tires used: 84
Fuel used: 367 gal.
Gearshifts: 17,368 including upshifts & downshifts
Cases of Red Bull: 30

These guys due have one luxury, Daytona's all lit up. It makes for better tv watching but it wasn't too many years ago that they were driving with the track totally dark. That makes it much harder.

I agree with Bogus about ALMS, but then GrandAm's in bed with Nascar, that's why the prototypes all look alike.

Yeah, Nascar is exciting to watch, usually. I can appreciate the other motorsports more, but until they learn how to put the level of money and attention into televising them like they do nascar, they're hard to watch.

Rally racing for example, is unbelievably exciting. In-car views on open wheel road racing gets my blood pumping, yet the broadcasts are so terrible to watch.

I remember watching 24 of daytona (last year?) when Tony stewart was nursing it to the end with broken suspension, one of the closer races in recent history, but the broadcast was so damn boring.

I've been watching all day...

Although I'm more into the Koni challenge cars, which ran yesterday but won't be televised until next Saturday night. The Spectator 2 Corvette was purchased from one of the teams (Rehegan racing, running 4 Mustangs). They were 1 - 2 for 20 laps late in the race but lost a few spots on a pit stop and finished 5 - 10.

I love rally, and was pretty upset last year when Speed decided they didn't need to show WRC. Lame-o. And no one is showing it on TV that I can find, so I live vicariously through the news I get in my inbox.

I was a big fan for years, but I'm getting less and less interested as the cars go farther and farther away from their street car counterparts. It's becoming NASCAR on road courses. The CTS-V's, while incredible cars, share about as much with the street version as a NASCAR Toyota Camry does.

I'll still watch as it's one of the few series that still has Corvettes, but with LG gone I'm not sure who to root for. ALMS GT2 might be interesting this year with the huge increase in entries (including Corvette, of course), we'll see.

Having done a bit of racing on an amateur level, I can't even imagine the intensity level of doing that stuff for hours on end. Hell, I was young, strong and in shape back when I raced a dirt track stock car. And sometimes after just a 15 to 25 lap feature race, I'd hardly have the arm strength left to pull myself out of the car! Those guys are bad to the bone.

Depends on what you're driving. 25 laps on dirt in almost any class will bust your butt. A 1/2 hour sprint race in a formula car is exhausting mostly because of the G forces. The daytona prototypes will do it too.

I've done some endurance. Did the 25hours of ThunderHill in a Miatia. The driver shifts were 1 1/2 hours and it wasn't bad at all except at 3:00 a.m. when you're a little goofy from lack of sleep.

I have had some luck with Speed at hotels on the interstate. I have bitched to Marriott about adding Speed... maybe they will.

Back in 2003, I went down to Sebring for the 12 hours... my plan was to go to the Amelia Island Concourse, but that was blown up by crappy weather.

However, on Sat night, I had driven down to Brunswick GA and stayed at a Days Inn... they had good local cable - some 70 channels. And one was Speed.

I have found Days Inn and Best Westerns to have the best cable options... but to be honest, my exposure is the I-95 corridor from Delaware to FL, so once I found a hotel with good cable, it was stashed in the old brain pan for future scheduling.
